PG Draft Spotlight: Patrick Forbes

Physical/Delivery

Forbes is a wiry, but well defined body type and fits the mold of a starter with decent amounts of lean mass. It’s a longer body with limbs and high-waisted but has put on added size with legitimate scapulas. It has not hindered his athleticism at all as his delivery is simply electric. He has a short gather and rocker geared toward the first base side of the rubber. From his 6-foot-3 build, he has a low 5-foot-4 release height and a ton of external rotation and gets onto a super lead leg at foot strike. He generates a good amount of extension and pushes off the mound with intent. Simply put, Forbes is a dynamic athlete that gets out front and is tough to pick up out of the hand. He can sling it and is a pretty incredible mover in space. 

“Tools”

Forbes has first round arm talent, simple as that with a high octane arsenal that features two distinct fastballs and breaking balls. The four-seam is a 70-grade offering in the making with its shape and velocity. He opened the season sitting 93-96 mph range and getting up to 98 mph with an average Vertical Approach Angle of -3.8 from a low release height. It’s a true flat four-seam fastball that eats up in the zone and is one of the best fastballs you can find in the class with its high end VAA that garners a ton of whiff and chase. He also features a 92-95 mph sinker that gets upwards of 17 inches of run and an average of 15 inches, also having a VAA of -4 and plays steep and flat. It gets a ton of action at the top of the zone. His slider is a true out pitch, averaging 2,575 RPM with real sweep and over nine inches of horizontal break in the 83-85 mph range. It has sweeper-esque qualities and real bite and projects as a plus offering. He also features a high-80s cutter that has some serious east-to-west action as well as a real fading changeup but both offerings can use some polish. Most importantly, Forbes’ ability to command such high octane stuff has been downright impressive. He’s lowered the walk rate to start the year while keeping both the K and whiff rate at well above-average levels. He’s mowed down some Power 5 lineups and will be tested throughout the year, but his ability to throw strikes at all four quadrants with his movement profile has been a huge trajectory to his starter floor. The ingredients are all present with a high octane arsenal. 

“The Buzz”

Forbes is well working his way firmly into the Round 1 discussion after his showing so far. The stuff has played at Team USA over the summer and has only amped up in 2025. His approach angle stands out but the ability to command and miss bats upstairs or down and away has been one of the more impressive abilities in Forbes’ skill set. He’s commanding the baseball at a high level and controlling the zone with tempo, the stuff is high end and there is a ton to dream upon at the next level. He’s a competitor who wants it in big moments and has the capable stuff to live up to his high ceiling as a middle-to-top of rotation billing. Don’t be surprised if Forbes is one of the early arms off the board as the college pitching crop is really opening eyes and he’s atop that list. 

Summation
Unique with power, it can boil down to that. Forbes fits the billing with a unique and distinct vertical approach on two high-90s fastballs that force a ton of life and whiff upstairs. He has two breaking balls and spins a sweeping slider that shows every bit of an out pitch and plus in its own right. Combined with just how hard he throws from a low release height and the metrics he possesses, Forbes is one of the highest ceiling arms in this class. He’s off to a torrid start and commanding the ball at a high level so far, which only helps build his case as a top-end starter that logs innings. The stuff is simply high, high end with good shapes and movement profiles from an innate athlete on the hill who lives up to some big moments.

SOUTHWEST REGION (AZ, NM, NV, UT, CO)  The most dominant tool in the Southwest Region for the 2026 season is undoubtedly power at the plate, as most players featured below not only have the size and bat speed to drive the ball but have put up the numbers as well.  While that isn’t exactly surprising given that virtually the entire region plays at elevation, it certainly stands out on the individual top prospects.
