New WWBA/PG Computer Guru and other Projects, plus this weeks WWBA Profile

WWBA NOTES -- Friday, February 20 The WWBA and Perfect Game recently hired their first full-time computer guru, Tim Barcz. Tim is very familiar with the WWBA/PG operation, having helped with the web sites and internal computer operations of the company while a contractor with a computer firm in Cedar Rapids. Tim can’t claim a baseball background but he is a competitive triathlete, which means he’s stronger and in a lot better shape than any of the rest of us. Tim is jumping in right away on adapting the WWBA website to a number of new functions that will debut this spring. Among his priorities are: -- Creating a scheduling system for the site so that teams can easily enter their entire schedules prior to the season. As teams update their results, they would be displayed on the WWBA site. The scheduling system would also enable us to post scores from Tournaments faster. -- Organizing the structure for WWBA event statistics so that they are available immediately after events and need less editing to be accurate. -- Creating more functions for each team’s home page to better serve the WWBA membership. -- Making it possible for WWBA member teams and coaches to rank the top teams in the country and the top players in the country. -- In addition, Tim has been working with the PG/WWBA business staff to open an on-line store for all PG/WWBA equipment, clothing and other materials If you have any ideas on the website and its functionality and features that you would like to see addressed, please feel free to contact us at admin@worldwoodbat.com. We’d appreciate hearing from you. “WHAT ARE SCOUTS LOOKING FOR?” Another area that we would like your feedback on regards a publication that PG/WWBA plans on producing in the next few months. The working title is “What Are Scouts Looking For.” By “Scouts”, we’re not just referring to professional scouts working for Major League teams, but also college recruiters and the scouts for PG/WWBA. This is an area that we are constantly getting questions about from parents and players and we have a pretty good idea how to handle the broad range of topics that need to be addressed. Still, we would appreciate hearing any and all feedback you might have about what you want to see explored and explained. Please email us at admin@worldwoodbat.com with your thoughts and suggestions. We plan to have the publication available for purchase both on-line and at all Perfect Game/World Wood Bat events. This Week’s World Wood Bat Member Profile………. THE LOUISIANA ALL-STAR BASEBALL CLUB The Louisiana All-Stars are based out of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. They were originally founded as an American Legion team in Gonzales, Louisiana named “All Star Ford” in 1988 and advanced to the National American Legion Championships their first two years in existence and four of their first five. The original coaches and founders of “All Star Ford” were Wade Simoneaux and Fran Andermann. Chris Counts, the Louisiana All-Stars current coach, was hired as an assistant in 1992. The All-Stars switched their name in 1992, moved to Baton Rouge and became affliated with Connie Mack in 1992. They immediately advanced to the Connie Mack National’s in 1992 and finished 6th in the country. The program went into hibernation in 1995 after Simoneaux was named assistant baseball coach at Louisiana-Lafayette. Simoneaux is currently the head coach at Louisiana Tech, where Andermann is his assistant. Counts revived the program in 2000 and was able to immediately regenerate its prior successes. The Louisiana All-Star Baseball Club has finished as high as 3rd place at the National AAU Championships (2002) and recently was a bracket champion and quarterfinalist at the 2003 WWBA/PG/BA World Championship in Jupiter. Counts’ full-time job is as the Head Baseball Coach at Episcopal High School in Baton Rouge. Counts played college baseball at King College in Tennessee and later received his Masters Degree (Kinesiology) from LSU. He is assisted by Victor Brumfield, a former LSU baseball player who is also Counts’ assistant at Episcopal HS. A stunning total of 100 former Louisiana All-Star players have gone on to play 4-year college baseball, with another 34 having moved on to Junior College programs. 22 former Louisiana All-Star players have played professionally at last count. The team has nine players on their 2003 roster who have committed to Division I programs, along with a couple more likely DI players who did not commit during the early signing period. Those nine are: INF Ben Soignier (West Monroe HS) Alabama LHP Ryan Byrd (Denham Springs HS) LSU RHP Blake Johnson (Parkview HS) LSU OF Trey Simon (Destrehan HS) LSU INF Chase Fontaine (Nease HS, Florida) Texas LHP Jordan Thibodeaux (West Orange Stark, Texas) Oklahoma C Chris Simmons (Dutchtown HS) Army OF Griffin Horridge (Rummel HS) SLU OF Taylor Faul (Barbe HS) McNeese The Team’s big event during the summer is when they play host to the 32-team All Star Classic June 10-13th. The Classic is held at Alex Box Stadium (LSU), Southern University and quality high school fields in the Baton Rouge area. Among the teams that have already committed for the 2004 Classic are: Team Florida USA, Bama Bombers ’05, Houston Heat, Atlanta Blue Jays, South Texas Sliders, Columbia Angels, League City Hornets and Austin Slam. It promises to be a great way to start off the summer season. Looking forward to next year, the team may have one of the top groups of young left handed pitchers in the country, if not the best. The quartet of Beau Jones (Destrehan HS), Sean West (Captain Shreveport HS), Wade Miley (Loranger HS) and Jeremy Bleich (Isadore Newman HS) is going to be very difficult to beat in any series or tournament and Coach Counts promises that there will be more quality pitchers joining the four. The Louisiana All-Star Baseball Club has numerous sponsors that are integral in helping the program. They include: All Star Baseball L.L.C Mizuno USA Russell Athletics Barnstable Bat Company McDonalds of Baton Rouge Gerry Lane Enterprises Diamond Tank Rentals Holiday Inn South of Baton Rouge If you’d like more information on the Louisiana All Star Baseball Club, please visit their website at http://www.eteamz.com/laallstar/. It’s a quality site and full of plenty of interesting and helpful information.

