PG National Kicks Off in Arizona

Roughly 330 of the top players in the country - along with a handful of athletes from Canada - will be in Phoenix, Arizona July 7-11 at Chase Field to show MLB scouts - from all 30 teams - what they’re made of in the 2025 PG National Showcase.

Greg Sabers, Perfect Game’s Vice President of Showcases & Scouting has been an integral part of this event for the past 20 years.

“My favorite part is getting all the best players on the same field taking BP, working out and getting some at-bats,” Sabers said. “It’s just the excitement around it - knowing you’re seeing the next major league stars.”

Each of the Top-10 players in the class of 2026 are participating this year: No. 1 Grady Emerson (Texas), No. 2 Jacob Lombard (Florida), No. 3 Jorvorskie Lane Jr. (Texas), No. 4 Brady Harris (Florida), No. 5 Tyler Spangler (California), No. 6 Rookie Shepard (Nevada), No. 7 Keon Johnson (Georgia), No. 8 Beau Peterson (Kansas), No. 9 Kevin Roberts Jr. (Mississippi) and No. 10 Nathaneal Davis (Florida).

The list doesn’t stop there - as several go the ‘26 top-500 players will be taking the field with something to prove.

There’s a chance for anyone to turn heads at this event - no matter the number next to their name. It goes beyond proving that a player is one of the best in his age group - this is the arena where a player could show his potential to make it to the big show.

“Everybody has a chance,” Sabers said. “Each year, somebody’s going to be jumping up 200 spots and making that All-American team at the National. It’s all on the same field and everybody’s seen by the same people.”

The legacy of this event goes back to its birth in 2001. More than 600 major league players and over 3,000 draft picks have participated in this showcase since then. Sabers said he’s seen so many success stories that have been part of this event, he can’t remember them all. He mentioned players like Bobby Witt Jr., Freddie Freeman, Pete Crow-Armstrong, Francisco Lindor and Joey Votto - just to name a few.

“It’s kind of a ‘who’s-who’ in baseball,” Sabers explained. “From [National], we get the short list for the All-American team and then we’ll make final selections once the event ends.”

The players are divided into 12 groups - each of their groups being a team that will compete against one another.

The first few groups will convene on Monday, July 7, at 9 a.m. to start off with workouts - including a 60-meter dash, outfield throwing, infield throwing, and catcher’s pop times. The groups will then get 30 minutes each of batting practice before playing a few games.

This schedule is more-or-less repeated through Tuesday and Wednesday with the rest of the groups. On Thursday and Friday, the groups will compete against one another in a game format without any workout.

Be sure to keep an eye on @PerfectGameUSA on X and Instagram - you won’t want to miss the big hits, pitches and plays from some of the game’s future stars.

Article Image
After both the Best of the West and the Beast of the East wrapped up, a big conglomerate of high end talent and stacked teams descended upon West Palm for both the 13u and the 14u WWBA World Championships. While the weather threw a wrench into the plans early on and some adjustment was needed to ensure the event moved forward, it was nothing but sunshine and competitive baseball throughout Sunday and into the early morning Monday.  Kicking off with the 13u WWBA World Championship, the first thing to point out is the fact this was a wood bat tournament played on 60-90 fields and while the combo was a first for most, you wouldn't know it with their level of play throughout the weekend. In an unsurprising twist and a continuation of their 12u dominance, the 13u championship saw the #2 seeded Goldin Prospects lock horns with the top seeded Houston Wildcatters, aka the champion of the...

The WWBA World Championship remains one of the premier events on the draft calendar as all 30 major league organizations descend on Jupiter to evaluate some of the top talent in amateur baseball.
