Royal Game Highlights

4/10/2022

Carson Crider (RHP, 2026, Wake Forest, N.C.) dominated during his three-inning outing, striking out six hitters, most of those with a fastball that worked in the 78-82 mph range with outstanding cutting life at times.  Crider works from very efficient drop and drive lower half mechanics and has a fast arm from a ¾’s slot.  He also showed nice depth on a mid-60’s curveball but relied primarily on his fastball.

Zachary Swope (SS, 2026, Louisville, Kent.) is a primary shortstop who doesn’t look like he’s spent a lot of time on the mound but he has a strong arm and a potential as a two-way player.  He struck out the side in his one inning of work, relying on a 75-77 mph fastball that had nice carry up in the zone and some sink down in the zone.

Connor Quill (3B, 2026, Leesburg, Va.) showed his bat speed with a line drive to centerfield that easily carried over the centerfielder’s head for a stand-up triple.  That triple scored teammate Jakub Mudd (SS, 2026, Morrisville, N.C.) who had reached earlier on a double to right field.  Mudd came up in his next at-bat and added a second double, this one a blast over the left fielder’s head.

Sebastien Walsh (LHP, 2026, Alpharetta, Ga.) is a primary left-handed pitcher but he has a nice well leveraged swing with a middle of the field line drive orientation.  He lined two clean singles up the middle with hard barrel contact and some jump.

Nicholas Gaines (3B, 2026, Mechanicsville, Va.) has a short and consistent swing that he executed very well, lining two almost identical singles to left field.

Black Game Highlights

4/10/2022

Nick Rumbley (RHP, 2026, Reidsville, N.C.) has a very nice young pitcher’s build at 6-2/175 and a loose and whippy right arm with an extended ¾’s arm slot.  He worked in the 76-79 mph range, with lots of 79’s, and got good sinking life at times when down.  His slider showed lots of promise from an ideal release point for the pitch, sitting at 69 mph with good power and late tilt and bite.

Zane Culler (OF, 2026, Winston-Salem, N.C.) threw harder on the mound on Sunday than he did in drills Saturday, a rarity at showcases.  Culler worked in the 79-82 mph range on the mound from a compact high ¾’s arm slot to go with a 67 mph curveball that hand good spin and shape to it.

Jack McKeller (C, 2026, Rocky Mount, N.C.) had what was probably the hardest hit ball of the weekend in the games, crushing a towering inside the park home run that 2-hopped the right centerfield fence, easily enabling McKeller to circle the bases.  McKeller is a 5-11/170 left-handed hitter with obvious juice in his bat.  He also showed a strong arm behind the plate on defense.

McKeller’s teammate, Logan D’Amico (MIF, 2026, Waxhaw, N.C.) had almost picked up his own inside the part home run earlier in the inning, shooting a line drive up the same right centerfield gap but stopping at third base for a stand-up triple.

Cameron Tarkenton had a nice day on both sides of the ball.  The right-handed hitter sliced a single to right field in one at-bat, rifled a hard ground ball down the left field and finally lined another single to centerfield to show his ability to barrel up the ball to all fields.  Tarkenton also threw two solid innings on the mound, using a three-pitch mix of a 75-78 mph fastball, a 68 mph slider and 71 mph change up.

Hunter Reed (OF, 2026, Point of Rocks, Md.) is one of the more physical players here at 6-2/190 but also one of fastest and most athletic.  He hammered a double into the left field corner that got out to the fence quickly and later shot a hard single out to right field.  Reed was also up to 76 mph in his stint on the mound to go with a mid-60’s curveball.

Speaking of speed, Jordan Bonner (OF, 2026, Wake Forest, N.C.) is the fastest player at the showcase, with a 6.82 sixty time to back it up.  He showed his speed well beating out a routine one-hopper to third base in one of his at-bats Sunday, then really lit it up on the bases with an inside the park home run on a drive over the centerfielder’s head.

Chase Kiker (2B, 2026, Indian Trail, N.C.) was another player from Black that showed his tools all over the field.  Although he’s a primary infielder, he made a nice diving catch coming in on a fly ball in centerfield.  At the plate, Kilter picked up an RBI on a hard single up the middle in one at-bat and lined an RBI double into the left field corner in another.  On the mound, he was up to 78 mph to go with a 67 mph slider from a loose and fast ¾’s arm action.

Cardinal Game Highlights

4/10/2022

Mason Jones (RHP, 2026, Wilmington, N.C.) struck out four during his three innings on the mound and picked up numerous other outs on soft ground balls.  Jones worked from a high ¾’s slot and created lots of downhill angle while working down in the zone consistently.  He showed a full four-pitch arsenal, including a fastball that topped out at 79 mph, a 68 mph slider, 62 mph curveball and 65 mph change up.

