Best Game I Saw 

I was able to scout a ton of great tournament games out west in my region, but my overall favorite was a Jupiter playoff game where I was able to take in some high-level talent that’s outside of my area. It was a Round of 32 matchup between the Reds Scout Team and Hawaii Elite 2G National. It was a back-and-forth affair where the Reds ended up taking over late for the victory. It’s a game I tend to go back to a lot because of the amount of first time player looks I got that I ended up becoming big fans of after. Prospects like TJ McQuillan, Dylan Bowen and Jack Brenner were very impressive that day at the plate and broke out in big ways that whole week. Hawaii players Noah Sham, Taye Marxen and Kaikea Patoc-Young also got on my radar after their performances, and they definitely elevated their prospect stock within Hawaii and Nationally. 

Best Tournament Performance 

It was a smaller four game sample, but the offensive week that Jack Leeper had at the UBC West this past summer continues to come to mind when thinking about some of the better tourney performances I took in. He was 9-for-13 where seven of those nine were of the extra base variety. He cemented himself that week as a clear T100 player, and that continued into the rest of the summer and fall circuit with many other strong showings. There is a lot to like with the way it looks in the box. He’s an advanced athlete with present strength that uses a simple and balanced swing operation where he creates good angles in the path allowing him to frequently hit it hard and drive it in the air. Simply one of my favorite players in the ‘27 class. Stanford commit. 

Favorite Single Game Moment

This shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise as anyone who was at PG National this year remembers Savion Sims’ outing where he hit a 100 with the fastball three times in his two-shutout innings of work. The 6-foot-8 righty came out pumping fuel within a relatively balanced and repeatable operation down the mound where he didn’t appear to exert any extra effort than what we’ve seen in the past to reach that velocity.  His slider and changeup were quite effective that day as well to go with his plus heater. He further cemented himself as one of the premier arms in the class after that outing that I probably will never forget. 

Biggest Showcase Breakout Performer: 

Colton Fitzgibbon got on our staff’s radar at the UBC West but he firmly put himself in the T100 national conversation after his standout showcase performance at the West Academic in Arizona. He ran an absurd 6.26 60-yd dash where his double plus speed then translated into the OF with athletic actions to and through the baseball along with an advanced arm for his level getting off 90 mph accurate pulldowns. Then he followed that up with a loud batting practice where he displayed serious bat and hand speed within his twitchy left-handed stroke where there’s no doubt in my mind he’s going to seriously impact the baseball sooner rather than later. It was one of those showings where you knew you were seeing something special as it was happening. Entered as a #500 rank that day and is now the #76 player in the '28 class. 

Pick To Click

Elyjah Mason’s only 2025 PG tournament appearance was also at the UBC West and it wasn’t a strong one, but I’m still buying stock in the 6-foot-3, 170-pound uber athletic shortstop. It’s real actions on the dirt where the athleticism really shines with his quickness, footwork and glovework. Then it’s a smooth and whippy left-handed stroke where his overall offensive skill has continued to get better and better with several indications of that during s strong HS fall ball season. I’m betting on a breakout spring season from him at Huntington Beach where he’ll get significant looks from our scouting staff all season long.

Perhaps one of the best games I saw all year was the playoff matchup between Lovejoy and The Colony back in May. Trey Rangel and Logan Corley both toed the rubber going head to head in a matchup in what was unforgettable for both of them. Corley ended up going 10 shutout innings while striking out 11 batters. It was one of the best performances you will see at this level in a do or die game. He held a good lineup in check and gave his team an opportunity to win the game as it went 12 full innings where Lovejoy took the lead and held it then. Rangel on the other hand went 7 shutout innings while striking out 12 batters in this same game. The arm talent for Rangel is obviously as electric as it comes and it was on full display this night. He competed all game with Corley which made it a night to remember. One of the biggest games of the year for me and the pitching match up was as good as it gets.

Both Hudson Browning and Clyde Williams III had all time performances at the Ultimate Baseball Championship South this past Summer and worthy of reminding everyone what they did. This was the first year of the UBC in Texas and it did not disappoint. Hudson Browning more than held his own helping his team make a big run winning the championship. He finished the tournament hitting to a 529 average and belted 4 home runs to go with it across 7 games. He also drove in 11 runs and was an absolute unit on both sides of the ball. Power to all fields with strong ability to impact the baseball was on full display all week and one we did not forget. Clyde Williams also performed at a high level in this same exact tournament as he hit 588 on the week that included 3 home runs while driving in 10 runs. Williams has long been known as one of the better bats in Texas, but the power certainly came around this Summer against high level competition. He can really drive the ball line to line with absolute authority and the bat to ball is impressive. His UBC performance along with Browning’s did not go unnoticed.
 

Biggest Showcase Breakout Performer

There were quite a few players that stood out in showcases this year for me but perhaps the 2 most prevalent that come to mind and have shot up our rankings because of it are Cullen Scott and Ethan Johnson. Cullen Scott was up to 90 at the Sunshine South Showcase earlier this year and the velo has continued to tick up. He has good off speed that continues to improve as well. He can also really hit with power projecting the best for him in the box. Just a guy we saw at a showcase and performed well on the circuit as well. Ethan Johnson, on the other hand, recently stood out at the Lone Star Showcase this past Fall where he worked up to 90 off the bump with good off speed to go with it. He stands in at 6-foot-3 and has the starters look once he continues to add strength and fill out more. He should be a big name on the radar moving forward.

Jackson Wooten is as tooled up as it gets and would not be surprising to see him really put it all together this year. The speed is undeniable as he is a plus runner across the board. The bat-to-ball ability is impressive as he hit to a 389 average this year across 36 games with 19 stolen bases. He also hit 4 homeruns, and I think more power is coming when it’s all said and done. We are talking about a potential 5 tool guy here with strong ability on both sides of the ball. Wooten should be taking a big jump this year and is my pick to click. He also recently committed to Kentucky.
