Dirtbags Black Rivero Wins a Close One (13U)

The Dirtbags came out of the weekend as champions with a triumph against Az643 Baseball 2-0.  With a low-scoring game, the Dirtbags only had one hit and scored both their runs in the top half of the game. Shutting down the Az643 Baseball was Kiki Whitney who pitched six innings, striking out six and allowing one hit and two walks. As for the offense, Michael Fikes led the way for his team in the final game, going 1-2, and holding a .467 batting average through five games. After placing fourth in their last tournament, it was a satisfying ending for the Dirtbags.

One National 2028 Stands Tall, Wins High Scoring Affair (14U)

The One National 2028 took the 14U tournament championship title in an exciting one-run game against the Fs21 Stars, ending in a 16-15 ballgame. With a jump start, the offense scored five runs in the first, one in the second, and another five in the third. Scoring the other five in the bottom half of the game with 14 hits compared to the Stars eight. The top batters were Ben Jacobus, Christian (CJ) Estrella, Weston Bundy, Jameson Mohler, Jacob Martinez, Easton Vesely, and Camden Pallas. Pallas was the best in the box, going 4-5 with a double and a run. He ended with a .778 average in the last four games. While the offense made this a close game, a couple of arms still showed some success. Jacob Martinez went three innings, giving up three runs but struck out four and Liam Becher pitched only one inning, giving up two hits, no runs, and struck out one. While it was a nerve-racking game, it was a picture-perfect final battle on the holiday.

AZ T-Rex 2027 Blue Goes Undefeated on the Weekend (15U)

The AZ T-Rex 2027 Blue baseball team celebrated the holiday with a victory over Canes West AZ in the finals 6-2. The bats scored four runs starting in the first, and again in both the second and third, they finished off their offensive showing by scoring one in each inning. Ending with eight hits on the day as a team, Anthony Renda took the ropes with a double and one run scored, going 1-1 and a .750 average through six games. Logan Lewis and Trenton Pater batted strongly behind Renda, and both went 1-2 in the game. Masson Meyers and Erik Moo held the Canes to four hits and two runs. Meyers pitched most of the game as he threw five innings, giving up four hits and three walks and striking out four batters. Moo closed it with no hits and two walks in two innings. With a 6-0 overall record, the future is bright for T-Rex as they continue to compete in 2024.

Fs21 Stars 2026 Takes Title in Four Innings (16U)

With a roaring score of 12-0, the Fs21 Stars walked out of Goodyear, Arizona winners as they defeated Trosky Arizona 2026 Regional in just four innings. The offense rallied ten hits with multiple successful performances from the lineup, including Connor Russell, Justice Yanke, Kayden Henson, Cody Cappelletti, Jaxen Maxey, Ethan Trahan, and Dylan Lopez. They had eight players with at least one run batted in. Lopez had a star performance ending the game 1-2 with one double and one run scored, but also hit .344 through five games of play. Putting up zeros on the board on the other side was St. Mary’s commit Cody Cappelletti; he was on the mound for four innings with four hits, zero runs, and four strikeouts. Working consistently with an 87-90 mph range with his fastball and 74 mph curveball. The future is bright for the Stars, with many top performers in this lineup.

One National 2025 Takes Another Title (17U)

In eight innings, the One National 2025 team beat the Canes West Scout team 6-5. One National had ten hits over the Cane's nine in a one-run differential. The team’s leading hitters were Alex Gamboa, Jet Berry, Ryker Waite, and Adolfo Pacheco. Pacheco ended with the most successful stat line, going 3-4 with one run scored, hitting .500 through three games. Additionally, Pacheco pitched three innings, allowing two hits, walks, and strikeouts. With the results of this tournament, One National now has placed 1st in two events back-to-back.

Bandits Complete Comeback, Head Home Champs (18U)

The Bandits head back to Idaho as champions of the 18U Memorial Day Classic, beating the Rijo Athletics Az in an 8-6 ballgame. With a slow offensive start in the beginning half of the game, as they were down 6-2, the Bandits could pull off a comeback, scoring six in the seventh to end on top. They outperform their opponent even with their seven hits compared to the Rijo Athletics 11. Easton Cannon went 2-5 with two runs scored and hit .438 through six games. Greyson Martin went 1-1 with one run and scored a hit .556 through his six games. Martian also succeeded on the mound, pitching the four innings in the finals, allowing four hits, one run, and one walk. Although top Idaho prospect Dax Whitney might not have thrown in the championship game, he left the field with an MVPitchers title in his age group.

