Batting Practice Highlights

8/24/2019

Cal Kilgore (2021 C, Overland Park, KS) has good quick hands at the plate and was very consistent in his timing to fire them.  He peppered the left centerfield gap with hard line drives the whole round and will continue to improve his overall bat speed as he fills out his 6-0/165 frame.

Sam McAleer (2022 C, Leawood, KS) was another catcher on the Black team who showed well in BP.  The long 6-2 right handed hitter has a spread stance with good strength and lift in his swing and projects lots of power in the future.

Eli Harpalani (2021 2B, Wexford, PA) has a compact 5-9/175 build and short arms, which gives him a short and strong swing.  He squared up just about every ball from a simple swing approach that was extremely well timed.

Blake Bridges (2021 OF, Nixa, MO) has timing issues due to an excessive leg raise trigger but the 6-4/175 right handed hitter as as much raw power as any player at the event.  If he can simplify and time up his swing he's going to start dropping bombs.

Auston Luna (2021 OF, Dora, MO) has an aggressive swing approach and a strong lift and pull swing that is looking to drive the ball.  He had big jump off the barrel when he stayed back and waited on the ball.

Jacob Frost (2021 1B, Saint Louis, MO) is a big and strong 6-1/205 left handed hitter with a gap to gap approach and hard jump off the barrel.  He has the strength and lift n his swing to learn how to turn the barrel more consistently and pull the ball with power.

Trent Rueckert (2020 OF, Kansas City, MO) is a mature senior right handed hitter who looked like he knew his swing well and was confident at the plate.  He created carry off the barrel from a quick rotational swing and pulled the ball hard.

Eli Fahnestock (2021 OF, Wichita, KS) has a big and strong 6-1/195 build and a smooth and easy right handed swing from a spread start.  He made consistent hard line drive contact and projects some power in the future.

Grant Rhodes (2021 OF, Parkville, MO) has a loose and projectable 6-2/160 build that has lots of room for additional strength.  He has a very nice shift into contact that helps him stay well timed and develop nice present bat speed and some explosion at contact.

Boone Shevey (2021 C, Springfield, MO) is a switch-hitting catcher with bat speed and some pop from both sides of the plate.  He's had more repetitions from the left side and it shows in the looseness and flow to his swing but the strength is still there from the right side.

Luke Quackenbush (2021 3B, Springfield, MO) took the best BP round of the day.  He has quick hands and explodes them at the ball aggressively, creating lots of right handed bat speed.  He consistently drove the left centerfield gap hard and deep.

Gideon Antle (2020 OF, Licking, MO) is a fast twitch athlete with hand speed to the ball and an aggressive, attacking swing approach from the right side.  He stood out in all aspects throughout the first day of the showcase and definitely in batting practice.

Ethan Fender (2022 MIF, Springdale, AR) is a young middle infielder with a 5-9/160 build but showed surprising bat speed and strength at contact.  The ball jumped hard to the middle of the field all round and he turned on one late to show his power.

Brock Kobel (2022 OF, Lees Summit, MO) has a short  and efficient high average swing that he repeats well and used to hit hard line drives all over the field.

Zach Fox (2022 3B, Stilwell, KS) has a nice 6-2/180 build that projects very well and already has some present strength.  He flashed big power potential from the right side and will continue to grow in both his strength and his ability to repeat his swing mechanics.

Purple Vs. Maroon Game Highlights

8/24/2019

Gavin Clevenger (2021 OF, Kansas City, MO) Displayed gap to gap pop with a loud triple into the left center field gap in the 3rd inning. Clevenger showed good barrel control throughout the game adding on to his triple with a hard single waiting back on a fastball and taking it the other way.

Tanner Krist (2020 SS, West Des Moines, IA) Showed the ability to create bat speed and work with the barrel out front creating consistently driven contact to the pull side. Krist collected two hits on the day including a loud double in the 12th inning showing the present pull side pop.

Colby Hoover (2022 RHP, West Plains, MO) Sat on a fastball for a double down the left field line showing the ability to turn the barrel over creating loud contact to the pull side when on time and squared.

Bryson Luna (2021 2B, Dora, MO) Features a naturally elevated barrel plane with good bat speed, creating solid contact to all fields when on time and squared. Showed the ability to drive the ball to and through the gaps in the outfield with a RBI double in the 5th inning.

Braden Hoffman (2022 OF, Lawrence, KS) Showed present power with a loud line drive through the outfield gap. Flashed athleticism as well stretching the sure double into a triple.

