Hoover Classic Scout Notes

Hayes Leach (‘29 MS) has been a thrill to watch here in Hoover, now up to five hits in the tournament as we head into bracket. Serving as the leadoff man for East Coast Sox 2029 Marucci, he holds a really fun profile featuring excellent speed traits with feel to hit gap-to-gap. Often hits baseballs hard on the ground, giving him opportunities to beat throws out. Had three hits with 3 RBI in their 10-run comeback on Saturday. Number two outfielder in the state of Mississippi for class.
 

Enoch Carlise (‘27 TN) went the distance early Saturday morning for L.E.A.D. Ambassador Black Diamonds, tossing seven innings on just one walk and three hits allowed. Working an easy and consistent delivery, Carlise settled in the mid-80s, and up to 86 mph, with the fastball that got some arm-side run through zone. In addition, Enoch often blended a mid-70s breaking ball featuring depth and late action in various counts. A really fun athlete that can play anywhere on the diamond. Number three shortstop in the state of Tennessee for class.


Cy Davis (‘29 AR) is an absolute name to know for the 2029 class. Playing shortstop for East Coast Sox 2029 Marucci, it’s an intriguing 6-foot-3 frame that moves well all around the field. Showed off some quality hacks in pool play, with his barrel path staying on-plane featuring some slight lift through zone. Good arm strength from both sides at the six with range; now up to four hits with four RBI heading into bracket.



Grayson Miller (‘29 AL) wrapped things up in the afternoon on day two with a complete game gem for East Coast Sox 2029 Marucci, allowing only two hits while punching out five. Holding an easy, swift delivery, Miller likes to take the rock and go while filling up the zone and making hitters put the ball in play. His heater lived 84-85 mph and grabbed some 86’s early on, while incorporating a mid-70s breaking ball with downward sweep action. Helped himself later in the game by hitting a first-pitch triple that scored a run also. Definite name to follow within the 2029 class.

John Logan Hooper (2028, Buhl, ALA) turned in a really strong outing on the mound today, throwing a complete 6 inning game while giving up just one hit and striking out 5. He consistently worked both sides of the zone well with an 83 mph fastball and mixed in a low to mid 70s curveball. Had good command throughout the outing and was able to limit hard contact.

John Pruet (2028, Northport, ALA) The leadoff hitter put together a complete all around performance today, going 2-2 with a pair of singles both sent back up the middle. He showed quick hands through the zone, and consistently found the barrel all game. Defensively, is a reliable defender, making the most of the chances he got at both third base and shortstop. Pruet also pitched 1.1 innings, striking two while topping the fastball out at 85 mph. 

Jacob Salley (2028, FL) The righty put together a solid 3 inning start, striking out 5. He worked a low 80s, T84, fastball and paired it well with a low to mid 70s curveball. Salley was able to change speed effectively to prevent hard contact and not let the hitters get comfortable in the box. At the plate, he went 2-2 with a single and a triple both hit to right field.

Jesse Worthy (’28 Alexandar, AL) put on a nice day at bat on Friday. He picked up a solid hit and was able to get home twice. He demonstrates strong upside with his swing as he develops. His frame helps project power that will keep as a major player to watch. 


A good arm on the mound Friday was Ty Nance (’28 Rehobeth, AL) as he was able to reach the upwards of 88 mph. He was very clean on release and filled up the zone, showing the ability to compete from the onset of the outing. 
 
Bowman Dahkle (’29 Trussville AL) was able to be an impact player on both the mound and plate. He started the game throwing in the mid 70s and got an early strikeout. Then his bat was lively today, picking up two hits and making it home four times. He continues to shine early in Hoover.  


Landon Kyle (’28 Birmingham AL) put together a strong all-around performance behind the plate and also at the plate. Defensively, he was solid throughout the game, handling the pitching staff well and providing a steady presence behind the dish. Offensively, Kyle finished 2-for-3, highlighted by a triple, while driving in three runs to help power the offense. His combination of reliable defense and timely hitting made him one of the team's top contributors in the win.


Austin Barnett (’27 Maylene AL), a UAB commit, showcased the physicality that makes him an intriguing prospect. His frame is complemented by noticeable strength, allowing him to generate impressive power through the point of contact without over-swinging. That strength was on full display with a loud, well-struck barrel that jumped off the bat and highlighted his ability to drive the ball. Barnett's combination of a sturdy build and natural power gives him the tools to consistently impact the game offensively.