Luke Williams (SS, 2026, Lenior, N.C.) is a talented primary shortstop with some talent on the mound as well.  The 5-11/160 Williams worked two clean innings, relying heavily on 77-80 mph fastball that he pounded the strike zone with while creating mostly soft ground ball contact.

Carson Michael (C, 2026, Lexington, N.C.) barreled up the ball every at-bat during the games but only had one hit to show for it.  The left-handed hitter drove a double down the right field line in his first plate appearance Sunday and later grounded out hard to second base.

Jake Hunter (RHP, 2026, Asheboro, N.C.), Ricardo Velez (OF, 2026, Clemmons, N.C.) and Connor Thompson (C, 2026, Virginia Beach, Va.) all put good swings on the ball and picked up clean singles.

Batting Practice Highlights

4/9/2022

Hunter Reed (2026 OF, Point Of Rocks, MD) hits from very spread stance with a well executed hip shift and turn that enables him to get his lower half involved and drive his bat speed.  There is a ton of athleticism and projection in the whole package.

Logan D’Amico (2026 MIF, Waxhaw, NC) hits from a tall and narrow start with a nice shift and turn into contact.  It's a pull and lift approach at present with plenty of bat speed and lots of projection.

Carter Beck (2027 2B, Lexington, NC) has plenty of growing to do from his 5-4/123 frame but his left handed swing is mechanically very sound and the result was pretty much barrels on every swing.  It was a fun round to watch as an evaluator.

Will Holden (2026 OF, Advance, NC) was one of the stronger players at the showcase and that shows in his raw bat speed and ability to create jump off the barrel.  His right handed swing is very closed and rotational at present.

William Radford (2026 C, Snow Hill, NC) has good strength throughout his body and especially in his hands.  He hits under control with good balance and rhythm and consistently hit the ball hard to the middle of the field with some lift.

Cameron Tarkenton (2026 SS, Chapel Hill, NC) was another hitter with a very under control and consistent swing approach that resulted in barrels on almost every swing.  He's going to blossom as a hitter when he adds some strength to his young 5-10/140 build.

Jake Hunter (2026 RHP, Asheboro, NC) had a good day on the mound as a primary right handed pitcher but a good day at the plate as well.  He has quick hands with solid young bat speed and a high contact line drive swing plane.

Carson Michael (2026 C, Lexington, NC) looks and acts like a hitter, with an aggressive, whole body left handed swing that creates lots of raw bat speed.  There are some timing issues to work on but the ball jumped as hard as anyone at the event when he squared it up.

Luke Williams (2026 SS, Lenoir, NC) has a very athletic 5-11/160 build and plenty of right handed bat speed.  The ball came off the barrel hard when he got extended and caught the ball out front.

Jason Andrews (2026 2B, Cornelius, NC) impressed with his all around tools and athleticism all day and his batting practice was no exception.  He drove some balls deep to left centerfield with nice carry and showed the ability to consistently work up to the ball and drive it.

Zachary Swope (2026 SS, Louisville, KY) has an athletic middle infielder's look and a simple and direct swing that works well for him.  He swings hard and shows good bat speed with more to come.

Vincent Pannutti (2026 C, Pilot Mountain, NC) has good young strength in his hands and hips and shows the ability to impact the ball.  His present swing is more inside/opposite field oriented and he projects big power when he learns to turn the barrel out front.

Dylan Amos (2026 C, Leesburg, VA) has a slender athletic build that is going to fill in very well and a loose and extended swing that projects as well.  There is some lift there when he doesn't get stuck on his back side.

3-Royal

Gavin Pacileo (2026, Holly Springs, NC) took the mound in the starting role for Royal in their first game.  He went 3 IP, surrendered 3 hits, 1 run and striking out 1 batter.  He worked mainly off his 66-68 mph FB that grabbed 69 a couple times and induced a lot of soft contact.  His secondary offering was a CB at 58-61 mph with solid depth and played well off the FB.

Jason Andrews (2026, Cornelius, NC) showed some really nice upside in his 1 inning today.  His FB sat in the upper-70’s and peaked at 81 mph with natural cut, running in on LHH and leaving the RHH barrels.  He backed it up with a CB in the low-60’s, adding some dimension to his pitch selection.  He also picked up a single, a stolen base and scored a run for the Royal squad.  There is a lot of projection to this lean, athletic multi-position prospect.

