Reborn Academy Claims the Crown

Reborn Academy outlasts Sunshine State Elite Academy

Fort Myers, Fla. — Reborn Academy was crowned champions of the 2023 Perfect Game High School Showdown after they defeated the Sunshine State Elite Academy, 6-4, in the championship face-off.

Reborn Academy was 2-1 after pool play, with their pitching doing the heavy lifting. In their first game of the event, Jose David Villegas Pacheco, Victor Feliz, and Daniel Accetta all combined for the seven-inning perfect game victory over the Central Florida Rays. Ezequiel Ortiz went out in game two and threw 75% strikes over 5.2 innings pitched, allowing the offense to get the lead, a task they were able to take care of.

With plenty of scouts on-hand, Reborn Academy sent Charlee Soto, the No. 2 ranked right-handed pitcher in the country to the mound. He was dominant as usual over 6.2 innings pitched. Reborn would fall during a seventh-inning rally against Central Pointe Christian Academy but they would win the rubber match on Sunday morning and punch their ticket to the championship game. With a huge first-inning and key extra-base hits from Francis Jr Alberto and Harold Laracuente, they defeated Central Pointe Christian Academy 8-6.

In the championship, Reborn Academy squared off with Sunshine Elite Academy and both teams traded blows, but it was Jose David Villegas Pacheco who got it done once again over a complete game performance with zero earned runs after some errors allowed Sunshine to tack a few runs on. A sacrifice fly from Eddiel Almodovar gave Reborn Academy the lead and backstop Maikol Lucena tacked another run on in the top of the seventh to extend the lead to two.

Reborn Academy took home the championship on a 6-4 victory over Sunshine State Elite Academy. After his dominant performance in the championship game, Jose David Villegas Pacheco was named the MV-Pitcher of the event. He threw 10 scoreless innings where he punched out 11 opposing hitters while walking just one.

Sunshine State Elite Academy’s Esteban Olivares was named the MVP of the event after consistently getting it done at the plate. He hit .528 with 2 doubles and a home run while driving in 4 runs.
