Regional Superlatives: NE & MA

Most Likely To Make a Huge Jump in the Rankings in 2023:

Zachary Konstantinovsky, RHP, North Brunswick, NJ
Konstantinovsky has been about as consistent as any amateur pitcher can be, as the durable right-hander pounds the zone effortlessly with an assortment of pitches that all play extremely well against any lineup. He absolutely dominated during the High School season, where he struck out an astounding one-hundred and twenty hitters and walked just two. The ability to throw quality strikes day-in and day-out with all the three pitches, while showing aptitude to spin the breaking ball for strikes and generating swings-and-misses with his changeup. The scary part is that the 2023 New Jersey native repeats so well with ease that he has not reached his velocity ceiling yet. With a couple added ticks on the fastball, look for Konstantinovsky to rise this spring.

Tristan Dietrich, LHP, Phoenixville, PA
Dietrich fits the mold of the long, lanky lefty that continues to add velocity, while making steady gains within the rankings. The Florida International commit showed off his newfound velocity this fall at the WWBA Worlds, as he worked steadily in the 87-89 mph range and hit 90 mph several times. He generates some angle from a repeatable delivery and landed his breaking ball for strikes. The projection remains quite vast, as his frame can stand to add some more strength. He completed his arsenal with a still developing changeup that garnered some whiffs. The Phoenixville, PA native could be this year’s fast rise from the Northeast, as he will be watched intently as he continues to add velocity. Expect him to continue his ascent up the rankings with the continued uptick in his stuff.

-Johnnie McAdams

Drew Smith, RHP, Auburn, ME
Though 276 is certainly no number to overlook, Smith has an opportunity to breakout over the course of 2023. In the limited workload we saw from the athletic 6-foot-3 210-pound righty this season, Smith was dominant with a FB up to 91 mph chucking from a high ¾ slot and overall effortless operation that got down the hill effectively. The frame has further room to fill out and add velocity and could be touching mid 90’s sooner rather than later. He has feel for spin in the arsenal and continues to develop the off-speed offerings. Lookout for the UConn commit to continue rising as we approach the Spring.

Most Likely To Hit .500 at PG Events in 2023:

Ryan Costello, 1B/OF, Howell, NJ
Costello continues to evolve as a hitter, as the left-handed hitting commit has amassed nearly one hundred the past two years in PG events. He has the ability to use the whole field with tremendous feel for the barrel and exceptional pitch recognition. His overall bat-to-ball skills standout, as the 2024 New Jersey native has only struck out nineteen times in over two hundred at-bats. Costello fits the bill when it comes to describing someone who may hit .500 during our events with just enough aggressiveness, his outstanding barrel awareness and a .433 career average in PG events.

Tyler Wiltsey, OF, Audubon, NJ
Wiltsey is another New Jersey native that continues to show off his hitting acumen, as the Rutgers commit hit .447 over the course of 2022. It is a simple, repeatable stroke from the right-side with no wasted movements and very little swing-and-miss to it. He recognizes spin well and has extreme feel for the barrel. Wiltsey just continues to get better each time out and fits the script so well when it comes to someone potentially hitting .500 this upcoming year.

-Johnnie McAdams

Owen Paino, SS, Poughkeepsie, NY
This should come as no surprise, but the #1 overall player in the state of NY for the class of 2024 and #8 nationally is a prime candidate to be on base, a lot. Paino, who works from an athletic and still projecting 6-foot-3 205-pound build starts from a wider balanced base at the dish with a higher compact hand set from the left side. The stroke is controlled yet powerful with lots of backspin production to the pull side, flashing plenty of bat speed through the zone with juice generated from the lower half and hips. Both contact and power tools are clearly present for the Ole Miss commit so expect the career .404 PG hitter to dominate once again heading into 2023.

Most Likely To Make a Velo Jump Into the Mid-90s in 2023:

Rodney Pena, RHP, Paterson, NJ
Pena has already been up to 93 mph in previous looks so a couple added ticks into the mid-90s is assuredly in the future. The athletic right-hander has plenty of present arm speed and will certainly add some more strength to his 6-foot, 190-pound frame. Minor refinements to his delivery and further usage of his lower half should unlock the next few ticks of velocity.