Carson Crider (2026, Wake Forest, NC) showed some of the best bat speed of the day as he smoked a ball through the LCF gap for a standup triple.  The contact was loud, and the ball jumped off his as he turned on the middle in pitch.  He collected an RBI on the hit and later scored on a wild pitch.

2-Cardinal

Easton Tillman (2026, Reidsville, NC) took the mound for the Cardinal going 3 solid innings.  The lean, athletic LHP generated plenty of swing and miss with his FB in the 74-76/77 mph range and his SL in the 63-65 range with nice depth.  He worked at a quick pace, filling up the strike zone and retiring the side in order the first two innings of the day.  He finished his outing with 4 strikeouts, no walks, no runs and surrendered only 1 hit.

Logan Byrd (2027, Latta, SC) was efficient on the mound in his inning of work.  The physical RHP only faced 3 batters, allowing no hits, no runs and collected 1 strike out.  His FB was 70-72 with some hop and flashed a 62-mph horizontal breaker that tunneled well with his heater.

Orlando Adwaters (2026, Arden, NC) worked at a torrid pace as he only required 10 pitches, 7 of which were strikes, to complete his inning of work.  He repeated his delivery well, showed a FB up to 72 mph while living in the 67-69 range.  He also showed a CH in the low-60’s that kept hitters off time and helped his FB play up.

Ricardo Velez (2026, Clemmons, NC) showed some barrel feel as he served a ball into right field for a base hit.  Two pitches later he showed off his footspeed stealing second and eventually coming around to score the first run of Game 2 for the Cardinal team.

Connor Thompson (2026, Virginia Beach, VA) jumped on a 2-strike FB middle in and smoked it through the 6-hole.  He showed quick hands and strength at contact as he picked up the first RBI of Game 2 for his team.

Jake Hunter (2026, Asheboro, NC) got the start in Game 2 for Cardinal and went a very solid 3 IP.  Showing a lively FB in the 77-79 mph range, it played well up in the zone and set the table for his off-speed selections.  He flashed a horizontal SL at 70 mph and a fading CH in the low-70’s, both of which show excellent future potential.  He did not allow a hit and struck out 3 batters on the day.

1-Black

Sydney Dale (2027, Southport, NC) was very good in the starting role for the Black team today, going 3 innings in clean fashion.  The projectable LHP was efficient in his operation today, making his 3-pitch mix a factor in the strike zone.  He surrendered only 1 infield single, no runs, no walks, while striking out 2 batters.  His FB showed some arm-side run, peaking at 68 mph and sitting in the 64-66 range.  He complimented the FB with a CB 53-57 showing vertical shape and flashed a CH in the 54-56 mph range.

Vince Coker (2026, Burlington, NC) got the first hit of the showcase with a loud double that split the left-centerfield gap.  He collected an RBI, putting the Black squad on the board in the 3rd inning.  As it turns out, that would be the only extra-base hit and the only run scored in the ball game.

Cooper Partin (2027, Burlington, NC) looked excellent on the mound in his 1 inning of work.  Facing the minimum and striking out 1, he worked both sides of the plate with his lively FB that sat 72-73 mph.  He also showed the ability to spin the ball, shaping his 62-64 mph SL nicely in the zone and putting more tilt on it to LHH.

Carter Beck (2027, Lexington, NC) had a nice inning of work, retiring the side in order and collecting 1 strike out.  He showed some twitch on the mound and worked primarily off his FB that was 67-70 mph.  He only flashed two breaking balls in the low-60’s but it shows promise down the line.

Hunter Reed (2026, Point of Rocks, MD) put a charge into an inside fastball as he one-hopped the left field wall for a standup 3B.  The physical two-way athlete displayed quick hands and plenty of juice as he created very loud contact.  He took an excellent batting practice today and backed it up with his in-game performance and scored later in the inning.

Logan D’Amico (2026, Waxhaw, NC) was very impressive in his 1 inning of work, showing an electric FB in the upper-70’s and peaking a couple times at 80 mph.  His loose arm produces good life in the zone and had one of the best breakers in the event with his upper-60’s slurve.  It showed both vertical and horizontal movement and he created a lot of swing and miss, striking out 2 of the 3 batters he faced.

Will Holden (2026, Advance, NC) showed the best FB of the day as he grabbed 82 mph multiple times and lived in the low-80’s.  The pitch had obvious high spin as it rode through the zone and produce swing and miss time and again.  He also snapped off one very sharp CB at 70 mph with mostly vertical shape and profiles as a power breaker in the future.  In his inning, he punched out the first two batters he faced and finished off the last hitter with a weak comebacker.  He also shows nice skill with the stick and collected 2 hits and an RBI in the game as well.
