Brant Hurter, LHP, Georgia Tech

Hurter catches the eye from a physical standpoint as he stands at 6-foot-6 and is starting to fill out the frame as far as strength goes. The lefty has seen action since his freshman year at Georgia Tech and seems to be well-rounded because of it. With a combined 21 starts in his first two seasons, the lefty enters this year as a seasoned-type arm and proved just that on Thursday as he picked up the win in the first game of an in-conference series.

He has long been known for his typical three-pitch mix that seems to get better every time we see him. He was up to his normal low-90s fastball early and sat in the upper-80s later in his outing. He also mixed in a breaking ball showing late tilt with 1-to-7 movements in the upper-70s and a really good tumbling changeup in the low-80s that got swing and miss, especially to rightt-handed hitters. He does an exceptional job of tunneling the secondaries off the fastball as he goes about his business. The numbers here aren't going to jump off the page but what you can't account for over the internet is his pitchability. Hurter has a knack for hitting his spots and knows how to get outs.

The lefty has seemed to have cleaned up some lower half mechanical issues as he was direct to the dish and filled up the zone consistently. Everything is starting to fall into place and if he is to continue his strong spring so far, he could generate some noise as a later round pick come July with his experience being a big factor. In seven innings pitched, he struck out eight while giving up just six hits without walking a single hitter.
