2019 14U Sunshine Northeast (06/01/2019 - 06/02/2019)

Green vs. Gray Highlights >>

6/2/2019 9:48:20 AM

Eugenio Mastandrea (2022 RHP, Floral Park, NY) took a slider on the inner half of the plate and turned on the pitch for a line drive single over the first base bag in his first trip to the plate. Later in the game he went to the opposite gap for a standup double.

Jason Portella (2022 C, Yorktown Heights, NY) followed later in the inning for the Green team and got a slider he could handle as well, dropping the pitch into left field for a two RBI single.

Aidan Zakarewicz (2023 SS, Chalfont, PA) continued to swing it well in live action, turning on a fastball for the first extra base hit of the contest, doubling deep down the left field line. He also impressed on the mound with a loose and quick arm, up to 78 mph with his fastball and shows running life to it.

Jeremy Diaz (2023 OF, Flushing, NY) made the defensive play of the game in the third inning in left field as he immediately broke in and made a fully extended catch to rob a base knock.

Graedon Finarelli (2023 3B, Dallas, PA) did a nice job of staying short and direct ot the ball with his swing and drove a 77 mph fastball off the left field fence for a double; the ball jumped well and he shows strength to his frame. He nearly replicated that swing later in the game, again going deep to left field for another double that bounced off the warning track.

Reggie Sharpe (2024 SS, Grosse Pointe Park, MI) moved well defensively up the middle with softness to his hands early in the game and later connected for a double down the line on a fastball that rode in on his hands.

11- Gray Vs. 12- Green >>

Garrett Backus (2022 C, Unadilla, NY) doubled in his first at bat of the day today. Backus has quiet approach at the plate with a nice easy swing and has pop in his bat.

Liam Bowes (2022 C, Shoreham, NY) singled twice this afternoon for the gray team today. Bowes does a good job of hitting the ball where it's pitched and showed good instincts with speed on the bases.

Shawn Cali (2023 OF, East Taunton, MA) hit the ball hard all day today including doubling in his first at bat. Cali has a short compact swing with good speed on the bases and showed the ability to square the ball up.

Ben Schild (2023 RHP, Lincroft, NJ) topped out at 83mph on the mound today mixing in a curveball at 64mph and a changeup at 70mph. Schild has a fast arm, attacking hitters with his fastball and showed a feel for his breaking ball. At the plate Schild doubled in his first bat. Schild does a good job of keeping his barrel in the zone and has a quick bat.

Aidan Zakarewicz (2023 SS, Chalfont, PA) doubled in his last at bat of the day. Zakarewicz is a gap to gap hitter with pop and showed bat speed.

Batting Practice Highlights >>

Jeremy Diaz (2023 OF, Flushing, NY) starts his swing with a higher hand set in the box and does a nice job of generating extension out front while showing looseness to his hands. The ball comes off his barrel well and he’s able to work to all fields and still projects well with added strength.

Liam Bowes (2022 C, Shoreham, NY) took one of the louder rounds at the 14u portion of the showcase, utilizing his physical strength while showing fluidity to his path. He shifts his weight well through his lower half and creates extension out front with the present ability to generate back spin while showing jump off the barrel.

Michael Flax (2022 SS, Mullica Hill, NJ) is a bit upper body dominant in his swing but shows quickness to his hands which in turn creates nice bat speed through the zone. He worked consistently on a linear plane through the zone and found the barrel nicely while living to his pull side.

Andrew Park (2022 OF, Flushing, NY) is a young lefthanded who showed well in his round of BP, creating some whip to the barrel while showing loose hands. There are some timing mechanisms to his swing but when he was in sync, he showed jump off the barrel to the middle and pull side parts of the field.

Kyle Peters (2023 RHP, Drums, PA) is listed as a primary righthanded pitcher though that didn’t stop him from taking one of the better 14u rounds of BP. His swing has some length to it but there’s quickness to his hands and he utilizes the strength to his frame well working the middle of the field while picking up a home run to his pull side, too.

Aidan Zakarewicz (2023 SS, Chalfont, PA) worked to the opposite part of the field early in his round, living towards the gap with quickness to his hands. He stays linear through the zone and projects moving forward with some mechanical adjustments to his swing.
