WWBA World Championship: Staff Picks

Isaiah Burrow's Pick: Canes National/NY Mets Scout Team
Simply put, Canes National has assembled an absurd roster once again. It is deep with the highest end talent, including five Top 50 ranked players between the 2024 and 2025 classes. They are deep on the dirt and have a slew of mid-to-high-90s arms in any given situation. Combine that with some of the quickest twitch athletes roaming grass and you have an absolute unit. Canes National is no stranger to performing in the highest stakes tournaments, and this year's roster has what it takes to take the Jupiter crown again.

Tyler Kotila's Pick: CBA Marucci
CBA Marucci is headed to Jupiter looking to come out on top, and they brought the squad to do so. With a litany of talented players on both sides of the ball. Players like Daniel Arambula, Ethan Clauss, and Nicholas Montgomery are expected to provide a boost in the lineup. Smith Bailey, Cohen Gomez, and Mason Russell are expected to get it done on the mound. Watch out for CBA Marucci to make some noise!

Jheremy Brown's Pick: 5 Star/Top Tier Roos Mafia
Three key things to making a run in a tournament like this one: depth, talent and chemistry. Quick look at this roster and it's: CHECK, CHECK, CHECK. The three-headed PG All-American monster of Myles Bailey, Hunter Carns and Cade Brown is potent one, though as you look up and down this 5 Star/Top Tier Roos roster it's littered with D1 commits and high-end talent, from speedsters to contact bats and power types, there's a little bit of everything. Their 17 primary arms are almost a necessity to not only win the pool, but make a championship run, and with a collection of talented left-handers like Tomas Valincius and McCall Biemiller, this club has what it takes to be the last team standing.

Brian Sakowski's Pick: Canadian Premier
This Canadian Premier club, which is made up of top players from around the province of Ontario, comes to Jupiter in 2023 for their second go-round playing for the WWBA World Championship following a solid showing a year ago in their inaugural run. Many of those same players are back, and this team comes loaded with not only a talented roster, but the experience of having played on this stage already. There are power arms throughout the pitching staff and power throughout the everyday lineup, with good blends of approach, athleticism and defensive skill mixed in. It's a deep, talented team capable of taking anyone's best punch and dishing it right back out. They'll be tested early in pool play and, as Jupiter does, their depth will surely be tested throughout the early goings of the weekend, but the vast majority of these players have big stage experience and won't be easily intimidated. Look for the stars of this roster to shine bright in Jupiter, but it's the depth and quality of said depth that's giving me confidence in this pick. A Canadian club winning Jupiter? I could see it.

Johnnie McAdams’ Pick: USA Prime National/Detroit Tigers Scout Team
With a roster that includes three Perfect Game All-American Classic participants amongst its twenty-two Division One commits, they look “primed” to make a deep run at the WWBA World Championship this upcoming week in Jupiter. PGAAC Alums Jake Yeager and Schuyler Sanford both bring high octane arsenals to the pitching staff, as they should be counted upon either in a pivotal pool play matchup or playoff game. North Carolina commit Ryan Lynch, Georgia commit Ford Thompson and the 6-foot-7 West Virginia commit Maclelland Stiffler are more than capable of getting big outs in pressure situations, while bringing intriguing stuff to the table. Aukai (Jaydon) Kea, another PGAAC Alum will bring power to the middle-of-the lineup and will be joined by the likes of LSU commit Kale Fountain, Carter Johnson and Ky McGary. A trio of 2025 Grads in Sean Gamble, Josiah Hartshorn and Caleb Barnett bring a bevy of exciting tools with them, while providing plenty of offensive prowess of their own. Look for the multitude of bats, mixed in with power arms to lead them to victory on the biggest stage in amateur baseball.

