The Florida Gators appeared to be in some trouble just a few weeks ago after dropping a home series to Arkansas. However, they're back to playing an excellent brand of baseball, fresh off a pair of good Southeastern Conference series wins over Kentucky and Mississippi State. For that and more, the Gators moved closer to the top spot in the Perfect Game Top 50 rankings, coming in at No. 3 this week.
While the Gators sit at No. 3 in the latest rankings, in-state rival Florida State continues to top the rankings. The Seminoles had a 1-3 week on the diamond, but that definitely is a deceiving record. The Seminoles began the week by losing a bout to Maryland after winning the first two games of the series. They split a two-game midweek set with Stetson before losing the first game of the Clemson series before the final two games of the series were postponed because of weather.
South Carolina sits at No. 2 while Oregon moved from No. 7 to No. 4 after a perfect week. Also worth noting, Baylor dropped from No. 2 to No. 6 after getting swept at Oklahoma, while Louisiana State dropped from No. 3 to No. 7 after losing a tough home series to suddenly red-hot Vanderbilt. Cal State Fullerton, Texas A&M and Kentucky round out the top 10.
Teams that dropped out of this week's rankings include New Mexico State, Washington, Long Beach State and Virginia Tech. Meanwhile, new entrants include Vanderbilt, Auburn, Utah Valley and South Florida, which moved in at No's 44, 45, 48 and 50, respectively.
The PG Top 50 is released each Monday morning during the college baseball season.
