The top pitching prospect in the Los Angeles/Orange County area is typically one of the most well known and hyped prospects in their respective draft class. There isn't a consensus as to exactly who that prospect is in the 2014 class. Jack Flaherty's polished command and pitchability give him a legitimate case, but Jacob Nix's upside puts him firmly in the conversation. The preference between the two can almost be used as a rorschach to discern an organization's scouting philosophy and preferences.

While Flaherty has a somewhat unique prospect profile in his own right given his two-way skillset, Nix has been far less prominent on the national prospect radar than a prospect possessing his caliber of upside and residing in a high profile area like Orange County typically would.