Chris Levonas, RHP, Holmdel, NJ
Levonas is the type of athlete that is only going to continue adding velocity as he physically matures and refines things mechanically. Already up to 92 mph with his fastball, the 2024 Wake Forest commit pairs it well with an abrupt two-plane breaker that has high spin metrics and bat missing qualities. It is electric arm speed with more in the tank as he adds strength and continues to develop. Look for the Holmdel, NJ native to bring that high octane arsenal to the forefront in 2023.

-Johnnie McAdams

Nicholas Bradley, RHP, Clarks Summit, PA
It’s not too often that you have a ‘26 grad in this conversation, but Bradley has electric arm speed simply put. The incoming Freshman has been up to 92 mph in 2022 with plenty of upside working from a nowhere near developed 6-foot-1 175-pound frame. Truly, it’s a matter of when as opposed to if for the righty who releases from a clean ¾ slot with advanced feel for spin in the arsenal for his age. He effectively sequences a sharp slider to play off the heat and is incorporating a CH into the mix as well, further separating him from other prospects in the 2026 class. Scary to think about what the future has in store for the #2 ranked ‘26 RHP in the nation.

Joe Nottingham, RHP, Windsor Mill, MD
After running his FB up to 91 mph at the Northeast Top Prospect Games, Nottingham could very well be in for another velocity jump with 2023 around the corner. Standing at 6-foot-5 200 pounds, the RHP still has tons of room to fill out and project in terms of velocity tossing from a loose and free arm stroke and ¾ slot. The operation for Nottingham incorporates the lower half well and pushes off with the backside, a further indicator that velo will continue to grow as strength is added in the legs. The FB has easy ride through the zone and gets on hitter’s hands quickly, making 90 mph already appear 92-93 mph even if he isn’t quite there yet. As the command and repertoire refines, Nottingham has likely not come close to touching his ceiling.

-AJ Denny

Most Likely To Back Up a Breakout in 2022:

Luke Dickerson, SS, Denville, NJ
Dickerson has a relatively short track record in terms of his participation in PG events but has shown plenty of intrigue in-terms of his overall hit tool and things to project on moving forward. The compact, strongly built right-hander keeps things simple and displays advanced barrel control regardless of pitch speed, type or location. He uses the entire field extremely well and finds the barrel often. Add-in the quick twitch athleticism and defensive chops that he has displayed, and you have someone primed to breakout in 2023.

-Johnnie McAdams

Mavrik Rizy, RHP, Fiskdale, MA
After jumping more than 100 spots in the rankings this season, Rizy is showing no signs of slowing down heading into 2023. The UConn RHP commit stands at a towering 6-foot-8 235 pounds on the bump, an intimidating sight for any opponent stepping into the box. Sitting low 90’s and topping out at 93 mph, Rizy has the potential to be a mid to upper 90’s arm in the future with the arm speed on display and ease to the operation. He controls the body and mechanics well and stays balanced over the rubber, mixing a hard short slider with horizontal tilt for consistent swing and miss. When the command is on, Rizy is virtually untouchable.

Chase Harlan, 3B, Doylestown, PA
Harlan rocketed up the rankings after posting a 97 mph exit velocity, 94 mph across the diamond, and a 6.79 sixty-yard dash at the 2022 Mid-Atlantic Prospect Showcase. Talk about an all-around prospect, Harlan really does excel in every aspect of the game with athleticism on display that few others possess. Everything that Harlan does is smooth both on the offensive and defensive ends, showcasing a reliable glove and active footwork with an obvious cannon to pair. He swings a lightning-fast bat at the dish and has power that translates in game, creating lift and extension with the ability to use the entire field.

Most Likely To Lead the Region in Home Runs in 2023:

AJ Gracia, OF/LHP, Monroe, NJ
Gracia wa sone of the state’s leaders in homeruns with twelve in 2022 and 2023 should be no different, as the left-handed hitting two-way star should have no issues repeating his effort. The 2023 Duke commit has a loose, lofted stroke with legitimate power to all fields. He has the propensity to find the barrel often and it would be no surprise to see him stake claim as the Home Run leader within the region come this spring.

-Johnnie McAdams

Jayden Stroman, SS, Medford, NY
Don’t be fooled by Stroman’s age, as the strong framed switch hitter has serious juice from gap to gap. This was made clear at the WWBA Northeast Workout Showcase when half of Stroman’s swings cleared the wall by a good 40 feet. Though his chance to leave the facility might be higher from the left side, Stroman is a threat to do damage in both boxes swinging a heavy barrel with natural loft. The power potential here is only going to continue increasing as the 6-foot 190-pound prospect matures.

