Perfect Game Softball Winter Warm Up

Burlington, IA

Jan 30-Feb 1, 2026

BURLINGTON, IOWA- 23 teams across two age divisions converged onto Fun City Turf last weekend to compete to be the Winter Warm Up champions. In the 18U division, the Iowa Nationals 18U came out on top in a hard-fought game, defeating the Iowa Gold Prospects 2-1. On the weekend, several athletes stepped up big for their teams and below we highlight some of the top performers of the tournament.

18U Division

Julia Roth (2026, Dubuque, IA) of the Lady Expos Blue was one of the most effective hitters of the weekend. She finished her weekend batting .583, tallying seven hits, four of them being home runs. Her power was on display, and she came in clutch multiple times, driving in nine runs for her team. This right-handed hitter showed great composure in the box, working counts, and making defenses earn every out. She drew three walks and scored nine times. She has a fantastic barrel path to the ball and has incredibly fast hands. She showed great ability to stay behind the ball, driving the ball up the middle multiple times. Roth also produced for her team in the circle, pitching 9.2 innings and striking out 15 batters.

Alex Mohlke (2027, Polk City, IA) of the Iowa Gold Prospects proved to be one of the toughest hitters in the tournament last weekend. She finished the tournament with a staggering .700 batting average, driving two home runs and a triple. This right-handed hitter starts in a balanced and calm stance and takes a short and efficient path to the ball. She does a great job with her contact points, driving the ball to all fields. Mohlke drove in four runs for her team and scored four times. She showed a great eye in the box, drawing two walks and overall showed great athleticism on the field all weekend.

Lauren Hagedorn (2026, Adel, IA) of the Iowa Nationals 18U was easily one of the strongest two-way players to compete in the tournament. She shined bright on both sides of the ball, finishing with a .636 batting average and a 1.00 ERA. Offensively, this right-handed hitter and Iowa State Commit is built strong and packs a punch. She has loose hands and almost looks effortless when she swings. The ball pops off her barrel with solid velocity and she showed the ability to drive the ball to all fields. Hagedorn drove in five runs for her team and scored six times. On the mound she threw 14 innings, striking out 13 and giving up no walks. She commanded the zone well, using a mix of her tight-spinning curveball, backdoor curve, and riseball. She throws with good velocity paired with really nice movement.

Samantha Gripp (2027, Indianola, IA) of the Iowa Nationals 18U was a key piece to helping her team win the championship last weekend. This power-hitting righty finished her weekend batting .545 and drove in seven runs for the Nationals. Most notably in the championship game, she got the only two RBI’s of the game, a scorched line drive over the right-center fence to secure the win. Her power was on display all weekend as she belted three home runs. Gripp also stole three bases and scored four times for her team. Overall, Gripp is a perfect combination of power and athleticism. She uses a solid front leg lift to start her swing, but she gets the foot down on time and fires hard against a firm front side. She generates an incredible amount of barrel whip and doesn’t shy away from clutch situations. Her composure in the box during stressful situations was a huge asset and quite impressive.

Brynna Gander (2028, Marion, IA) of Nebraska Gold 319 Berning was one of the top impact players in the tournament. This left-handed hitter showed off her pop and grit in the box, blasting three home runs and driving in four runs for her team. She drew three walks and belted two doubles. In the box she generates a ton of barrel whip and has a strong and violent back side when swinging. She also threw three innings for her team, finishing with a 0.00 ERA and striking out three.

Kori Lincicum (2026, Ankeny, IA) of the Iowa Gold Prospects was a strong offensive force for her team last weekend. She finished the tournament batting .462, driving a home run, six hits, three RBI’s, and scoring five times. She stole six bases for her team, showing off her wheels. This Drake University Commit has a calm presence in the box and generates a great amount of bat speed. She is balanced and powerful within her swing and packs a punch.

Sophia Schlader (2028, Urbandale, IA) of the Iowa Gold Prospects was a standout performer on the weekend. She is a talented two-way player who dominated on both sides of the ball. Offensively, this right-handed hitter is built strong and knows how to generate power. She has a quick barrel and a short path to the ball, making her swing truly efficient and powerful. She has the ability to drive the ball to all fields with authority. She finished the weekend batting .500 and drove a double and had an RBI. In the circle, Schlader was a show of dominance. She consistently pops mid 60’s with good movement and command. In 14 innings pitched, she struck out 28, averaging two per inning. She finished with a 1.00 ERA and was a huge part of her team’s success.

Other notable performers…

Lia Horn (2028, Arlington Heights, IL) of the VA Glory 18U showed off incredible consistency in the box over the course of the tournament. She finished her weekend batting .750 with four doubles and three RBI’s. She also stole a base for her team.

