The top 25 prospects from the Midwest Top Prospect Showcase in Cedar Rapids are listed in alphabetical order. Players are 2013 grads unless otherwise noted. 

Nick Belzer, RHP, Ankeny, IA HS: A lean, loose righty who projects for more, Belzer was up to 87, sitting 84-86, The Indiana State commit has a loose arm and good command to both sides. His curveball with a 11/5 break is a solid #2 pitch and he also showed a changeup.

Derek Burkamper, RHP, Muscatine, IA HS: A consistent performer over the last two years at PG events, the Nebraska commit sat 85-87 during his outing, throwing on a downhill plane and showing pitchability and present feel for four pitches with an easy delivery.

Alex Cain, SS/RHP, Oregon, IL HS: A long, lean athlete, Cain showed 87 mph arm strength from shortstop with long strong actions. He showed pull pop at the plate with good balance and bat speed. He was also up to 86 on the mound with short arm action and looseness in arm.

Anthony Denkinger, SS/OF, Dowling Catholic HS, Windsor Heights, IA: An athletic player with versatility on defense and bat speed, Denkinger again showed his top level tools as the top position prospect of the event.

Taylor Field, C, Newton Senior HS, Newton, IA: An athletic backstop with excellent receiving skills, Field popped a 1.96 with 76 mph arm strength and also showed a simple, consistent approach at the plate with bat speed and a middle of the field approach.

Chris Halbur, RHP, Carroll Kuemper HS, Manning, IA: Big and strong with broad shoulders, Halbur was up to 88, working consistently in mid 80s with more to come. He is raw with his off speed pitch, but showed a curveball at 73-75, and a changeup at 74-76.

Matthew Johnson, 3B/RHP, Ankeny, IA HS: An interesting two-way prospect, Jonson is a good 3B defender and a power left-handed bat with an aggressive swing, extension and power potential. He was also up to 86 on the mound with a nasty slider at 75-77 that induced many swing and misses.

Ethan Kenkel, RHP/3B, Storm Lake, IA HS: A good athlete who ran a 6.97 sixty and threw 86 from the outfield, Kenkel has big potential on the mound. There is a lot going on in his delivery but he was up to 87 with more to come. He is also raw a right-handed hitter with huge raw power potential.

Colton Lee, RHP/OF, Bradford HS, Kenosha, WI: Lee has showed potential as an outfield in previous PG events but just pitched and swung the bat during the showcase. He was consistently at 87 with lots of fastball run and good arm action on a changeup.

Ryan Lillard, 2014, SS, Urbandale, IA HS: A lean projectable athlete who keeps getting better every time PG sees him. He has a loose, left-handed swing with very good bat control and good balance. He is also a very solid IF defender with arm strength that projects at both positions on the left side of the infield.

Ryan McCourt, RHP/OF, Saint James Academy, Shawnee, KS: McCourt is a bit undersized but showed high level raw tools as a pitcher and an outfield. He ran a sub 7.00 sixty yard dash and threw 89 from the outfield. He was also up to 85 on the mound and a 10/4 curveball.

Keaton McKinney, 2014, 1B/RHP, Ankeny, IA HS: Big and strong, the Arkansas commit was up to 90 on the mound, sitting 87-89. His velo comes easy with good arm speed and a short breaking 10/4 cureball. He is a player with big power potential at the plate with excellent bat speed and extension in his swing.

Ben Miller, LHP/1B, Valley HS, Clive, IA: The Nebraska commit is another top performer in Iowa Leagues and showcases. He topped at 87 after being up to 89 in the past. He has deception in his delivery with his best off-speed offering a 75-77 mph changeup. He also has potential as a position player with bat speed and power potential.

Tyler Mougin, MIF, Prarie HS, Walford, IA: Mougin stood out as one of the top defensive infielders of the event. His actions are easy with outstanding hands, short arm action and a quick release. He is developing strength in his body with his swing is presently geared towards contact to the middle of the field.

Sam Mrstik, SS/3B, City HS, Iowa City, IA: Mrstik has athleticism and showed the ability to handle three infield positions. He has big time potential with the bat as his hands and quick and strong with more power to come.

Zach Patterson, OF, Burlington HS, West Burlington, IA: Patterson is a player who keeps getting better and projects to continue that path. He is athletic, can run and is a good defensive outfielder. He has a good approach at the plate with easy swing actions and pop to the pull side.

AJ Puk, LHP/1B, Washington HS, Cedar Rapids, IA: Puk has had a phenomenal summer and has put his name into the early round discussion for the 2013 draft. He was 85-87 up to 89 after being up to 92 at the Area Code games. He also continues to show high level hitting skills with a loose and easy swing and lots of bat speed.

Jake Reinhardt, RHP/3B, Dowling Catholic HS, Des Moines, IA: Reinhardt is a good looking athlete with long limbs and a very loose arm. He was up to 88 but it is easy to dream on his arm to be consistently in the low 90s in the near future. He is raw with his offspeed stuff, throwing both a low 70s cuveball and 74-76 mph changeup.

Jake Scudder, C/3B, Rock Island, IL HS: Scudder has a strong compact build and is very quick behind the plate with short arm action at 79 mph velocity. He has a very good left-handed bat with strength, a very aggressive approach and a chance to hit for very good power.

Cody Sedlock, RHP/OF, Alleman HS, Sherrard, IL: A lean, projectable arm who was up to 90, Sedlock throws from a high ¾ slot with a fast and loose arm. He also spins it very hard with a slider at 79-81 and a curveball at 74-76.

Mitch Stickney, OF, Linn-Mar HS, Marion, IA: Stickney has loose levers and a lot of projection in his body and is also a very good defensive outfielder. His swing is loose with good quickness and the ball comes off his bat very well. He projects to keep getting better as strength comes in his body.

Austin Stroschein, RHP, Linn-Mar HS, Marion, IA: Stroschein is another player who keeps improving as he fills out and adds strength. His arm works well as he sat 83-87. He has feel for a changeup as well as a biting slider.

James Teague, RHP, Bartlesville, OK HS: Teague was the pop up prospect of the event as he sat 90-92 with a very fast arm, good mechanics and a quick tempo delivery. His slider was one of the better breaking pitches of the event, a 77-79 mph slider with tilt.

Jake Westphal, SS, Sioux City East, Sioux City, IA: Westphal is a gamer with athleticism and is a very strong defensive middle infielder. His feet work well and his release is quick at shortstop. He is an excellent baserunner and has quickness in his bat and a very aggressive swing.

Justin Wyant, RHP, Linn Mar HS, Marion, IA: A thick bodied, strong right-hander, Wyant touched 89, sitting 86-88. He has short arm action and throws on a downhill plane with some late fastball life. He throws his slider at 78-80, and showed four usable pitches.
