Couple of inaugural 13U PG Select Festival members stole the show during playoff day at 15U WWBA. Bailey Thorne (2024, Phenix City, Ala.) of the Homeplate Chilidogs and Christian Rodriguez (2023, Coral Springs, Fla.) of the Hurricanes Scout Team each were standouts in their team's games.

Thorne woke everyone up by launching a homerun deep over the left field wall. Thorne has two-way talent, but the bat is what has really stood out this summer. Already batting in the cleanup spot for both the Homeplate Chilidogs and his high school at Russell County in Alabama, a nationally ranked team, Thorne has both power and bat speed that is going to play for a long time. The uncommitted righty has put on weight since his appearance at the plate during the High School Showdown. The swing is fast and the strength is obvious in his stroke.

Christian Rodriguez got the start during playoff action for the Hurricanes Scout Team. Already bumping 89 mph with his fastball, Rodriguez is a talented young pitcher whose arm strength is way beyond his years. The righthander pitched the Hurricanes into the quarterfinals with a dominant 4 2/3 inning start only allowing one hit. He works mostly with the fastball and he can control it to either side of the plate. His velocity was overpowering the hitters as it got on them quickly. Rodriguez is a talented young arm whose velocity could continue to climb as he puts more strength onto his frame.