5-Red vs 7-White Game Highlights

8/24/2019

Aidan Simpson (2022 3B, Kansas City, MO) Makes loud contact with some consistency and looks to make elevated contact. Drove a ball deep into the pull side gap for a stand up triple.

Kole Younger (2021 C, Fenton, MO) Hard contact in multiple at-bats. Drove in a run on his second single of the day on a line drive back up the middle to center field. Had a hard single back up the middle in his final trip for three base hits.

Daley Thompson (2021 3B, Eureka, MO) Large frame with present strength that is utilized in swing. Strong hands inside driving a ball deep into the left centerfield gap for a triple.

Layden White (2021 C, Lubbock, TX) Has really hit well in game today. Adds a triple in his second game to go with a single and double in his first. Long drive into deep left centerfield.

Peter Stewart (2021 3B, Ortonville, MI) Hitting well and finding the barrel with consistency in the game. Hard line drive back up in the middle in his first at-bat and a loud drive to the pull side gap for a double in his second trip to the plate.

Devyn Wright (2022 LHP, Nixa, MO) Kept the hands in tight and used an inside out path to drive a liner down the opposite field line. Came in easy for a stand up double.

6-Royal vs 7-White Game Highlights

8/24/2019

Conner Filer (2021 OF, Omaha, NE) Has some big time pop in his bat when getting the barrel out in front. Drove a ball deep into the pull side gap for an easy triple to the fence.

Zach Fox (2022 3B, Stilwell, KS) Displayed some quick hands through the zone on an elevated plane. Got a ball in the air to straight away center field for and RBI double.

Gideon Antle (2020 OF, Licking, MO) Very advanced hitter in the box with a high contact rate as well as some jump off the barrel. Had two singles in the game including a 2-RBI line drive to straight away left field. Also poses a threat on the bases with smart instincts and speed to go with it.

Charlie Roder (2020 LHP, Kansas City, MO) Three solid innings on the mound allowing just a single run. Projects well from the left side. Mixed well and landed both a fastball at 81 MPH and a slider for quality strikes.

1-Black Vs. 2-Gold Game Highlights

8/24/2019

Connor Carson (2020 RHP, Overland Park, KS) Features an athletic delivery with good pace down the mound. Flashed a fastball with late cut up to 85 mph complemented with a 10/4 breaking ball with shorter, sharper break creating swing and miss at 77 mph and a little sinking change up at 80 mph. Carson worked 4 innings while only allowing 1 hit and striking out 5.

Noah Young (2021 RHP, Overland Park, KS) The 2021 grad showed a long delivery with a long, loose arm action throwing from a three-quarter slot with interesting arm speed. Flashed a fastball with heavy life through the zone and occasional arm side run up to 85 mph complemented with a developing 10/4 curveball with big depth. Young worked 3 innings on the day allowing no hits while striking out 5 batters and allowing 0 runs.

Blake Gillespie (2022 SS, Lucan, ON) Displayed power to and through the gaps with a loud double in the 11th inning. Flashed good bat speed and barrel control turning around the fastball for a loud double down the left field line.

Blake Bridges (2021 OF, Nixa, MO) Collected two hits on the day. Showed good bat to ball skills with two solid singles both right back up the middle during the game on Saturday. The 2021 grad features a level plane with good bat speed creating consistently driven line drives.

Jack Hunke (2021 RHP, Foristell, MO) The Missouri State commit showed athletic actions down the mound with good arm speed from a three-quarter slot. Showed a fastball up to 87 mph with heavy life through the zone creating swing and miss complemented with a sharp 11/5 breaking ball at 74 mph. In his three innings of work Hunke only surrendered one hit while striking out 6.

5-Red vs 6-Royal Game Highlights

8/24/2019

Quin Smith (2021 C, Lee’S Summit, MO) Keeps the hands in tight and works the barrel out in front. Drove a hard line drive into the corner for a ground rule double, driving in a run early in the game. Drove in another run in his second at bat with a single up the middle.

Anthony Fincher (2022 RHP, Overland Park, KS) Kept his hands back on a changeup just long enough to drive a ball down the line to the left field corner. Hard hit double that rolled to the wall.

Morgan Lunceford (2021 RHP, Edmond, OK) Was near untouchable in his three innings of work. Ran the fastball up to 86 MPH and paired it well with a sharp slider with feel for working away against righthanded hitters. Also flashed a changeup as well. Ended the game with six strike outs.

Layden White (2021 C, Lubbock, TX) Seeing the ball well in game with a couple of hard line drives to the outfield. Singled in his first at-bat to straight away centerfield. Also drove a double to the wall in straight away centerfield.
