Batting Practice Highlights: Part 2
5/20/2017
Carson Crowe (2018 RHP, Tuscaloosa, AL) is a primary right handed pitcher with an Alabama commit but one suspects the Crimson Tide also has their eyes at least as much on Crowe's very strong and projectable left handed bat.
AJ Zeak (2019 C, Hanover, PA) has a strong and loose right handed swing that gets good extension out front. He made consistent hard line drive contact to the middle of the field.
Miles Wilkins (2019 LHP, Lawrenceville, GA) had a very nice swing for a young primary pitcher, keeping it very short and direct, then opening it up late and showing lots of carry on the ball. He has a feel for the barrel and can use it.
Tyler Hare (2021 3B, Atlanta, GA) has a nice build for a youngster and develops nice bat speed for his age from a deep hand load and aggressive right handed swing. He definitely will keep improving as he matures physically.
Ethan Cornelius (2018 C, Atlanta, GA) has good present strength like many catchers and puts it to good use with a crisp pull oriented line drive swing that generated plenty of jump off the barrel.
Garrison Price (2018 OF, Oakwood, GA), twin brother Griffin Price (2018 2B, Oakwood, GA) and Patrick Walker (2019 C, Flowery Branch, GA) all attend Buford High School and all shared a very sound common approach at the plate that is very fundamentally sound and repeatable. Walker, given his being a year younger, probably stood out the most in batting practice by a narrow margin but the Buford coaching staff looks like it is teaching a very sound hitting approach at this look.
Tanner Green (2018 OF, Bishop, GA) catches the eye immediately with his very athletic 6-foot-3, 205 build and his raw left handed bat speed. He has a big shift into contact that he controls well and keeps his hands back and ready to drive through the ball.
Harry Ford (2021 C, Kennesaw, GA) is just coming out of the 8th grade but shows some serious quickness and explosiveness in his hands that are really going to serve him well as a hitter in the future.
Michael Goehrig (2018 C, Suwanee, GA) has very good strength for his size and can get the ball to jump off his barrel well, with especially hard contact to the middle to opposite fields.
Kyle Riesselmann (2019 OF, Peachtree City, GA) is all arms and legs now but has serious leverage in his swing and near top of the scale raw power potential when you factor in how projectable his long and slender body is. Keep a close eye on him as he gets stronger.
Luke Hasty (2021 C, Phenix City, AL) is yet another of the talented 2021's we saw this weekend, with very good bat speed for his age and good looseness and extension out front that promises future power.
Sam Kimel (2018 OF, Huntsville, AL) looks like a hitter when he steps into the left handed batter's box and he didn't disappoint in BP, lining deep line drives to both gaps with a smooth and strong swing.
Mauro Jimenez (2018 C, Marietta, GA) has a catcher's strong lower half and he uses it very well in his swing to help generate raw bat speed. He's notably short to the ball with his hands for a hitter with a power approach.
CJ Neese Jr (2019 SS, Greensboro, NC) has a very projectable 6-foot-3, 175-pound build and a loose and fast right handed swing driven by a big shift towards his front side that he controls and times well.
Wade Elliott (2019 3B, Edmond, OK) dominated during games but he showed his tools just as well in batting practice with an easy, low effort swing that produced lots of bat speed and plenty of jump on the ball.
Wesley Diamantis (2018 1B, Atlanta, GA) has the strong power approach you'd look for in a 6-foot-2, 210-pound left handed hitter and pulls the ball with authority.
Hayden Stapleton (2020 SS, Greenville, SC) stands out for a 2020 with his strong 6-foot-2, 190-pound build as well has his strength and present bat speed.
Batting Pratice Highlights: Part 1
5/20/2017
Justin Looney (2019 C, Columbia, MD) has a quick right handed bat with good strength and the ability to drive the ball hard with his loose extension out front. Some adjustments to his exaggerated open stance would give him better balance and more consistent timing.
Max Beck Berendsen (2021 OF, Marietta, GA) was one of many 2021's who were impressive in batting practice. He has a loose swing with extension and lift and gets good jump on the ball when he's timed up. Very projectable
Jun Choi (2018 C, Greenwood Village, CO) came all the way from Colorado but made the humid air of Atlanta seem like the mile high thin stuff from home, blasting a number of balls off the left field fence with an aggressive hitting style with plenty of bat speed and lift to it.
Omar Daniels (2019 SS, Lawrenceville, GA) is a front side hitter who has very quick hands and a short line drive swing that should produce consistent square contact. When he gets stronger, those line drives should be going up the gaps.
Bowen Bock (2018 OF, Cumming, GA) has a notably short swing for a 6-foot-4 athlete and it's a swing that he can repeat for consistent solid contact. He flashed his power potential late in the round when he opened up his swing a bit.
Brant Brown (2019 OF, Springville, AL) showed lots of power potential and bat quickness from the left side of the plate. His challenge will be simplifying his pre-swing hand action to enable him to better time better pitching.
Zane Denton (2019 3B, Brentwood, TN) is a switch-hitter with a very aggressive approach and very good bat speed, especially from the left side of the plate. It looks like he'll be able to continue switch-hitting at the next level with the tools he showed.
Shawn Brown (2020 SS, Baxley, GA) had one of the best fundamental swings of any hitter at the showcase, which is very impressive for such a young player. He has lots of time to keep getting stronger and produce some real bat speed.
Colin Koprowski (2020 3B, Canton, GA) is another freshman who had a strong and well balanced approach that enabled him to consistently square up the ball hard to all fields.
Continuing with freshman, Landon Lewis (2020 1B, Chattanooga, TN) is a long bodied 6-foot-4 athlete who shifts into contact well and gets the barrel into the zone on time. He flashed what could become some serious power.
Ben Kailher (2019 SS, Rumford, RI) represented the Northeast well in all aspects of his game, including batting practice. He has solid bat speed with an aggressive approach and some lift to his swing.
Trippe Moore (2020 RHP, Forsyth, GA) is a primary pitcher but showed that he could also develop as a hitter, with good present bat speed and hard middle of the field contact.
Brian Williams (2019 OF, Mendota Heights, MN) plays at one of the top high school programs in Minnesota but fit in very well with his Southeast peers, showing an lifting swing with good extension and lots of potential.
Tyler Causey (2019 SS, Fort Mill, SC) has a pitcher's 6-foot-5, 175-pound build but definitely a shortstop's very smooth left handed swing. He will be interesting to watch in the context of how his body develops.
Isaiah Fleming (2018 OF, Loganville, GA) has a very simple right handed swing and hammered gap to gap line drives the whole BP. He has a young body and definitely would benefit from more strength but the swing basics are there.
Jackson Sherrill (2019 1B, Brentwood, TN) had some of the best raw power at the event but will have to cut down on his front leg load in order to have the timing to use it consistently.
Asher Spivey (2019 C, Atlanta, GA) is really strong at 5-foot-11, 205-pounds and has a quick and short right handed swing that produced hard line drives to all fields.
