2019 East Coast Pro: Day 1 Scout Notes | Day 2 Scout Notes | Day 3 Scout Notes

East Coast Pro 2019’s final day saw the best weather of the weekend, with only a brief delay, and the scouts in attendance were treated to a very good final day of action without lengthy interruptions.

Jake Berry (2020, Great Falls, Va.) has had a solid summer on the circuit and continued it with a good showing in Hoover, as the 6-foot-10, 230-pound giant threw a lot of strikes and stood out in terms of his metrics. He’s every bit what he’s listed at, physically, and despite that length, he does a pretty solid job of repeating his delivery, allowing for him to throw strikes, which is not always the case for pitchers of his height/length. He worked up to 90 mph with his fastball and settled mostly into the 85-88 mph range, generating elite extension out front that was tracked up to nearly eight feet, per Trackman, causing the effective velocity of his fastball to play well above the raw velocity. There’s good angle to the plate there as well, another variable that aids in the quality of the fastball. He mixed in a slower curveball with some sweep to it as well as a changeup, which was the better pitch in my view, thrown with good velocity separation and some fading life around 80 mph.
