Steele is a physically imposing 6-5/215 left handed hitting slugger with big power potential and the kind of athleticism that might even enable him to play some outfield along with first base. He is committed to East Carolina and their storied history of big power hitters.
Cain stands out with his very athletic 6-6/215 build and is a very polished hitter, with present barrel skills and huge power production. He's very athletic around the first base bag and even has a chance on the mound with his low 80's fastball and projectability.
Gentrup has a strong and compact 5-7.175 build with plenty of bounce and body life, including a 6.85 sixty time and the ability to stay in the middle infield. He's very aggressive at the plate with bat speed and gap to gap power that played in the games.
West worked in the 82-84 mph range with his fastball from a low 3/4's arm slot but his best pitch was a mid-70's slider with 2500+ spin rates that completely over matched hitters and enabled him to dominate for three innings.
Harper is a primary pitcher who didn't take the mound at this event but he showed a very loose and fast arm from the outfield in drills and we are looking forward to seeing him on the mound this summer. He also stood out at the plate for his right handed bat speed and loud contact.
Spilliards was the top prospect at the showcase with an outstanding variety of tools that included real bat speed from both sides of the plate, true mid field athleticism on defense, 6.76 speed in the sixty and an 90 mph infield/88 mph pitching arm. He has a very bright future.
Trunck is a quality all around athlete with 6.83 speed and the ability to excel both in the middle infield and in the outfield on defense. He swung a strong right handed bat and showed arm talent on the mound as well.
Helms has a nice combination of tools that play on both sides of the ball. His biggest tool is his arm strength which produced 90 mph throws from the outfield and 86 mph fastballs from the mound. He also has a strong right handed bat.
Luisa was probably the defensive standout of the showcase, backing up his 1.90 pop time in drills by hosing multiple base runners in the games. He's a quality athlete who also ran a 6.99 sixty.
Wallace had one of the best bats of the event and showed his left handed power and bat speed both in batting practice and in the games. His defensive tools at third base are solid, too.
Shirey is a very athletic 6-1/175 middle infielder who also has talent on the mound. He ran a 6.89 sixty and threw 88 mph during infield drills and 84 mph from the mound with outstanding command of his pitches.
Kniesche has a very projectable 6-2/180 build and a right handed bat that already produces plenty of bat speed and gap to gap power. He's going to keep getting better in all areas as he matures physically.
Ammons is a young and slender 15 year old freshman with very good athleticism and some present tools behind the plate defensively. He has a high contact swing from the right side and projects physically in all areas.
