Batting Practice Highlights

3/17/2018

Creed Pierce (2022 C, Cookeville, TN) is a strong 5-11/175 righthanded hitting catcher out of Tennessee and he implemented that strength well into his swing in batting practice. He did a nice job of creating contact out front with some extension and showed nice jump off the barrel when squared, back spinning line drive contact.

Rocko Brzezniak (2022 1B, Matawan, NJ) took the loudest round of batting practice on the day, putting two balls over the left field fence on back-to-back swings. Ultra-physical for his age, Brzeniak looked to impact the baseball with plenty of intent to his swing and solid bat speed coming through the zone with lift out front.

Trent Hodgdon (2021 3B, Smiths Station, AL) is a strong third baseman out of Alabama and his strength is a key component to his offensive approach. Staying simple with his swing and overall approach, Hodgdon generated nice jump off the barrel when squared, creating some solid contact to his pull side.

Bradley Gregory (2022 C, Sanford, NC) put together a nice round of batting practice and offers nice tools at the dish that will continue to improve with some refinement. A lefthanded hitting backstop, Gregory has strength to his forearms and looseness in his wrists while creating steady line drive contact to all parts of the field with extension out front.

Grant Hodge (2022 1B, Little Rock, AR) is strongly built already and does a nice job of staying short to the ball with both his hands and barrel while creating hard contact out front. Hodge gets the barrel through the zone well and worked with a mostly linear path, flashing some lift at times at the point of contact.

Brock Porter (2022 SS, Milford, MI) showed a balanced righthanded swing and did a nice job of repeating his mechanics while finding the barrel. He projects very well physically as he continues to mature and fill out but already shows a natural handle for the barrel while staying on time with his swing.

Matt Heavner (2022 SS, Lincolnton, NC) may not be overly physical at his listed 5-8/135, but the primary shortstop did a nice job of squaring up his contact and working all parts of the field. With a fuller path and quickness to his barrel, Heavner put together a solid round and projects well as he continues to incorporate additional lower half.

Strongly built at a broad shouldered, 5-10/175, Brooks Bryan (2022 C, Opelika, AL) put his quick hands to work from the lefthanded batter’s box during his round of batting practice. Creating some separation out front at contact, Bryan did a nice job of staying short to the ball with simple mechanics and jump off the barrel.

A lefthanded hitting catcher, Gavin Black (2022 C, Bogart, GA) put his shorter stroke on display with an overall easy swing. It’s simple and he repeats while showing a handle for the barrel and occasional lift out front with back spun contact to his pull side.

Graham Smiley (2022 C, Stanley, NC) continued to put together a nice showcase during his round of BP showing solid bat speed. A righthanded stick, Smiley showed a simple swing which produced consistent line drive contact with backspin and will only continue to impact the baseball as he generates additional torque with his lower half.

Mason Balsis (2022 C, Bristow, VA) is a strong looking catcher as he digs into the box and as he continues to unlock his lower half into his swing he’s only going to hit for additional power at the plate. He incorporates his strength well and showed jump off the barrel when squared up out front.

Griffin Stieg (2022 RHP, McLean, VA) put together an interesting round of his own, living in the opposite field gap but got there with intriguing strength. Staying shorter to the ball, Stieg was able to get hit hands out and drive the ball to the opposite field with back spin as he looks to elevate at the point of contact.

Connor Fuhrman (2022 SS, Daleville, VA) shows nice tools at the plate that will only continue to develop as he refines his overall mechanics. A young shortstop out of Virginia, Fuhrman was able to create some whip with his barrel through the zone with nice line drive contact coming off when squared.

Trent Hodgdon (2021 3B, Smiths Station, AL)
displayed a quick bat getting his hands through the zone and finding the barrel going one for one with a triple in the game.

Adam Jamison (2022 RHP, Murfreesboro, TN) had a good outing on the bump showing clean and loose arm pitching three strong and striking out two. His fastball sat 75-77 MPH with late life and mixed in a 66 MPH curveball that flashed tilt.
