May 25 Regional Rankings

Florida

Our final Florida Regional Rankings have three state champions at the top. Archbishop McCarthy, winner of the 4A State Title top the list, followed by 3A champ Bishop Verot, and 5A champion West Boca. 4A runner-up Tampa Jesuit is 4th; with 6A champion Alonso coming in 5th.

One new addition is made this week with 2A champ North Florida Christian at #14. The Eagles upset Orangewood Christian to win the title, Orangewood drops to #7 in the rankings, preceded by Flanagan, ahead of preseason National #1 Gulliver Prep.

Great Plains

The Great Plains region has a drastically different look this week, with champions crowned in Nebraska (#5 Papillion-LaVista South, #18 Gretna) and Colorado deep into the playoffs those states are less represented than Missouri who is still early in their playoffs and have yet to see many top teams get knocked off.

St. Louis Uni (MO), Maize (KS) and Maple Grove (MN) hold the top three spots with a combined record of 63-0. Francis Howell (MO) is at #4 and will face St. Louis Uni on Friday in a brutal second round draw for both sides. That matchup is likely to produce a state champion.

New additions this week include: #9 Liberty (MO), #10 Webb City (MO), #12 Raymore-Peculiar (MO), #14 Boonville (MO), #16 Highlands Ranch (CO), #18 Gretna (NE), #19 Lawrence (KS), #20 Ozark (MO), #22 Stockton (MO) and #23 Savannah (MO).

Mid-Atlantic

With the North Carolina playoffs down to four teams per class there is a lot of movement in our Regional rankings as the top three ranked teams in the state were upset. Ardrey Kell, Providence, and Pinecrest all fell in the playoffs, paving the way for Holly Springs and Southeast Guilford to be the highest ranked teams in the state at 3 and 4.

South Carolina wrapped up their tournaments last weekend with St. James claiming the AAA title and the #1 spot in the Regional Rankings, while AAAA champ Sumter comes in at #6.

Undefeated South County (VA) is #2, while fellow undefeated Westminster (MD) and Dinwiddie (VA) are at 12 and 15.

Ashley (NC) makes their debut at #20, Bennett (MD) at #21, and preseason #4 Forsyth Country Day (NC) is back in the regional rankings at #17 after winning the NCISAA 3A title.

Midwest

Providence Catholic (IL) continues rolling and is up to #20 in the National Rankings as well as the top spot in this week’s Regional Rankings. Cathedral and Lawrence Central (IN) are two and five, while Steubenville is the highest ranked Ohio team at #3.

Two top ten Ohio teams face off this week when #6 Moeller takes on #7 Vandalia Butler in the Division 1, Region 4 semifinals. The other four spots in the top ten are claimed by Illinois teams: Plainfield North is #4, Lyons Township #78, St. Laurence #9, and Nazareth Academy #10.

New additions this weeks are #20 Strongsville (OH), #24 Jonathan Alder (OH), and #25 New Albany (IN).

Northeast

Not much change at the top as the regular season winds down in many of the Northeast states. Don Bosco (NJ) remains undefeated and tops the rankings. They are followed by Peters Township (PA) who has not lost to a Pennsylvania team this year, and a trio of New York teams, Poly Prep, George Washington, and Monroe Campus.

Two Pennsylvania teams are next at 6 and 7, Neumann Goretti and Council Rock North, followed by a pair of New Jersey squads, Gloucester Catholic and Manalapan. Lexington (MA) is the highest ranked Massachusetts team at #10.

New additions this week are Malvern Prep (PA) at #24 and Lincoln-Sudbury (MA) at #25.

Northwest

Not a lot of changes this week as the playoffs are just getting underway in Washington and Oregon; most of the top seeds have taken care of business in the early rounds.