Tyler Russo's Pick: GBG/TB SoCal National
GBG is just a couple of years removed from winning it all in the event widely known as “Jupiter” (Fort Myers in 2020), so they know what it’s like to dogpile at the end of this thing; for this year, they join with a talented group in TB SoCal to make this an even stronger contender. This roster for 2023 is balanced with a core group of offensive guys that’ll likely not have to share many of their at-bats with a long line on the bench, like some other rosters are constructed, but they do have depth on the mound in the form of 10 arms, 7 of which are already slated to play at the Division I level after the spring. If the offense can click and show what they look like they can do on paper, this team has the parts to make a deep run and come out on top in Jupiter this time.

Vinnie Cervino's Pick: Power Baseball 2024 Marucci
Power Baseball is in a very good spot after winning the 17u WWBA National Championship in July and will look to achieve the rarely secured double gauntlet of winning Jupiter as well. 17u MVP Brodie Johnston will lead the team in the middle of the order flanked by fellow All-Americans Talan Bell and Kaiden Lopez. This is a veteran team who has been playing together for multiple years and groups of this magnitude tend to do well when it comes down to bracket play at Jupiter.

Jordan Gates' Pick: Team Elite/Atlanta Braves Scout Team
Braves Scout Team enters as another veteran club with a depth of pitching talent that will look to be their ace in the hole when it comes to advancing in bracket play. All-American Michael Mullinax is the highest ranked player on the roster while Underclass All-Star Evan Hankins will also be a force in the middle of the lineup. Veteran arms like Owen Hancock and Thorpe Musci have big game experience and this is a threat to get to Monday.

Geoff Billock's Pick: Knights Knation/Dodgers Scout Team
Knights Knation has a good mix of established talent along with young West Coast talent but the key in the middle of this lineup is Sam Erickson, one of the more polished hitters at this event. Highly touted juniors like Diego Velazquez and Landon Hodge should provide plenty of intrigue and this has a good mix of core and upside to be dangerous later in bracket play.

Cam McElwaney's Pick: Exposure National Scout Team
Exposure had a great summer and most of the roster stays intact for one last run on the biggest stage. Perfect Game All American, Conrad Cason, is as tooled up as anyone in the class and if he gets hot he can carry the load. Jason Bello, Anthony Tralongo and Mateo Gray are as consistent as they come on the circuit and are super versatile. This team is deep and experienced and certainly have the confidence that they will be playing on Monday for hardware.

Jered Goodwin's Pick: Stix Baseball Brewster/White Sox Scout Team
This comes down to depth and an insanely versatile roster. On the mound they can play match ups by hand or slot to turn lineups over or get out of pressure spots. Lance Davis will be a must watch when he jumps on the mound. The lineup is lettered with star-powered youth like Spencer Browning, and star-powered experience like Ethan Murray. There are few rosters that on paper will have so many fresh bodies down the stretch of this gauntlet of a tournament.

Scott Rankin's Pick: East Cobb Astros
The East Cobb Astros are looking to come out and compete at Jupiter. They’re full of talent on both sides of the ball, and should be able to hang with the opposition. With standouts like Bubba Coleman, Malachi Washington, Trevor Condon, they have the impact bats to produce results. Kayden Campbell is looking to go out and impress. They have a mix of bats and solid arms that should be able to make a difference for them as they look to go on a run in Jupiter.

Todd Coffey's Pick: South Charlotte Panthers
The South Charlotte Panthers have a wealth of depth in their pitching staff as they look to show up and turn some heads. Between some real impact bats and a pitching staff chock-full of standout names, the Panthers will look to stave off the opposition, building on some good outings from their pitchers.

Colt Olinger's Pick: East Coast Sox
The East Coast Sox are looking to utilize a deep roster of talented prospects, including 21 commits and a plethora of ranked players. They are hoping some of their stars can standout and produce some offense, coupled with a a snowball off competitive outings on the mound, giving them the chance to go on a run at Jupiter.

Craig Cozart's Pick: Cangelosi Sparks
Pool A is loaded, and I had the Cangelosi Sparks listed as my “dark horse” but with some untimely injuries to the Dirtbags roster, the Sparks are now sitting pretty. Fundamentally sound teams that fill up the strike zone and take care of the ball always play deep in Jupiter. That is exactly what this club does, but they can also really slug the ball. The lineup has depth and flexibility which should give teams challenges from a matchup standpoint. I also like the stock of LHPs on this club as they can neutralize opponents and cut down on the running game. The Sparks have a real shot.

