Reed Continues to Prove He Belongs

For many young players, competing alongside some of the top talent in the country can be intimidating. For Chris Reed, it is simply another opportunity to prove he belongs.

The Conyers, Georgia native has established himself as one of the premier players in the 2030 class, currently ranking No. 24 nationally and No. 7 among shortstops according to Perfect Game. Reed’s game has consistently stood out against elite competition thanks to his athleticism, instincts, and all-around skill set.



That ability was on full display during the 2025 Perfect Game 13U National Showcase, where Reed earned his invitation to the PG Select Festival, one of the most prestigious events available to players his age.

“It showed that I can play with the best of the best, and that I belong,” Reed said of the experience.

The event provided more than just exposure. It also reinforced an important lesson that continues to shape his approach on the field.

“Don’t try to do too much, you’re good enough,” Reed said.

That confidence has translated into success at every level. Reed’s profile is highlighted by advanced defensive actions at shortstop, a quick and accurate arm, and an offensive approach that allows him to consistently impact the baseball from gap to gap. His combination of athleticism and baseball instincts has helped make him one of the most complete middle infielders in the country.

For Reed, however, shortstop is about more than just making plays.

“All the action and being the leader of the infield,” he said when asked what he enjoys most about the position.

His leadership extends beyond his individual performance. Team Elite Scout 14U entered the tournament this weekend with four players ranked inside Perfect Game’s national Top 100, creating one of the most talented rosters in the field. Rather than viewing those rankings as pressure, Reed sees them as motivation.

“It’s just that we are in it together and we are helping each other to succeed, and you know we feed off each other’s energy,” Reed said.

That chemistry was evident in Team Elite’s opening game of the tournament, a 17-1 victory that showcased the depth throughout the roster. Mark Hamlin threw for three innings while allowing only two hits, and Ryan Johnson followed with two scoreless frames in relief. Offensively, six different players drove in runs as Team Elite’s lineup consistently applied pressure.

The performance served as an early reminder of why Team Elite entered the event as one of the top teams to watch.

For those seeing Reed for the first time this weekend, he offered a simple description of what they can expect.

“Special. I am a small guy, but I have big tools to offer.”

It’s a statement that reflects on the confidence Reed has built through years of competing against elite competition. Whether it’s making plays at shortstop, producing offensively, or leading one of the most talented teams in the country for 14U, Reed continues to prove that impact comes in many forms.

As the summer progresses, Reed’s goals remain ambitious. After earning a PG Select Festival invitation last year, he hopes to return to the event once again.

“Going back to Select Festival again and being able to play that back-to-back would be amazing,” Reed said.

Before then, however, Reed and Team Elite have another goal in mind.

“Win the championship,” Reed said. “We won last year, so we are trying to run it back this year.”

With one of the nation’s top shortstops leading the way, Team Elite Scout 14U appears well positioned to do exactly that.
