Oh, Canada! Perfect Game USA is coming

Perfect Game USA is pleased to announce that the first Canadian Top Prospect Showcase will be held in Guelph, Ontario, on Aug. 17-18 at Pearson Fields.

This is the first time in history that Perfect Game will hold one of its events outside of the United States. We’ve had numerous players from other countries attend our events – including many players from Canada – but we’ve never left U.S. soil to stage a showcase or tournament. Until now.

Dan Bleiwas, the head coach of the Ontario Blue Jays, expects approximately 200 players to participate in the two-day showcase, with perhaps 100 players who will be graduating high school in 2011 and another 100 underclassmen.

“This will be a great chance for Canadian kids to get exposure at an event like this,” said Bleiwas, who is helping Perfect Game run the showcase.

There are many talented baseball players in Canada, and Perfect Game feels they are not given enough attention. This event will help remedy that. Cincinnati Reds slugger Joey Votto, who is from Canada, attended Perfect Game events in 2001 on his way to the major leagues.

The 2010 Canadian Top Prospect Showcase is not restricted to Canadians, however. Anyone may request an invitation, and the event will be within fairly easy driving distance for numerous players in parts of Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and upstate New York.

It’s easy to request an invitation. Return to the Perfect Game home page at www.PerfectGame.org and look in the upper-left hand corner for Showcases. Click on Showcases, scroll to the Canadian Top Prospect and click on “Request an Invite.” It’s as simple as that.

You’ll also find information for directions, the host hotel, airfare and car rentals. Guelph is located about 45 miles west of Toronto.