Wolforth Throwing Mentorship: Article 63

Wolforth Throwing Mentorship: Article 62, Part 1 | Part 2 Demystifying the Curveball, Pitch Counts, and Weighted Balls - Part 3  We've made it to Part 3…the final installment of our series on baseball's most misunderstood and debated topics.   In Part 1, we tackled the curveball. The takeaway: the pitch itself isn't what’s dangerous. Decades of awful and ineffective coaching cues, ”snap your wrist," "turn the doorknob”…exacerbated and even in many causes caused some of the problems. Teach it correctly, when the athlete is ready, and it's no riskier than a fastball.  In Part 2, we examined pitch counts. The takeaway: they're a useful tool, but a limited one. Treating a single number as a universal measure of safety ignores everything...

Pacific Northwest All Region & Top Tools

NORTHWEST REGION (WA, OR, ID, WY, AK, MT, HI)    The biggest change in the Northwest Region for 2026 is the addition of Hawaii, which has always been overlooked due to being lumped with California in the former Pacific Region.  This also coincides with an increased Perfect Game presence in the islands in the form of additional events and scouting.  And Hawaii certainly contributed in it’s first year, placing four players on the All-Region team, including slugging 2026 outfielder Judah Ota. The powerhouse Puyallup HS team is the only Northwest Region team to be represented in the PG Pre-Season Top 50 National HS Rankings, beginning the year ranked 26th.  C – Teagan Scott (Sr., South Salem HS, Ore.) Scott has been on the prospect map since he played in the 2023 PG 14U Select Festival and is signed with Oregon State.  A right-handed hitter with lots...

PG ID Camps Help Youngsters Build a Baseball Resume There was still snow on the ground in a lot of places last weekend, but that didn’t stop more than 200 young players from going indoors to participate in the first round of Perfect Game Select Fest ID Camps for the 2026 season. John McAdams, PG’s national crosschecker and Northeast scouting director, ran the event in Farmingdale, New Jersey, and was impressed with his group’s energy and desire to improve at the game. “We’re giving young players the opportunity to build their baseball resumes and chart their growth and progress over a span of years,” he said. In addition to New Jersey, Select Fest ID Camps were held in Lake St. Louis, Missouri; Rossford, Ohio; Marietta, Georgia; and Kent, Washington. The ID camps debuted in 2025. Twenty-two of them were held around the country with nearly 700 young...

Then vs. Now: '26 Class Look Back

Tyler Henninger

One constant across our scouting staff is the volume of in-person looks we get at prospects during their high school years. With assignments at national tournaments and showcases throughout the calendar, we’ve built a deep library of reports and video on many of today’s top college prospects dating back to their prep days. This week, we took a step back to revisit what those players looked like as high school prospects. Which tools stood out? What was missing from the profile at the time? And what, if anything, did we overlook that ultimately helped shape the player they’ve become? Below, we break down 10 players in a “Then and Now” reflection. Justin Lebron (23 FL) finishes off the tournament getting in on the hit parade with a single to the pullside. #PGShowdown #Bama commit pic.twitter.com/C4Irym2ZTR — Perfect Game Scout (@PG_Scouting) March 4, 2023...

Grady Emerson (‘26 TX) laces this ball to right for a walk off single. Clean lefty stroke. Looks the part both sides of the ball. Checks all the boxes. Will be scouted heavily this Spring. #PGHS #HookEm commit. #PGDraft pic.twitter.com/wXvdHdgqME — Perfect Game Texas (@Texas_PG) February 6, 2026 Grady Emerson (2026, Argyle, Texas) had a strong showing throughout the opening week of high school baseball out here in Texas. Works good at-bats and is always a tough out in general. Makes all the plays at short and just has the look of a future big leaguer. He does all the little things right. Bat to ball will play at a high level and there is still a lot more power to project on here. There is a reason why Emerson is one of, if not the most highly coveted high school prospect in the 2026 class and it’s easy to see why. Currently committed to Texas, but has the potential to...

Nick Herfordt

Every spring, Division III baseball begins as a wide-open map. Cold mornings turn into long bus rides, non-conference gauntlets test resolve, and by the time the dust settles, only a few teams are still standing with a clear line to the NCAA Division III baseball tournament. The 2026 Perfect Game Division III Baseball Rankings capture that moment before the stretch run, highlighting the programs that have separated themselves through depth, durability, and an ability to win in a variety of ways. These eight teams are not simply piling up wins; they are shaping identities built to survive the grind and thrive when the margins narrow.  The destination is familiar, even if the journey never is. Once again, the final chapter will be written at Classic Park, where timing, composure, and roster balance matter as much as raw talent. The teams ranked here enter 2026 with more than ambition....
