Perfect Game High School Super Showcase

Perfect Game High School Super Showcase

April 21-23, 2023

Urbandale, IA

Once again, the Iowa spring tried to take out another weekend tournament. Luckily, it warmed up just enough to be able to play several games on Sunday. The 18u Division had two teams go 3-0, Alliance Select 18u Black and Dodger Softball. The 16u Division was a tough one and only had one team come out 3-0, the Iowa Outlaws Select 25/26. It was another great day at the ballfields even with the wind and cold!

18u

Campbell German (Cumming, IA 2024) a RHP for Alliance Select 18u Black, found herself on the Top Performers list for both pitching and hitting. German was stellar in her two pitching performances, throwing a combined 20 strikeouts through 10 innings pitched. German works all corners of the plate with a fastball ranging from 58-61mph, she confidently throws several pitches, including her change up and rise ball. The rise ball can be very deceiving as it comes in just below the letters and can be consistently called for a strike but also results in several swings and misses. German only gave up one earned run in two starts. Not only was she stellar on the mound, but she was also a force at the plate. German is extremely confident at the plate, going 5 for 7 and hitting in six RBIs.

Another standout this weekend from the Alliance Select 18u Black team was 2B Brynnly German (Cumming, IA 2024). German, a multi-sport athlete, consistently puts the ball in play and gets on base for her team. German has a nice approach at the plate with quick hands and speed on the bases to go with it. German had 5 hits including a double and triple, which helped her team go 3-0 on the day.

Jaycee Neer (Indianola, IA 2025) C/IF of the Southern Iowa Savage is a 2025 to keep your eye on. She has a sound, confident plate approach, with a keen eye and can barrel up pitches with ease. She utilizes her lower half well, generating a ton of power. Neer hit a tournament high three homeruns on the day, she also drove in six.

Lucy Porter (Fort Dodge, IA 2025) a RHP/UT for Dodger Softball, is impressive to watch. Sitting in the top for both categories she is especially confident in the circle and works very efficiently. Utilizing a five-pitch mix, what is most impressive about her is her curveball which seems to be her go to pitch. Porter’s fastball sits in the 56-58mph range, she is also very effective with her screw ball and her rise ball. Porter is also performed at the plate, totaling 4 hits including a double and a homerun.

16u

Brooke Janning (Blair, NE 2025) a LHP of Nebraska Quakes National 16u has an unbelievable mound presence. With a fastball ranging 59-61mph, what is most impressive about her is her back door curve against right-handed batters. The curve starts in the other batter’s box and literally comes across the plate for a strike. Janning is also a force at the plate, as a left-handed slapper who can hit the gap, Janning has the power to also hit the long ball. Janning had 4 hits on the day. I am excited to watch this young lady progress as she has the ability and confidence to play at the next level.

Mattingly Barnes (Omaha, NE 2024) a left-handed hitter and utility player from Nebraska Quakes National 16u was the weekends Batting Top Performer. Setting up in a wide stance, Barnes has a smooth swing and quick hands to go with it. These skills helped her be successful at the plate boasting a double and two homeruns.

Morgan Byrd (Papillion, NE 2024) of the Nebraska Quakes National 16u and recent Missouri Western commit, is offensively efficient. Byrd, a lead of hitter, has a well-balanced plate approach and uses her lower half well. Byrd is quick around the bases and finished the day with five hits, including a triple and a first pitch leadoff homerun.

Bayla Bodnar (Omaha, NE 2025) C for the Nebraska Thunder Gold 16u has extreme confidence at the plate. Bodnar starts with a slightly open stance and comes together at the pitch, showcasing a ton of power and finished the day with six hits including a double and a homerun.

Izi Juhl (Maxwell, IA 2025) a utility player for Iowa Outlaws Select 25/26 is an RBI machine. Juhl has a well-balanced stance with quick hands and can easily barrel up pitches. Juhl utilizes her lower half well and can generate a ton of power. In doing so, Juhl went 6 for 9, including a double, a homerun and tallied six RBIs to help her team go 3-0.

Another Iowa Outlaws Select 25/26 who was successful on the day was C/IF Chloe Swank (Reasnor, IA 2025). Swank has a confident approach with a solid athletic stance. Swank went 7 for 9, with two doubles and four RBIs.

One is in a Michigan lakeside college town. Two are in places that end in 'ville. All three have coaches who looked at a program and saw something nobody else did. The Perfect Game small school rankings noticed. You should too. March 10 Perfect Game/Player of the Week:  Lorenzo Carrier, OF, Pitt  The Pitt Panthers (12-2) are off to one of the best starts in recent program history and their offense has performed as one of the best in the country.  For the season, they are averaging almost 12-runs per game and on their recent trip to the West Coast, Lorenzo Carrier went on the kind of hot streak that is hard to comprehend.  The 6-5/215 senior from Bear, DE was a one-man wrecking crew in their 4-wins last week, starting with the fact that he reached base safely in 17 of his 19 trips to the plate.  He collected 13 hits in 14 official at-bats, scoring 10 runs, with 4 walks, 2 triples, 4 home runs and he drove in an insane 19-runs.  Carrier has refined his approach, simplified his bat path and is creating massive power that has him putting up career numbers.  For the season, he is...

Collegiate Player Report Database While there will not be any new faces in this weeks Top 25, there is quite a bit of shakeup as the season, somehow, becomes even more unpredictable.  There were several teams in the poll that dropped weekend series and, in some cases, registered losing records in the last seven days.  There is sure to be more chaos this week as virtually every conference starts league play and the race for regular season titles begins.  The UCLA Bruins (13-2) remain No. 1 as their sizzling hot bats led the way to a perfect (4-0) week and they swept their first Big Ten series of the year.  As one of only two remaining undefeated teams in the nation, the Texas Longhorns (15-0) jump to No. 2 before they open SEC play this weekend in Austin.  No. 3 Georgia Tech and No. 4 Mississippi State both (14-2) hold their spots in the poll after both dropped a...

As we get rolling deeper into the spring here in the southern states, other states are only a few weeks away from their seasons beginning and some are even starting the day this will be posted. We’ve concluded the first major event on the high school schedule, the PG High School Showdown, and it was an epic weekend in Hoover. The event was littered with talent and these rankings reflect just that. St. John Bosco (CA) holds onto the first spot in this update and are being pushed by an IMG Academy (FL) team that’s 8-0 after winning the High School Showdown as well as beating two preseason top-10 teams in the first few weeks of the season. Orange Lutheran (CA) holds onto the No. 3 spot after a 1-0 start to the year and just a few weeks away from NHSI. A trio of Florida schools follow Olu in South Walton (FL), fresh off a win at the HS Showdown, Venice (FL), a surging team...
