Iowa Spring League Notebook: No. 5

PG Iowa Spring League Notebook: No. 1 | No. 2 | No. 3 | No. 4

Anthony Harrington (2026, Lost Nation, Iowa) looked the part this weekend. He worked 85-87 mph on the fastball in his outing on Friday, showing good arm-side life to it. He flashed a low-70s curveball with 12-6 shape and depth to it as well. He looked the part on the mound. He also swung it well from the right side of the plate. He has a wider base with a simple leg lift and trigger working into it. He has good hand speed and strength to impact the ball, and added plenty of hits this weekend. Harrington is currently uncommitted.  



Hunter Hill (2027, Dubuque, Iowa) has an uber-projectable 6-foot-4, 190-pound frame that projects really well with good length in the frame and room to keep filling out moving forward. Hill had a handful of extra-base hits, finding ways to impact the ball well. He shows a loose stroke with good whip to the hands and a feel to be on plane. He worked the upper-70s on the fastball in a brief outing, filling the zone and navigating to induce outs. There is tons of projection remaining in the profile. Hill is currently uncommitted.  

Jaedin Swain (2027, Davenport, Iowa) added a ton of hits this weekend, continuing to stack together good performances. He impacts well and shows a ton of feel to be on the barrel. It’s a quick stroke with some bat speed and feel to leverage and be on the barrel. He has hit really well this spring, and he was able to tally 6 more hits, including 3 more doubles for his Iowa Select Ferrell team. He’s got a real projectable frame and was also able to work up to 80 mph on the fastball in a quick relief outing this weekend. Swain is uncommitted.  

Ryley Lawler (2026, Dubuque, Iowa) had a loud finish to PG Spring League, hitting really well through the last two weekends. He did it again this weekend, adding a handful of hits, with some extra-base hits mixed in. He stays short to it with a really quick and compact stroke, finding the barrel and creating good leverage. He impacts it well and finds ways to pump the ball into the gap and do damage. Lawler has a really smooth swing, finding ways to deliver the barrel quickly and stay in the zone for a long time. Lawler is uncommitted.  

Maddux Mueller (2026, Amana, Iowa) finished off his spring with a really impressive performance at the plate once again. He added a half dozen more hits. He showed a feel for the barrel and was able to impact it with a really easy swing. He has a smooth left-handed stroke with feel to be on the barrel and drive the ball to all fields. Showed good hitterish actions as well, driving the ball to left field for a double, and a hard-hit backside knock deep in the count to plate a run. Mueller knows how to hit and has a really good clue to get it done in the box. Mueller is currently uncommitted. 

Adam Bowman (2026, Iowa City, Iowa) put together a really good outing on the mound on Friday. He came out and pitched a really quality inning for his team, working 85-87 mph on the fastball. He gets some life and can elicit whiffs at the top of the zone. He also flashed a low-70s curveball with good shape and depth to it. He located well and was able to mix pitches to keep the opposition guessing. Bowman has a quick arm working through release and plenty of whip that shows. It’s a high-level operation on the mound, and he remains one of the better uncommitted arms in the ‘26 class here in Iowa.  

Owen Hicks (2025, Iowa City, Iowa) finished off the spring with a quality performance, on both sides of the ball. On Friday, he came out and worked 82-85 mph on the fastball, showing good sinker traits to it. He also flashed a high-tilt 10-4 shaped slider working 74-77 mph with good depth to it. He was able to induce the swing-and-miss, and get it done at the plate. Hicks got it done in the box too, adding a home run and several other hits. He has an upright right-handed stance with quick hands and a feel to impact and drive the ball well. There’s a clear feel to work uphill and lift, creating good leverage. Hicks has been a red-hot bat this spring. He’s committed to the Colorado School of Mines.  

Michael Friedman (2025, Cedar Rapids, Iowa) has been lights out this spring, and this past Friday was more of the same. Friedman worked 80-84 T85 mph on the fastball, with some feel to spin in the 1,900s. The pitch gets some life to it, and he can run it arm-side to keep the opposing hitters off-balance. He also showed a curveball working the 66-69 mph range, showing good 11-5 shape and bite to it. It has a good downhill break that can induce the swing-and-miss. He also has a changeup in the 73-74 mph range to attack hitters with. He has a projectable and physical 6-foot-2, 190-pound frame. He gets it done at the plate as well, with a loose stroke and good strength in the hands to impact and drive it well. He shows some barrel control and has put some good swings on the ball this spring.  