PG Draft: Favorite Position Group

Tyler Henninger
Article Image
Every draft class has its strengths. Some years its a loaded group of prep infielders, some years its a deep collection of college arms. In this year’s class, certain position groups stand out above the rest to us. This week, the draft team dives into their favorite position groups. Groups that we believe are loaded with depth, upside, and big league potential. College Infielders It’s hard not to get excited about the crop of college infielders in this year’s class because of who is at the top. Roch Cholowsky alone makes the group exciting. He’s got gold glove potential at the next level and an offensive profile that should make him one of the Top 15 to 20 prospects in all of baseball the second he gets drafted. Justin Lebron is another player with as much upside in the class. He is a premium athlete that can really pick it at short and has big upside with the...

Wolforth Throwing Mentorship: Article 64

Ron Wolforth
Article Image
What Do Barry Zito, Justin Verlander, Trevor Bauer, and Dallas Keuchel All Have in Common? By Ron Wolforth | Texas Baseball Ranch® | PG Arm Care Take a second and think about the question posed in the title before you read on. Four Cy Young Award winners. Four of the most decorated pitchers of their generation. What's the common thread? The first answer is obvious… they all won the most prestigious individual award in pitching. Most of you probably got there immediately. The second answer is less obvious… they all trained at the Texas Baseball Ranch® at some point in their development. Interesting, maybe, but not the point of this article. The third answer is the one I really want you to sit with, because it has direct relevance to your career right now: they all move completely differently. And they all attack hitters completely differently. Don't rush past that....

Coming off a state-championship run in basketball, Texas signee Brody Bumila made his first start of the spring on April 2nd and didn't disappoint in front of at least 40 scouts packed tightly together behind the backstop.  Knowing it was going to be a quicker look given...

DII/DIII/NAIA Rankings Update: April 8

Nick Herfordt
Article Image
We are past the midpoint of the college baseball season and the stakes are rising by the week. Conference races are tightening, schedules are getting harder, and the résumés that will matter in the selection room are being written right now — one series at a time. This week's most significant development came in Division II, where North Greenville swept Young Harris in three consecutive one-run games to claim the top spot for the first time this season, knocking Tampa from a perch they've held most of the year. It's a genuine changing of the guard at the top, and it's exactly the kind of shakeup that makes this stretch of the season worth paying close attention to. Across all three divisions the picture is coming into focus. In Division I NAIA, Georgia Gwinnett remains the standard while Taylor and Cumberlands continue to make their cases from behind. In Division III,...

Iowa Spring League Notes: Week 1

Perfect Game Staff
Article Image
Brooks Mitchell-Birdsell (2027, Atkins, Iowa) was solid on both sides of the ball this weekend. He was able to show a clean move working into it, with the feel to impact it out in front and drive hard through contact. He had good barrel accuracy with feel to drive the ball well, especially working pull-side. He was 4-for-8 on the weekend with a double to his credit, driving in 7 runs as well. Mitchell-Birdsell also put together a good outing on the mound, delivering 2 innings of scoreless work with 3 punchouts. He worked the low 80s with some run, flashing a mid-70s curveball with good 11-5 shape and depth.  Maddux Mueller (2026, Amana, Iowa) LH bat with plenty to like in the batter’s box, and he put together a solid showing this weekend. He finished 2-for-3 with a double, demonstrating both contact ability and the capacity to drive the baseball for extra bases. Mueller...

College Players of the Week: April 7

Craig Cozart
Article Image
April 7th Perfect Game/Player of the Week:  Andrew Williamson, OF, UCF  The UCF Knights (20-9) are coming off one of their biggest series victories in years when they went to Morgantown and took down the Mountaineers to take control of the Big 12 regular season standings.  The offense put on quite the performance and Andrew Williamson set the tone by leaving the yard in his first at-bat of the weekend launching a towering home run over the centerfield wall.  The 6-0/195 lefty from St. Petersburg, FL has one of the sweetest strokes in the college game today and when he goes, so do the Knights.  In the 3-game series, the junior collected 6 hits in his 10 at-bats, scoring 6 runs, on 5 walks, a double and he launched 3 home runs all told.  While he had a stretch earlier in the season where he was searching for his stroke a bit, he is getting locked in at the...