Idaho finished up their season and 5A champion Eagle joins the top 25 this week at #20. #3 Southridge (OR) has had the most impressive early run of anyone in Oregon to this point, though they remain a spot behind Westview (OR) who won the head to head series two games to one. As the middle and later rounds of the playoffs in the two top states in the region progress there should be some major shakeups in the region’s rankings next week.

Pacific

A couple of highly ranked teams became the latest victims of the depth of talent in the CIF playoffs. Previous #4 JSerra lost in the second round of the Southern Section Division I tournament 1-0 to #15 Dana Hills yesterday, and fall to #24 after a disappointing end to a successful season. An even more shocking development was Mountain View St. Francis’ first round loss as the top seed in the Central Coast Section Division I tournament, they fell from #5 to #25.

Dana Hills enters the rankings this week, and while a victory over a very talented JSerra team is surprising, it should be no surprise that last year’s runner-up in this tournament is a contender yet again. LaVerne Bonita also debuts at #20 followed by Sacramento Jesuit at #21.

Southeast

As the season winds down the top of our list is full of team who have won championships or are just a step away. Marist and Columbus are two wins away from repeating as AAA and AAA Georgia champs, #3 New Orleans Jesuit took home the Louisiana 6A championship last weekend, and #4 Farragut (TN) looks to be on track for another state crown.

Baton Rouge Catholic is #6, followed by Sumrall (MS), recent winners of their fourth straight 3A title and Alabama 6A champion Huntsville.

Other champions on the list are #13 Spanish Fort (Alabama 5A), #15 Petal (Mississippi 6A), #17 Conway (Arkansas 7A), and #25 Livonia (Louisiana 5A).

Southwest

Spanish Fork (UT) continues to hold onto the top spot as they advance through the Utah 4A playoffs, they will have to win out to maintain that spot though as #2 Bishop Gorman (NV) won their sixth consecutive Nevada State Championship by steamrolling through the playoffs.

Utah is the lone remaining state in action in the region, with five teams from the state currently in the top 25 with a chance to influence the rankings. #1 Spanish Fork, #21 Bingham, #23 Snow Canyon, #24 American Fork and #25 Juan Diego are all still alive in the Utah playoffs.

Texahoma

A few surprising upsets in the Texas playoffs have caused a lot of change from #5 on. The Woodlands was perhaps the most surprising loss, falling from #6 down to #21. #11 St. Thomas Catholic won the TAPPS 5A state championship for the second consecutive season, and the fourth in the past five.

#3 Fort Bend Clements takes on #8 SB Memorial in the 5A Region III semi-final and will be a highly intriguing series. It’s a very tough draw for both teams as Memorial is under seeded because star C Wayne Taylor missed most of the regular season returning from an injury. But the Mustangs are a very different and very dangerous team with Taylor in the lineup; it will be fun to see them match up with Clements, the top ranked team in the state.

New additions this week include: #14 Klein, #15 Brazoswood, #16 Klein Oak, #20 CC Moody, #22 Alexander, #23 SA Churchill, #24 Wakeland and #25 WF Rider.

Tristan Barton (‘29, TX) has struck out three over three scoreless innings of work, getting a lively FB up to 89. Mixed in a sharp vt CB w/ late bite. Operates from a projectable RH frame w/ length + room to fill. #NatElite @Texas_PG pic.twitter.com/LXfkLOtxdo — Perfect Game Scout (@PG_Scouting) July 5, 2026 Tristan Barton (’29, Gunter, TX) turned in a strong start on Sunday, lasting four innings of one run ball, striking out four. Barton operates from a bigger lengthy right-handed frame with considerable room to fill. He starts with a mid-body handset before working to the belt and into a high compact leg lift. Barton fires down via a compact arm action and high three quarters slot. The Texas native got a run/ride fastball up to 89, living in the mid-80s throughout the outing. He mixed in a sharp 12-6 curveball with vertical depth and late bite. Jack Graviss...