Another week of Perfect Game baseball concluded as champions were crowned in the 15U, 16U, and 18U divisions of the Southwest Select Championship. After several days of pool play and championship bracket action, three teams rose above the competition to capture tournament titles following a week of high-level baseball. Throughout the tournament, teams from across the Southwest and beyond competed in closely contested matchups, producing standout pitching performances, timely offense, and memorable defensive plays. Florida Burn Cruise to 17U BCS Crown

Ranked fifth nationally entering the tournament, Florida Burn 2027 Scout left no doubt who the best team was at the 17U BCS National Championship. Burn finished a perfect 9-0 tournament, earning an 11-1 semifinal victory before defeating No. 86-ranked Original Florida Pokers 2027 National, 9-1, Tuesday afternoon at JetBlue Park. Burn seized control early and never looked back in a game that ended after the fifth inning per Perfect Game’s mercy rule. Burn carried its explosive offense into the championship game as Braedon Mackay launched a two-run home run in the first inning, giving his team an early 2-0 lead. Mackay’s home run sparked a five-run opening inning, setting the tone for the rest of the afternoon. With the completion of the 2026 13u National Showcase, an event that featured some of the best talent the age group has to offer, 42 players came out with the label of "Festivaler" as they received a phone call shortly after the event concluded. Moving back to the University of Tennessee after a two year stay at the University of Virginia, Ole Rocky Top will see a mixed bag of returners; three-timers, new faces and a couple who bridged the gap from the 11u game into the 13u iteration.  Of the 42 players, 9 players call Florida their home base which is the most of any state while Texas (8), California (7) and Georgia (5) are all close behind nearly three-quarters of the players selected. Jack Postma (2028, Barrington, IL) made an impression in Chicago this week. A 6-foot-5 right hander with a starter pitch mix. Topped out at 93 in his outing at UBC Midwest and pitched at 88-93 for 2 innings on the mound. Slider showed late horizontal bite at its best when finished out front. Change up is a usable third pitch with fading action and ability to miss bats. Clean overall operation in the delivery. Upside with added stability in the arm action. 15u WWBA Scout Notes: Day 1 | Day 2 | Day 3 Mason Conner (2029, Palestine, Texas) was a force in the middle-of-the-order for Gold Culture. The right-handed hitter starts from a medium stance with in-line feet and a low handset with a low back elbow, utilizes a negative leg lift stride. Strides through and uncoils the lower half well and creates separation in the back shoulder. Solid hand speed with a flat bat plane and feel to leverage and lift. Impacts the ball well with feel to impact and drive. The shortstop showed the power upside belting a two-run homer over the fence in left field and added a two-RBI knock later in the game. The 21st annual 16U BCS National Championship returns to Fort Myers, Florida from July 23-27, bringing together many of the nation’s top 2028 graduates. The tournament features 44 teams, including six nationally ranked clubs, competing for a national title across five days of high-level competition. Year after year, the event has served as a proving ground for elite talent. Coppy's Corner: July 21 Summer Edition

The amateur players in the Cape Cod Baseball League are the future stars of the 2027 MLB Draft. The league runs from June 13th through August 2nd. Games are played at historic stadiums in Old New England towns. It’s beautiful and charming. Hollywood even made a movie about the Cape Cod League ~25 years ago called Summer Catch. It scored an 8% (!) on Rotten Tomatoes, but, on the plus side, it featured 2001 Jessica Biel in a starring role.  It was so much fun writing Coppy’s Column this spring. My hope is to highlight a pitcher and position player each week from the Cape. FTB National Completes Elite Run

Championships are never won in a single game. For FTB National 2027, this one has been in the making for years. An 8-0 victory over Team Elite 17U Scout capped off an unforgettable week at the 2026 Perfect Game 17U National Elite Championship, but according to those inside the dugout, the championship was a product of friendships formed long before the tournament ever began. FTB took their first national elite win in team history, giving one of the nation’s top 2027 teams an elite ending to their 17U summer. “This is a homegrown group,” head coach Will Haynie said. “This team has been together for the last four or five years, and I think a lot of them have been together since the Little League World Series when they were 12.
