PG ID Camps Help Youngsters Build a Baseball Resume

There was still snow on the ground in a lot of places last weekend, but that didn’t stop more than 200 young players from going indoors to participate in the first round of Perfect Game Select Fest ID Camps for the 2026 season.

John McAdams, PG’s national crosschecker and Northeast scouting director, ran the event in Farmingdale, New Jersey, and was impressed with his group’s energy and desire to improve at the game.



“We’re giving young players the opportunity to build their baseball resumes and chart their growth and progress over a span of years,” he said.

In addition to New Jersey, Select Fest ID Camps were held in Lake St. Louis, Missouri; Rossford, Ohio; Marietta, Georgia; and Kent, Washington.

The ID camps debuted in 2025. Twenty-two of them were held around the country with nearly 700 young players attending. The events were so well received that 79 of them -- with the possibility that more could be added -- are on tap for 2026 and registrations have already surpassed last year’s total.

“This is an evolving platform that will only continue to get better,” said Gary Wilson, PG’s senior operations director and national director of events for the Northeast. “We’re very excited about it and so are the kids.”

That was evident at five locations last weekend. More than 200 players attended.

The Select Fest ID Camps are for players age 9 to 12. The camps can serve as a preparation for future PG showcase events, but they are not really showcases. Those are for older players looking to catch the eye of a college recruiter or pro scouts. These Select Fest ID Camps are one-day testing events in which a young player can begin to compile a data-based record of his baseball skills that can be used as a baseline for training and improvement. As the years pass, the player will end up with a data-based baseball growth chart that he or a college or pro scout can review.

“We’re not necessarily trying to get the kids exposure,” Wilson said. “We’re trying to allow them to get their metrics and be measured with other kids of the same age. Without the facts, you can’t really move forward. This gives them the facts.

“It’s really a progressive thing. We don’t want it to be a one-time thing. When you’re 10 years old, we don’t want you to get your 40 time and that’s the last 40 time you get. We want you to come back to one of these events when you’re 11 or 12 and put your new numbers against your old numbers and see how your training has paid off.”

At a Select Fest ID Camp, skills are measured with state-of-the-art technology. These skills include running speed at various on-field distances, bat speed and exit velocity. Throwing velocity is measured for defenders and pitchers. Players take batting practice and do defensive work. There are aged-based leaderboards at every event and metrics are displayed on a player’s PG profile page. Top performers are featured on PG “watch lists’ and on PG social media accounts. Everything is geared toward collecting information and having fun on an age-appropriate field – while wearing a colorful PG shirt.

“The metrics not only allow players to see where they stack up amongst their peers,” McAdams said. “They help the player create goals to get better. When they see the numbers, there’s context to them. They can work on their game to better those numbers and everything is charted on a progression graph.

“So, let’s say you’re looking at fastball velocity. A 9-year-old kid might throw 48 miles per hour. At 17, that same kid might be in the All-American Classic throwing 98. With the progression graph, you can see everything in between. A college recruiter can look. That progression graph might show a kid throwing 82 as a sophomore and 92 as a senior. The kid has obviously grown from a physical standpoint, but he’s also put in a lot of work and trained the correct way to add 10 miles per hour over two years because he was able to get context from the metrics collected over a period of time.”

It's all part of putting together a baseball resume. And it all starts at a PG Select Fest ID Camp.