Mason Waterbury (2025, North Liberty, Iowa) put together a good outing on the mound on Friday, going three strong innings for his team, looking the part. He mixed three pitches for strikes, induced whiffs, and was able to roll up groundballs for weak contact. Waterbury worked 80-84 T85 mph on the fastball with good arm-side life to it. He showed a low-70s breaking ball in the mix as well. His best off-speed pitch was his changeup, working 74-77 mph with good diving depth and feel to kill spin. He got a lot of whiffs and bad swings on the changeup. Waterbury cruised through his outing. He’s a Southeastern commit.  

Nathan Kirouac (2024/25, Barrie, Ont.) showed good stuff during his outing on Friday for the Team Ontario Astros. He worked 84-88 mph on the fastball, with a lightning-fast arm and a ton of speed through release. He was able to show some life on the fastball and found ways to hunt whiffs up. He flashed a slider in the low- to mid-70s, up to 77 mph that had a high-tilt 10-4 shape to it. He was able to manipulate the shape and break to it, shortening and lengthening as necessary. Kirouac also showed a harder changeup working 80-82 mph with some straight depth to it. Kirouac is committed to USC-Lancaster.  

DJ Mazzaferro (2026, Uxbridge, Ont.) put together a really good outing on Saturday where he came out and working 84-87 mph on the fastball with an explosive move working downhill. The pitch gets some good life to it as well. He also shows a slurvy breaking ball that works 72-74 mph with good high-tilt shape and depth to it. Mazzaferro also flashed a changeup up to 77 mph with good diving depth. He’s got strength in the frame and he uses it well as he works downhill and pushes down the slope. Mazzaferro looked the part for the Team Ontario Astros this weekend.  

Jackson Feggi (2026, Oro Medonte, Ont.) was another good arm for the Team Ontario Astros this weekend. Feggi worked the uper-70s on the fastball, getting into the low-80s with some life to it. He has a lean build with some projection there and a clean arm action working down the slope. There was good feel to work through release and replicate it. He also showed a mid-60s breaking ball in the mix, with slurvy shape and depth to it. Feggi also got it done at the dish with some impressive swings on Sunday, tallying a couple of doubles and being able to work on the barrel and impact it well. Feggi is a Pratt CC commit.

Adrian Krupka (2026, Toronto, Ont.) threw on Saturday for Team Ontario and worked 80-83 mph on the fastball from a higher slot, with a smooth delivery working down the slope. He also flashed a mid- to upper-60s curveball with hard-biting 12-6 depth to it. He mixed it in well and flashed a changeup to go along with it, giving him three pitches to attack the opposition with. Krupka put together a good outing, navigating the opposition well and he was able to induce quick outs and get the job done. Krupka is uncommitted.  

Andrew Kobryn (2025, Newmarket, Ont.) was one of the Team Ontario Astros hot bats this weekend. The left-handed hitter with a strong and physical 6-foot, 185-pound frame was consistently able to work on the barrel and do damage offensively. He has a smooth stroke with a ton of strength in the hands and feel to impact with good barrel whip and some jump off of it. Kobryn was able to tally a handful of hits this weekend, including a few doubles. The Charleston (WV) left-handed bat was able to really take some quality at-bats this weekend.  

Alexander Graham (2024/25, North York, Ont.) held things down near the middle of the order for the Team Ontario Astros, showing a ton of feel to create leverage and do damage with the stick. He has a massive and physical 6-foot-3, 215-pound frame with a ton of feel to work on the barrel and show good strength off it. He makes an aggressive move to contact with a shorter stroke and good feel to be on the barrel and hammer pitches all over. Graham has plenty of strength and was able to piece together some solid at-bats this weekend. Graham is a SUNY-Niagara commit. 

Cael Kluever (2026, Charlotte, Iowa) put together a really impressive outing on the mound, looking every bit of the part with a sturdy and strong 6-foot-3, 215-pound frame. He worked 82-86 T87 mph on the fastball. The pitch gets good angle and arm-side life working from a higher slot. He also flashes a really good curveball working 68-72 mph with quality 11-5 shape and bite to it. He mixes in a harder changeup working 74-77 mph with good fading depth. Kluever sequences well and is able to find ways to beat the opposition. He has also swung it really well this spring, adding hits and showing feel to use his strength to his advantage in the batters’ box. Kluever is uncommitted. 

