Stoneman Douglas Wins Another National Title
Now very much a household name around the high school baseball world, and one of the most consistent programs in the country, Stoneman Douglas rattled off their third consecutive state title in Florida’s 7A Class and did so by going a casual 29-0, an impressive feat given the obvious levels of talent in the state, especially in the largest classification. They were led in a number of ways by now-graduated Christian Rodriguez, the National Pitcher of the Year for 2023, and while they had a number of players head off to college, they bring back another strong group in 2024.



High School Showdown Continues to Show Off
With 2023 being the 11th year of the High School Showdown, the history of it has gotten rich and it just continues to be one of the premier events in the country for the high school space. This past year was no different as 10 teams that played in the event finished the year ranked in the Top 50 nationally, with a handful of state champions littered throughout the field. IMG Academy (No. 3), Oxford (No. 13) and Archbishop McCarthy were the champions of the three brackets, all beating tough competition in their journey. The field of players included multiple All-Americans from the Class of 2023, as well as 7 guys that went on to be PGAAs this year. In the short 3-day event, we saw almost 40 different arms throw 90+ and over 50 home runs, showing the high-level nature of the players/teams playing in the event from top to bottom.

#3 Overall Pick Headlines National Players of the Year
It was a good year for accolades for those picked for the National POYs out of the high school season as both Max Clark, the National Player of the Year, and Bryce Eldridge, the National Two-Way Player of the Year, were drafted in the first round, while the new awards of the National Underclass Player and Pitcher of the Year went to Cade Brown and Landon Victorian, who both went on to be selected to the All-American Classic in August. Christian Rodriguez, mentioned prior, led Stoneman Douglas to a National Championship while winning National Pitcher of the Year honors. The standout numbers for these guys selected for these awards were as follows:

Christian Rodriguez | 12-0, 70 IP, 0.69 ERA, 117 K, 13 BB
Bryce Eldridge | 11-0, 53 IP, 1.30 ERA, 88 K + .422 AVG, 9 HR
Cade Brown | .486 AVG, 1.562 OPS, 14 HR, 52 RBI, 43 R
Landon Victorian | 8-0, 50 IP, 0.97 ERA, 80 K, 4 BB

Looking Ahead to Another Big Year
As we get ready to turn the page to 2024, the dive into creating preseason lists like the National Top 50, state rankings, regional dream teams and much more has begun. We’re under 2 months from the start of the high school season in many areas, which means we’re also about the same away from the first pitch of the 2024 High School Showdown, which looks to be pretty loaded in both the team and player aspect. While we celebrate the accomplishments of the high schools from 2023, this next year looks to be a good one in a number of different areas in the country.

Perfect Game Softball Winter Warm Up Burlington, IA Jan 30-Feb 1, 2026   BURLINGTON, IOWA- 23 teams across two age divisions converged onto Fun City Turf last weekend to compete to be the Winter Warm Up champions. In the 18U division, the Iowa Nationals 18U came out on top in a hard-fought game, defeating the Iowa Gold Prospects 2-1. On the weekend, several athletes stepped up big for their teams and below we highlight some of the top performers of the tournament.   18U Division   Julia Roth (2026, Dubuque, IA) of the Lady Expos Blue was one of the most effective hitters of the weekend. DEEP SOUTH REGION (AL, LA, MS, TN) The Deep South Region is absolutely loaded with position talent and would certainly have a chance to outscore any of the other Regions in a straight offensive battle.  And this trend doesn’t look like it’s going to change soon looking at the 2027 and 2028 classes for the Region. All the starting lineup, for instance, is made up of Perfect Game All-Americans if you excuse the recently re-classified Will Brick.  That leaves a pair of Louisiana All-Americans, Miller Sheets and Braylon Montgomery, out of the starting lineup.  Also missing is another re-classified player, Alabama shortstop Rocco Maniscalco, who has been talked about as a potential Day One draft in 2026.