Performance Baseball Rolls On

Championship teams often reveal themselves when the game isn’t going their way. Performance Baseball 2028/Milwaukee Brewers Scout Team did exactly that. Trailing Florida Burn 2028 Scout through four innings, the Brewers refused to panic. Instead, they relied on timely hitting, consistent pitching, and an unselfish approach at the plate, rallying a five-run fifth inning before pulling away for a 9-5 victory to clinch their spot in the semifinals. The comeback was fueled by contributions throughout the lineup. Six different players drove in runs, including two RBIs each from Aiden Capobianco and Cameron Massey, while Matthew Heredia, Parker Weston, Ethan Smith, and Aj Bonnette each added an RBI of their own. On the mound, Derek Wenzel set the tone with 3.2 solid innings before Ethan Smith shut the door in relief, helping preserve the comeback victory. Although the Brewers have had a...

From the opening pitch, JK Select controlled the pace of the game. The offense jumped out early, scoring 6 runs in the 1st inning after timely hits from MVP Sean Shindo and Kade Manarpaac. The early lead gave the pitching staff confidence as they worked efficiently through the opposing lineup. “I've worked hard to get better at my game for the past few months; it means a lot that I did well and performed in a tournament like this” said Shindo. Starting pitcher Maddox Prones turned in a strong performance, allowing 3 runs while striking out 5 batters over 3 innings. The defense backed the effort with great plays in the middle infield, preventing GBG Vegas from building momentum....

On the second day of the 2026 Perfect Game National Elite Championship, one swing turned heads across the ballpark. The next one brought everyone to a stop. With Wow Factor Nation 16U trailing midway through its matchup against Sandlot Scout Team 2028, Micheal O'Connor launched a solo home run to spark the offense. Just one batter later, Aaron Frink stepped into the box and sent another ball over the fence, delivering back-to-back home runs that quickly became one of the most talked about moments of the tournament’s opening days. Parents gathered along the nets, players from previous games stopped to watch, and college scouts turned their attention toward the action as the two towering swings energized the crowd and brought new life to the game. Although Wow Factor Nation ultimately lost 5-3 after a hard-fought performance, the back-to-back home runs served as a reminder of the...

17u WWBA Scout Notes: Day 1 | Day 2 | Day 3 | Day 4  Day 5 | Day 6 Shea Corona (2027, Brooklyn, N.Y.) showcased some loud stuff out of the bullpen for MLB Breakthrough Series 2027. The New York native and primary shortstop topped out at 93 with the fastball, sitting comfortable in the 90-92 range. Corona paired it with a sharp and tight slider at 81-83, staying on the same plane until late. The pitch plays well already and the delivery is very athletic. The uncommitted right-hander went three scoreless and was in the zone plenty, striking out two while not allowing a walk. '27 SS Moises Gudino (FL) continues to stay red hot, working a long AB & cracking an oppo 2B on the 8th pitch. Flames Natty used timely hitting and a dominant start from Beau Collier to defeat NLB American 7-3 and capture the 18U BCS National Championship on Monday at Lee Health Sports Complex. Despite being assembled just hours before the tournament began, the Flames quickly developed chemistry throughout the tournament. “This team was put together 12 hours before this tournament, and they went on a crazy run,” head coach Adam Vasquez said. “These kids know each other locally, but they don’t play together. For them to come together last minute like that, it’s crazy. I’m proud of them for that.” The game opened as a pitchers’ duel, with David Acevedo recording the lone hit through the first two innings. NLB American starter Hayden Graham kept the Flames in check early, allowing just one hit while striking out one over 2.0 innings. The right-hander...
