East Coast Pro: Day 1 Scout Notes

Photo: Alejandro Rosario (Perfect Game)

In what ended up being roughly 16 hours at the ballpark, day one of the East Coast Professional Showcase, or East Coast Pro for short, was excellent from a talent perspective. The day started off with workouts for all six teams in attendance, consisting of the 60-yard dash, a couple shorter rounds of batting practice and pregame defensive workouts. A lengthy rain/lightning delay paused the action midday, though the skies ended up clearing and we did get all three scheduled games in on Thursday evening.

Alejandro Rosario (2020, Miami, Fla.) didn’t get the ball until later on Thursday night but was nonetheless electric, as the PG All-American ran his fastball up to 97 mph, hit 96 mph several times, and settled in around 91-94 mph The pitch has consistently plus sinking life to it and the arm speed is plus-plus, giving Rosario potentially even more projection moving forward. His go-to secondary pitch is a splitter, thrown in the 78-82 mph range with excellent arm speed replication and late, fall-off-the-table tumbling action, projecting plus long term.