Fletcher Yates (2025, Cedar Falls, Iowa) put together one of his better outings this weekend on Saturday. He has a massively physical and strong 6-foot-6, 215-pound frame with an imposing look on the mound. He commanded well on Saturday and worked 88-91 T92(x2) mph on the fastball, spinning it above 2,300 RPMs. The pitch had some life to it as well. He also flashed an 11-5 shaped curveball in the mix, working 74-77 mph with spin above 2,500 RPMs. The pitch had good depth and he landed it for strikes. He also showed a firm lateral cutter working 80-83 mph, which really helped bridge the arsenal. Yates also flashes the occasional changeup. He commanded well and filled the zone in a dominant 4.0 inning outing, punching out 7 opposing hitters along the way. Yates is a Kirkwood commit.  

Benjamin Nichols (2026, Cedar Falls, Iowa) put together a really good outing of his own while working out of the bullpen after Yates’s outing, Nichols worked 84-86 T87 mph on the fastball, he reached back to grab 87 mph twice, showing good arm-side life to it. He works from a higher slot. Nichols also showed a breaking ball working with 11-5 shape and depth. The pitch worked 73-76 mph with spin above 2,400 RPMs. He also has a legit forkball in the mix, he flashes it 74-77 mph with really good straight depth and drop to it. Nichols can mix well and has an uber-projectable 6-foot-6, 195-pound frame with plenty to like moving forward. Nichols is currently uncommitted.  

Henry Adam (2027, Richland, Iowa) has swung a hot bat this spring, but this past weekend he was really impressive and continually found ways to end up on base and drive the ball. Adam tallied 3 more hits, after 5 last weekend, carrying him to a .483 average on the spring. He has a really lean and compact frame with a smooth left-handed stroke. He has a spread base with a quick stroke and feel to whip the hands through it. Adam is a top of the order type bat who projects well moving forward and wrapped up Spring League, in a loud fashion. He’s currently uncommitted.  

Brooks Mitchell-Birdsell (2027, Atkins, Iowa) is an athletic frame and 6-foot-1, 175-pound frame with a lot to like in the build. He swings it from the right side with a spread base, high hands, and a quick stroke. He lifts the leg and strides into it with good feel for the barrel. He whips the hands through contact well and was able to tally hits. He has swung it well this spring and brought his average up to .406 on the spring with a couple of extra-base hits with 15 RBI to his credit. Mitchell-Birsdell is uncommitted. 

Jeter Lewis (2027, Cedar Rapids, Iowa) has swung it well this spring and this weekend he continued to add to his hit total with a couple of quality swings in an offensively-packed game. Lewis has a compact but athletic medium build with a good left-handed stroke. He has a spread base with higher hands. He lifts the leg and strides into it with good hand speed and some whip through it. He impacted well and was able to drive the ball well, picking up a couple of extra-base hits adding to his spring total. Lewis is currently uncommitted.  

Gavin Ready (2028, Asbury, Iowa) has a compact and athletic frame with some traits that project well. Ready continued to hit well, getting it done again this weekend, tallying a couple of hits. He has an athletic stroke with some looseness and good balance throughout. He whips the hands with some feel to connect out in front and drive the ball out in front. He picks up hard-hit line drives all over the field and continued to get it done this weekend. 

Quinn Flanagan (2028, Asbury, Iowa) has a spread base, with high hands, and an aggressive move working through contact. There’s some projectable traits in the box here and he gets it done with a smooth stroke and some feel to impact it. He produced some well-struck barrels. There’s plenty of feel for the barrel that projects moving forward. Flanagan also worked 78-81 mph on the fastball with good arm-side run to it. He showed an upper-60s curveball that has sharp bite and depth to it. There’s a lot to like on both sides of the ball here moving forward. 

Liam Thompson (2028, Atkins, Iowa) was really impressive on the mound in his outing on Saturday. He worked up to 79 mph with plenty of arm-side life to it. He also showed a mid-60s breaking ball with slurvy shape and good depth to it. He has long levers throughout a lean frame that project well moving forward. The long levers translate well to his release with plenty of whip and feel to work from a higher slot. He moves well down the slope and mixes two pitches well. Thompson has a ton of projection throughout the frame and with his stuff. There’s going to be plenty to like here moving forward. 

Collin McClintock (2026, Fairfax, Iowa) has an athletic frame and medium build, with a 6-foot-1, 185-pound build that projects really well. McClintock worked 83-86 T87 mph on the fastball with some arm-side run. He showed an upper-60s curveball in the mix as well with good 11-5 shape and bite to it. McClintock spotted up the fastball really well, with an athletic move down the slope, with feel to replicate the arm action and delivery. He had a heavy dose of fastballs, but was able to put together a good outing. He also swings it well with good strength off the barrel and feel to impact, he gets it done at the plate often and was able to do so often this spring. McClintock is currently uncommitted. 

