HS Rankings Update: April 26

We’re another week into what has been an eventful spring and with many of the southern states from coast-to-coast either starting playoffs this week or wrapping up their regular seasons shortly, these rankings will really be taking shape and we’ll see some more nationally-ranked matchups emerge. While there’s not much argument to what teams deserve to be up near the top of the rankings, it’s becoming especially difficult at the absolute top. Stoneman Douglas (Fla.) holds the top spot in this update as their 3-0 week pushes them to 21-2 on the year ahead of their final week of the regular season, but Orchard Lake St. Mary’s (Mich.) is pressing hard for the top spot as they put together an insanely impressive 7-0 stretch over the last seven days, including wins against some of the top programs in Michigan and Ohio.

Bishop Gorman (Nev.) moves up to the third spot as they now sit at 27-1 with just a few games left in their regular season, while IMG Academy (Fla.) sneaks back up to No. 4 behind two extra-inning wins and another win over ranked Tampa Jesuit. Orange Lutheran (Fla.) slips just a couple spots to No. 5 this week after falling in the semifinals of the Boras Classic but bounced back to win the third-place game by a score of 21-2 against an array of talented arms. Many familiar faces litter the next group as Barbe (La.), Rockwall-Heath (Texas) and Hamilton (Ariz.) make up No. 6, No. 7 and No. 8, respectively, but a fresh face is at No. 9 as Calvary Christian (Fla.) jumps into the Top 10 after taking both games from highly-ranked Berkeley Prep late last week.

There were a handful of notable risers this week and those teams come in the next 15 spots or so. No. 11 Buchanan (Calif.) put together a strong sweep of Clovis last week, putting them on the edge of the Top 10, No. 12 Houston County (Ga.) looks like the 6A favorite in the state of Georgia, No. 14 Hartselle (Ala.) has established themselves as the most talented team in the state of Alabama, No. 15 Jackson Prep (Miss.) represents the top team in Mississippi, No. 16 Don Bosco Prep (N.J.) posted a pair of wins over one of the top programs in the region in Bergen Catholic, No. 17 Parkview (Ga.) continues their quest for a four-peat in Georgia’s 7A classification, No. 18 Villa Park (Calif.) just won the Boras Classic in impressive fashion with big wins over Servite, Huntington Beach, Notre Dame and JSerra to take the crown, No. 20 JSerra Catholic (Calif.) lost in the championship but was impressive at the previously-mentioned Boras Classic, and Providence (N.C.) is now 21-0 and dominating in North Carolina.