Performance Baseball Rolls On

Kinley Kitchens
Article Image
Championship teams often reveal themselves when the game isn’t going their way. Performance Baseball 2028/Milwaukee Brewers Scout Team did exactly that. Trailing Florida Burn 2028 Scout through four innings, the Brewers refused to panic. Instead, they relied on timely hitting, consistent pitching, and an unselfish approach at the plate, rallying a five-run fifth inning before pulling away for a 9-5 victory to clinch their spot in the semifinals. The comeback was fueled by contributions throughout the lineup. Six different players drove in runs, including two RBIs each from Aiden Capobianco and Cameron Massey, while Matthew Heredia, Parker Weston, Ethan Smith, and Aj Bonnette each added an RBI of their own. On the mound, Derek Wenzel set the tone with 3.2 solid innings before Ethan Smith shut the door in relief, helping preserve the comeback victory. Although the Brewers have had a...

From the opening pitch, JK Select controlled the pace of the game. The offense jumped out early, scoring 6 runs in the 1st inning after timely hits from MVP Sean Shindo and Kade Manarpaac. Starting pitcher Maddox Prones turned in a strong performance, allowing 3 runs while striking out 5 batters over 3 innings. "Wow" Swings Catch Eyes at 16u Elite

Kinley Kitchens
Article Image
On the second day of the 2026 Perfect Game National Elite Championship, one swing turned heads across the ballpark. The next one brought everyone to a stop. With Wow Factor Nation 16U trailing midway through its matchup against Sandlot Scout Team 2028, Micheal O'Connor launched a solo home run to spark the offense. Just one batter later, Aaron Frink stepped into the box and sent another ball over the fence, delivering back-to-back home runs that quickly became one of the most talked about moments of the tournament’s opening days. Parents gathered along the nets, players from previous games stopped to watch, and college scouts turned their attention toward the action as the two towering swings energized the crowd and brought new life to the game. Although Wow Factor Nation ultimately lost 5-3 after a hard-fought performance, the back-to-back home runs served as a reminder of the...

Stacked Baseball was the overwhelming top team throughout the week as the WWBA Champions outscored opponents by an absurd 117-12 during their 11-0 run. “We got some talented kids, but we played against a little bit of Goliath over there,” Stacked Head Coach Mike...

The New York native and primary shortstop topped out at 93 with the fastball, sitting comfortable in the 90-92 range. Corona paired it with a sharp and tight slider at 81-83, staying on the same plane until late. The pitch plays well already and the delivery is very athletic. The uncommitted right-hander went three scoreless and was in the zone plenty, striking out two while not allowing a walk. Flames Natty used timely hitting and a dominant start from Beau Collier to defeat NLB American 7-3 and capture the 18U BCS National Championship on Monday at Lee Health Sports Complex. Despite being assembled just hours before the tournament began, the Flames quickly developed chemistry throughout the tournament. “This team was put together 12 hours before this tournament, and they went on a crazy run,” head coach Adam Vasquez said. “These kids know each other locally, but they don’t play together. For them to come together last minute like that, it’s crazy. I’m proud of them for that.” The game opened as a pitchers’ duel, with David Acevedo recording the lone hit through the first two innings. NLB American starter Hayden Graham kept the Flames in check early, allowing just one hit while striking out one over 2.0 innings. The right-hander...

Austin Lyons (2028, Cibolo, Texas) put on a display for Canes Southwest Prime 16U. Went 7-14 at the plate with a pair of doubles and triples, while driving in 13 runs. He won Tournament MVP for his efforts. Physical left-handed frame with feel to hit to all fields. Utilizes the middle of the field as well as the opposite field efficiently. Should be a force to be reckoned with as he grows into some more power. Evan Rosales (2027, Houston, Texas) was dominant on the mound for HP 2027 Allen. Went five shutout innings over the weekend, surrendering just one hit and two walks while striking out ten. Fastball lives 83-87 with some carry. Curveball is a heavy 12/6 downer at 69-74. North-south approach with a super steep release. Showed some really good feel for the zone and sequenced effectively to keep hitters off balance.