Jacob Pierro (2028, Dubuque, Iowa) has a compact frame and build with some strength throughout the projectable build. He worked up to 90 mph on the fastball twice, and mostly worked the 85-88 mph range with a four-seam look to it, but showed a more sinker-profile working 82-85 mph. The pitch induced some swing-and-miss working up in the zone. He flashed a curveball working 67-72 mph with 11-5 shape and depth to it. He also flashed a harder changeup working up to 80 mph. Pierro certainly made some noise with his performances this spring. 

In one of the games Saturday, there was a plethora of barrels, showing a ton of offense on both sides. There was plenty of extra-base hits to go around, but the highlight was the four home runs that were hit. Landry Haberichter (2026, Burlington, Iowa) started things out with a home run that he torched working pull-side. He showed good quickness with tons of strength off of it, to leave the yard and pick up the home run. Dawson Goad (2027, Cedar Rapids, Iowa) followed things up, answering back with a home run of his own. He lifted one and lofted it deep to left field with good strength off of it, picking up the homer. Rex Komenda (2027, Robins, Iowa) picked up a homer later, with a ball that got out in a hurry. He showed some feel for the barrel, catching it out in front with good impact strength, hammering one working backside to the gap, to leave the yard and add the homer. Lance Ludens (2025, Mediapolis, Iowa) had the last laugh, adding a homer late in this game. He showed good strength off the barrel, with feel to connect and impact it out in front. He left the yard on the home run, making it four homers total in this game. Ludens is also a Central College commit.

Twenty-Four teams arrived in Springfield for the opportunity to showcase some of the best talent in the midwest. After 3 pool play games,  the field was split and seeded into either the Platinum or Gold Division to begin bracket play.  With several highly sought after young arms on display, it was Indiana Magic Gold 16U Carroll and Indiana Magic Gold 14U National making it into the Platinum Division Championship, and through a mutual agreement, they decided to end the tournament as Co-Champions. A few weeks into the season and the shape of the national picture is starting to emerge (slightly, let’s get too silly about early results). Some preseason favorites are humming exactly as advertised, a few dark horses are pawing at the gate, and a handful of early contenders are discovering that February optimism and March reality are not always the same thing. Across DII, DIII and the NAIA, pitching staffs are setting the tone, offenses are either detonating or recalibrating, and the Top 25 is already beginning to feel less theoretical and more earned.   DII UT Tyler is performing as predicted with a 12-2 start that includes a series win at Angelo State. The Patriots’ offense has not exactly been knocking the cover off the ball, but the pitching staff has been stingy, holding opponents to a .228 batting average.  They have not faced a ranked opponent yet, but...

Another strong week for many of the top teams in junior college baseball. Walters State put together another undefeated weak and sticks in the top spot for the 3rd consecutive ranking. Chipola on the strength of a 20-1 start has established themselves early as one of top teams in the country. Johnson County put together a 2nd consecutive undefeated week and moves into the top 5 with a 15-1 overall record. They will play 4 games against #22 Iowa Western this week who is also coming off an undefeated week. Fresno City (15-0) and Midland (13-0) are two undefeated programs to begin 2026. They have gone from not in the preseason top 25 to the top 15 in our rankings in less than a month. And welcome to the PG Juco Top 25 Cloud County (KS) who debuts at #23 and is coming off a huge 3 game sweep on the road in Texas of a previous top 10 program in our rankings. BURLINGTON, IA - Perfect Game February Frenzy, February 20-22, 2026.  Twenty-two teams, representing five states, rolled into town for the opportunity to compete in this pool play, then into bracket play, with four games guaranteed,  in both a 14u and 18u division. Taking home top honors in the 14u division was Midwest Sluggers 11, who held off a late charge by the Black Dragons , winning 7-5. In the 18u division, it was Nebraska Gold 319 Berning topping Iowa Gold Prospects 4-0, avenging a pool play opening, 1-0 loss. We’re only about 24 hours away from the 14th PG High School Showdown and as we get closer to one of the premier events on the high school schedule, we look ahead to what we’ll see in Hoover. The teams and players are what make this event special along with the environment with scouts packing the stands for this event. As with every year we’ve run this event, there are sure to be names called in the upcoming MLB Draft along with big time contributors at the college level. Fastball got up to 2500 RPM showing subtle tail at times. It plays firm and gets in on hitters quick. Locates fastball well at times. He went to a change in the 85-88 range as his bread and butter secondary killing spin with good dive. Change produced 5 whiffs. He also mixed in a slider in the 80-85 getting upwards of 2500 RPM with it. Slider tight and sharp when around it. Also flashed a curve at 79.