Steve Doherty's Pick: Hawaii Elite 2G
14 players ranked in the top 500 and 8 total Division I commits round out a talented and hungry squad. Don’t sleep on these toolsy prospects from the island of Oahu who bring athleticism and the desire to compete against teams from the mainland. Look for the uber athletic Texas Tech commit Jace Souza to lead the charge in pool play. Tanner Chun (Tulane) and Chandler Murray (uncommitted) will supply the power for this lineup as they've been on a tear in PG events this summer. This could be the best team off the island in a long time.

13u Tourney All-American Team

Jheremy Brown
Article Image
What a year it was in 2025 on the national landscape at the 13u level as Perfect Game continues to expand its reach around the country, providing an even bigger schedule of events coast-to-coast which has allowed players all over show out and gain their deserved recognition. Whether in Texas for the Houston 1000 or the 13u WWBA in West Palm Beach, we saw huge, eye opening performances from the players placed below, knowing that we could EASILY build a third team and likely a fourth without much effort.  As we do every year with this exercise, it's worth pointing out the trickiness of this age group and putting the teams together with the 13u group. While the players are all members of the Class of 2030, some are younger for the grade, which allowed them to play at the 12u level where's it's a smaller field, shorter mound distance and different bats, so we'll separate them out and...

Top 2028 Collegiate Draft Prospects

The college players in the 2028 draft class have yet to step on campus, but they're positioned to make an immediate impact. Several high end talents either turned down significant money last year or honored strong college commitments, resulting in their arrival on campus this fall. The class is currently led by a trio of high-upside arms in Jack Bauer, Angel Cervantes, and Cameron Appenzeller. They are followed by a deep group of bats that rounds out a strong, high end Top-10. 2025 Year in Review: JUCO

Blaine Peterson

Looking Back at the 2025 Top 10  Matt Barr (‘25 Niagara, ‘26 Minnesota Twins) Bursting onto the scene last winter, footage of an indoor bullpen rocketed Barr onto the radar of many. Explosive fastball reaches near triple digits with incredible spin numbers across the secondaries. Huge numbers at Niagara earned him the title of the first Juco player drafted in 2025. JC Vanek (‘25 Chipola, ‘26 Kansas City Royals) Just a professional hitter. Vanek for two years at Chipola was an impossible out. While there are questions if the power will ever reach what it takes to play first base at the big league level, the bat and quality defensive skillset at first base may carry. Donovan Becerra (‘25 New Mexico, ‘26 Texas Tech) One of the more high octane arms anywhere in the country last year. Can reach back for upper 90’s and has shown serious swing and...

2025 Year in Review: Draft

Isaiah Burrows

2025 Year in Review: Draft We’ve reached the end of the 2025 calendar year, and while we’ve already jumped in on the 2026 cycle with some of the fall events and post-draft content we’ve had here at Perfect Game, there’s still one more piece on the docket, and that’s the 2025 Year-In-Review piece here from the PG Draft staff.  The 2025 MLB Draft took place in July, when many highly talented players heard their names called and continued their journey through the game to the next level. There’s already been some of those names making noise in the minors and guys who are moving up prospect lists and becoming names to know for MLB fans digging deep into the future of their organizations. While we are going to “close the book” on 2025 with this article, these players still have many years ahead of them, and many blank pages to continue...

