Future Stars Take Center Stage at 14U BCS

The 21st annual 14U BCS National Championship returns to Fort Myers, Florida this Thursday through Monday, bringing many of the nation’s top teams to compete for one of the summer’s premier titles.

Seven nationally ranked teams, featuring some of the top prospects in the class of 2030, will take the field looking to prove why they rank among the country’s elite.



Headlining the field is No. 25-ranked outfielder James Watson of Canton, Georgia. The No. 9 outfielder in the nation has been one of the most productive hitters in the field this season, posting a 1.227 OPS while batting .394 with eight home runs, 69 RBI and 32 stolen bases over 84 games. Watson has also excelled on the mound, recording a 3.50 ERA with 65 strikeouts in 44 innings while holding opposing hitters to a .181 batting average. The athletic two-way player owns a 94 mph exit velocity, an 88-mph outfield arm and a fastball that has reached 89 mph, making him a key player to watch throughout the tournament.

He will be joined on East Cobb Astros 14U Orange by Kennesaw, Georgia third baseman Cohen Ward. The No. 84-ranked player in the class, Ward has been a consistent two-way standout this season, posting a 1.076 OPS while batting .356 with 32 RBI, 42 runs scored and 24 stolen bases across 59 games. On the mound, he owns a 1.43 ERA with 47 strikeouts over 29.1 innings while holding opposing hitters to a .181 batting average. Ward enters as the No. 1 third baseman in Georgia and the No. 8 third baseman in the country.

The East Cobb Astros, ranked No. 62 nationally, open tournament play Thursday July 9 at 2:45 p.m. on field 6 at JetBlue Park against the Nokona Chiefs.

Among the tournament favorites is Showtime Select 14u Fusco, which enters the event with three players ranked inside the national top 60. Their team is led by No. 30-ranked third baseman Leyland Henry of Houston, Texas. At 6-foot-2, 240 pounds, Henry brings a physical presence to the lineup with tremendous right-handed bat speed and advanced barrel skills. The No. 3-ranked third baseman in the country has backed that up with a standout season, posting a 1.405 OPS while hitting .403 with 13 home runs, 87 RBI and a .791 SLG across 88 games. Henry has also run his fastball up to 84 mph, making him one of the premier power bats to watch at the event.

Joining him on Showtime Select is No. 41-ranked outfielder and right-handed pitcher Jesse Soberal Jr. The Tomball, Texas native has been one of the top two-way performers this season. At the plate, he’s slashed .463/.577/.722 for a 1.299 OPS with 111 RBI, 117 runs scored and 69 stolen bases across 128 games. On the mound, Soberal owns a 2.37 ERA with 65 strikeouts over 59 innings pitched while holding opposing hitters to a .225 average. He also has run his fastball up to 87 mph and produced an 88 mph exit velocity.

Their teammate, No. 56-ranked right-handed pitcher Daniel Sangemino, enters as the No. 1 right-handed pitcher in Florida and the No. 8 right-handed pitcher in the nation. The Lakeland,

Florida native has been a reliable arm this season, posting a 3.00 ERA and 1.39 WHIP while striking out 31 batters over 18.2 innings. Opposing hitters are batting just .203 against him, and he has run his fastball up to 88 mph, giving his team a quality arm to rely on throughout the tournament.

Showtime Select’s depth extends beyond its top three prospects with No. 117-ranked left-handed pitcher Harrison Truszkowski of Traverse City, Michigan and No. 125-ranked third baseman Abbriel Ventura of New York, New York. Truszkowski has been effective on the mound this season, posting a 2.55 ERA and 1.14 WHIP with 31 strikeouts over 24.2 innings while holding opponents to a .136 batting average. The left-hander has run his fastball up to 84 mph. Ventura, a physical 6-foot-5 third baseman, has been one of the team’s top offensive threats, batting .452 with a 1.288 OPS, four home runs and 44 RBI in 48 games. He also boasts a 92 mph exit velocity and adds value as a two-way player with 40 strikeouts in 33.1 innings pitched.

Showtime Select’s first game will be at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday at Cypress Lake High School where they will take on Carolina Ghost 14u National.

No. 55-ranked third baseman Jayden Portes will represent CBU North Nation Alpha in his hometown of Fort Myers. Coming in at the No. 5-ranked third baseman nationally, Portes has put together an outstanding all-around season, posting a 1.434 OPS while batting .462 with 11 home runs, 94 RBI and 24 stolen bases across 79 games. The two-way standout has also impressed on the mound, recording a 2.46 ERA with 58 strikeouts over 37 innings while limiting opponents to a .206 batting average. Portes has run his fastball up to 85 mph and owns an 86 mph exit velocity.

Other teams expected to contend include No. 50-ranked Original Florida Pokers 2030 of Coral Springs, Florida; No. 51-ranked Dodgers Nation Select: Team Byrnes of Marietta, Georgia; No. 54-ranked NTX Wildcatters-14U-Negron of Haslet, Texas; and No. 56-ranked VSA Sluggers SWFL STNP, who will compete in their hometown of Fort Myers.

Pool play begins Thursday morning, with the championship game scheduled for Monday, July 13, at 12:30 p.m. at JetBlue Park.

The landscape of the MLB Draft continues to evolve each and every year. What teams value at the top of the draft can change based on the strength of a particular class, shifts in player development philosophy, and, perhaps most importantly, the way organizations evaluate risk and upside. Some trends are subtle, while others become impossible to ignore when viewed across multiple years. For this study, I set out to answer one question: What player profiles do teams value at the top of the draft? To answer it, I analyzed the Top-100 picks from each of the last six drafts (2021-2026). 2027 Top 100 Draft Board  Current Favorite: SS Dylan Seward, Norco HS (Calif.) In our first iteration of the 2027 Draft Board, Norco shortstop Dylan Seward ranks No. 1 overall. The switch-hitter is an ultra-twitchy player with a lot to like on both sides of the ball. He is a supreme athlete that should stick up the middle. Fifty-Four teams, competing across three divisions in the 14u - 18u age classifications opened up our Fall schedule playing in a five game showcase style format. For the several college coaches in attendance, they were able to get quality looks at numerous uncommitted 27’ and 28’ graduation year class athletes, as well as having the opportunity to watch some of the quality younger athletes as they put their talent on display.
