Head coach Butch Thompson and co. had a wealth of success in ‘25, due in part to their success recruiting and playing underclassmen early and often. In a world where the transfer portal has taken over and older, more experienced collegiate performers are slotting into lineups in favor of talented young freshmen, the Auburn Tigers have done a fantastic job of finding a healthy medium. Names like Chase Fralick, Chris Rembert, Bub Terrell, Andreas Alvarez and Christian Chatterton were all freshmen that made a big impact for the Tigers last year.  Because of this, the Tigers are consistently securing the commitments from some of the most talented prep players across the country. Everything culminated in ‘25 with Auburn’s first home Super Regional in program history and coach Thompson signing a contract extension through at least 2031. This is the third year straight that the Auburn program has been inside the top ten for our college recruiting rankings, and the trend will more than likely continue with this staff at the helm. 

Coleman Borthwick is the headliner of this group, and is a legitimate 2-way prospect at the collegiate level with big raw juice at a corner position and a legitimate mix on the bump. He sits in the 92-95 band on his fastball with the feel to spin the breaking balls. He’s ultra physical at 6-6/255, and provides tremendous value and projection for Auburn if he makes it to campus. There are a plethora of up the middle athletes on the dirt committed  in this class, with Jace Mataczynski, Deacon Nelson, Levi Nickoli, Guy Lynam and Tate Johnston making up the list. It’s a toolsy, athletic bunch of 6’0+ athletes that should have every chance to stick up the middle should they earn the spot on campus, all with good offensive upside as well. Matthew Kerrigan and John Stowers round off this position player group of commits inside the top 200. Stowers looks to be a lock to stick behind the dish at the next level with budding bat to ball skills and a line-drive stroke, and Kerrigan comes to campus bringing a reliable hit tool that should translate early in his collegiate career. Parker Granse and Wyatt Shelley are inside the Top 500 and round off this position player group in the class. 

As far as arms go, the Tigers are bringing in strictly right-handed arms right now with a strong bunch of names nationally ranked from 168-271. There’s a trio of peach state arms amongst this group with Ty Tillery, AJ Rice and Ty Mobley making their way to campus. Tillery is a crossfire low to mid 90’s arm with some pitchability and angle, with good physical projection. Rice has some of the better spin in the entire ‘26 Georgia class, another arm that can pound the zone with three for strikes and eat up innings. Mobely is towering at 6’7/248 and can also pound the zone with his mix and low 90’s heat. It’s an exciting group of arms that can all compete for innings early and often. Moving up to the Great Lakes region and the Mid-Atlantic, Carson Liedel and Nicholas Bradley round off this group of committed right-handers in this class.

From Florida to Wisconsin, this Tigers program have recruited another top ten class to develop. Skipper Butch Thomspon has been poaching high upside talent from the high school ranks and reaping the benefits early in their collegiate careers. It’s a bit of a well oiled machine right now down at Auburn, and the upside in the coming years for this program is pretty significant. Don’t be surprised if they are inside the top 10 in ‘27 as well. It’s a good time to be a fan of Auburn baseball.

2027 Top 100 Draft Board  Current Favorite: SS Dylan Seward, Norco HS (Calif.) In our first iteration of the 2027 Draft Board, Norco shortstop Dylan Seward ranks No. 1 overall. The switch-hitter is an ultra-twitchy player with a lot to like on both sides of the ball. He is a supreme athlete that should stick up the middle. Explosiveness is shown in all aspects of his game and gives the profiles big time upside.  In the event that Seward does not go 1:1, each member of our draft team selected a player that they think could wind up in that spot. Fifty-Four teams, competing across three divisions in the 14u - 18u age classifications opened up our Fall schedule playing in a five game showcase style format. Year in and year out when the best young talent from across the country is packed into one national-level event the arms tend to win the week. That feels especially true in today’s amateur game where velocity, pitch design and high-level training in general are being introduced earlier than ever, allowing young pitchers to develop impactful stuff at a faster rate than younger hitters can consistently catch up to it.