Lucien Saint Cyr, INF, Class of 2026 Commitment: Bucknell Saint Cyr announced his pledge to Bucknell, giving the Bison an interesting blend of present tools and projection. Saint Cyr stands 6-foot-1 and offers room to fill in his medium frame, profiling in the middle infield defensively. The New York product starts wide at the base in the right-handed box, keeping his hands high behind the ear. He works into a subtle outward step load, firing through a compact barrel that showcases bat speed and gap-to-gap impact. For head coach Scott Heather and Bucknell, they land a high-quality Northeast infielder in the ’26 cycle, adding to a class that takes the quality over quantity approach. MVPitcher: Duncan McLeod The uncommitted junior toed the slab in three of the four games for Team Mick, tossing 3 2/3 innings.  Zero walks, zero hits and 6 punchouts for the lefty who was used both as a starter in the series clinching game 4 and he closed out game 3 on Friday in quick fashion.  McLeod was very efficient as well, needing just 42 pitches over all his outings.  In the game 4 start, over two innings he punched out 3, with one strikeout with all of his offerings.  The mid 80’s fastball regularly played up, set up with efficient use of the secondaries, with the breaking ball 73/74 and fading change-up 72-74.   Owen Bone (2026) at it again... 14u Tourney All-American Team

Tyler Russo

Player of the Year: Asher Williams It was an incredible year for Williams that was rewarded with a trip to the 14U Select Fest, before some more impressive play in the fall. He came to the plate almost 250 times in PG tournaments throughout 2025 and reached base in well over half of them, hitting to a .500 AVG while slugging a 14U circuit best 12 bombs and driving in 113 runs. The numbers on the surface are ridiculous, but when you look at the high-level events he put them up in, it makes it even more impressive. Pitcher of the Year: Tristan Blalock Blalock earns this honor after a dominant 2025 where he struck out 85 batters in just 48.2 innings of work with a minuscule 1.58 ERA. This included several strong performances at many national level tournaments and showcases where he was able to bully some of the best hitters in the country. It’s hard not to fall in love with...

PG Draft: Gut Feel Guys

Tyler Henninger
Article Image
While we are nearing the turn of the calendar to the 2026 year, that means we are just inching closer to the beginning of the season for many high school players and college baseball is on the horizon. We are prepping for a reshuffle of the 2026 MLB Draft Board as well here amongst the PG Draft staff. But before we get to that, we sat down and have each picked a couple of players who are in the mix to get selected in a couple of different buckets.  We have prospects who could go into the Top 30 picks or so, prospects who could be selected in the Top 5 rounds, and prospects who could go inside of the Top 10 rounds. With the draft quite far down the road and a lot of re-shuffling to be done as these players play themselves into certain spots on the draft board, our scouts picked some players who fit into these “buckets” who are gut-feel guys. These are the guys that our PG...

Hitter of the Year: Landon Bonner The 2028 class saw many players from across the country take the next step in their development as they entered the High School ranks. There were huge performances from highly ranked players on the PG circuit as well as some under-the-radar guys who burst onto the scene. Landon Bonner came into Sophomore National as a Top 500 ranked player and after an impressive showing, left with all eyes on him as a rankings riser in the class. The left-handed hitting shortstop from The Colony, Texas, had a summer to remember with All-Tournament Team selections in three of his next four events culminating with a historic performance at the 2025 PG 15U WWBA National Championship. The Hebron High School prep went 20-for-24 in nine games for 5 Star Mafia 15U Black with four homeruns and 12 runs batted in. He also scored 17 runs and finished with a mind-boggling 2.500...

16u Tourney All-American Team

AJ Denny
Article Image
Hitter of the Year: Koa Romero is the Hitter of the Year for the 16u group, as he would come to every premier event of the summer and earn All-Tournament honors (Beast of the East, 16/17u WWBA, Jupiter) in every single one. Over 82 plate appearances, Romero would pump ten homeruns with forty two RBI and sixteen walks, good for a .378 average and 1.339 OPS. The performance on volume at the best events of the year pushed Romero over the edge here, as he’d hit a pair of homeruns in Jupiter (one of them at 112 EV) as an underclassmen and collect double digit hits in BOTH WWBA events with a combined six jacks over the two tournaments. It was a summer that combined performance and winning on the biggest stages for Romero. It’s a quiet left-handed swing that packs a punch. He would reap the benefits of his performances, earning a commitment to LSU and jumping to the #74 prospect in...
