Preseason All-American Team

Now that the Preseaseon All-America teams and the Top 25 have been released we are officially locked in for the 2020 college baseball season. Similar to past years Perfect Game will help guide you through the preseason with player and teams rankings, individual conference previews as well as breakdowns of the JUCO, NAIA, Division II and Division III levels of the game.

While that’s yet to come the Top 25 ranking is upon us and starting with the No. 1 team there were several teams in the discussion for the top spot. It ultimately came down to Louisville, a team that reloads from year to year as well, if not better, than any other program in the nation. And that isn’t to say they have much reloading to do with a very talented and deep roster that includes First Team All-American starter Reid Detmers as well as 2019 Freshman All-American Alex Binelas.

We will have more on the No. 1 Louisville on Thursday.

The defending national champions, Vanderbilt, begin the year as the second-ranked team. For as much talent as they’re returning to their pitching staff, including last year’s CWS Most Outstanding Player in now-sophomore Kumar Rocker, two-thirds of the everyday lineup will be brand new.

The Commodores have a lot of parallels to Oregon State from a year ago, another team that was coming off of a national championship with a new-look lineup. And similar to the Beavers, who had the eventual No. 1 overall draft pick and Golden Spikes Award recipient in Adley Rutschman returning to the lineup, infielder Austin Martin, currently the No. 1 overall prospect for the 2020 MLB Draft, will be doing the same for the Vandy Boys.

Six of the eight teams (No. 1 Louisville, No. 2 Vanderbilt, No. 3 Texas Tech, No. 4 Arkansas, No. 6 Auburn and No. 8 Mississippi State) that played in the 2019 College World Series are ranked in the Top 10, and the other two – No. 12 Michigan and No. 14 Florida State – are also ranked to open the year.

We will have more detailed breakdowns of each of the Top 25 teams as part of our robust 2020 college baseball preview content. Stay tuned to Perfect Game between now and the beginning of the regular season for these features as they’re released.

Breakdown by conference:

SEC: 9 teams (Vanderbilt, Arkansas, Auburn, Mississippi State, Georgia, Florida, Mississippi, LSU, Texas A&M)