Nolan Ash (2028, Ashland, Mo.) showed off the power upside for Natty State 2028. The right-handed hitter starts from a spread stance with in-line feet and a high handset with a high back elbow, utilizes a leg lift stride. Creates separation and uses a direct hand path with a slightly uphill bat plane and some feel to generate lift from the lower half. Quick hands and stays in-sync with a rotational lower half and solid bat speed. Showed the power belting a solo bomb over the left field fence. Long and lean 6-foot-2, 175-pound frame with wiry strength present and more room to fill. The shortstop has a high ceiling and feel for the barrel. Colton Dodds (2028, Columbia, Mo.) showed off the barrel feel and power upside for Natty State 2028. The right-handed hitter starts from a wide base with in-line feet and a high handset with a high back elbow, utilizes a no stride trigger. Direct hands...

Coppy's Corner: July 7 Summer Edition

John Coppolella
Article Image
It’s an exciting time for College Baseball. Not only do potential and proposed changes to the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) elevate the game, but we are coming off a thrilling College World Series and less than a week away from Major League Baseball’s 2026 Amateur Draft. In the middle of it all is the Cape Cod Baseball League.  The amateur players on the Cape are the future stars of the 2027 MLB Draft. The league runs from June 13th  through August 2nd. Games are played at historic stadiums in Old New England towns. It’s beautiful and charming. Hollywood even made a movie about the Cape Cod League ~25 years ago called Summer Catch. It scored an 8% (!) on Rotten Tomatoes, but, on the plus side, it featured 2001 Jessica Biel in a starring role.  It was so much fun writing Coppy’s Column this spring. My hope is to highlight a pitcher and...

13u World Series Notes: Days 1-2

Perfect Game Staff
Article Image
Michael Wedgeworth (2030, Flomaton, AL) had put the two way ability on full display so far this week, dominating from both sides. On the mound Wedgeworth ran the fastball up to 84 (81-83) with ease to the delivery. Broke off a couple nasty curveballs that induced swing and miss, as well as freezing hitters for punch outs. Collected six in his four inning complete game. He also would not be denied at the plate going 3-5 in the first two days with two doubles. Very intriguing young player as the body continues to grow.  Tyler Bellush (2031, Summerville, SC) is a sure handed shortstop for the Canes Nation squad. Swings it from the left side of the plate and the barrel accuracy has really stuck out thus far. 3-4 through the first couple days with a double and two triples, Bellush has also walked twice and collected 3 RBI along the way. Yesterday against USA Prime with the bases loaded,...

Oliver Lindstrom (2028, Green Bay, WI) created some of the loudest offensive moments of the weekend while producing across the board, finishing with six hits, eight RBI, and a home run. The right-handed hitter showed the ability to stay through the baseball and drive it with authority. Creates quality leverage through the lower half while arriving in strong hitting positions early, allowing the barrel to work with intent through the zone. The blend of power, athleticism, and all-fields impact stood out throughout the event.  Dominic Haigh (2028, South Bend, IN) was one of the most productive hitters at the event, collecting 10 hits while consistently creating pressure on opposing defenses. Made life difficult on pitchers with a relentless approach, routinely extending at-bats and forcing them to work deep into counts. The operation remains simple and efficient, featuring an early...

West Region Rankings Risers: Class of 2028

Joey Cohen
Article Image
After a heavy stretch of early summer looks, our scouting staff felt confident rolling out an updated ‘28 national ranking a couple weeks ago. The evaluation window was packed whether it was with our Memorial Day and Summer Kickoff tournaments, UBC action, Sunshine Showcases, and of course the Junior National Showcase which all provided a deep and diverse look at the class against strong competition. Between fresh game evaluations and updated showcase data, we were able to get a clearer picture of where players stand and more importantly how they’ve progressed. Improvements in strength, athleticism, and overall skill were evident across the board giving our staff real conviction when it came time to shuffle the board. With that in mind, I wanted to highlight a handful of west region prospects who made a strong impression on me this summer and earned a well-deserved jump in...
