14U BCS National Championship Preview

FORT MYERS, Fla — 60 teams from all around the country will assemble in Fort Myers, Florida on Thursday to battle for the 14U BCS National championship. 

One of the many teams to watch is Wow Factor South, from Miami, Florida. Currently standing at 52-12-2 in 2023, the No. 39 team in the nation brings dominant talent like Jake Carruthers, Caden Coleman and Andy Espinoza. 



Carruthers, a Hollywood, Florida native and No. 1-ranked third baseman in the state, has hit .375 so far in 2023, with 27 singles, seven doubles, and 35 RBIs.

Coleman, from West Park, Florida, has added 26 singles, four doubles and three triples - scoring 30 runs in 2023 and driving in 19 RBIs. 

On the defensive side for Wow Factor, Jorge Kau from Hialeah Gardens, Florida has pitched more than 37 innings and racked up 40 strikeouts while keeping his ERA at an astonishing 0.56. Adding to Wow Factor’s pitching power is Espinoza from Hialeah, Florida - who has a staggering 49 strikeouts in 32 innings pitched. 

An honorable mention in PG rankings and ranked the No. 34 team in the south, TBT Ballers Texas 14U National, looks to improve on its 31-16-3 mark. Offensively, two-way player Trevor Hernandez from Midlothian, Texas has contributed 14 singles, five doubles and three homers so far. And on the mound, he’s also struck out 24 in 27 innings pitched - keeping his ERA at 1.69.

Florida Burn 2027 Scout Team out of Sarasota, Florida, should be a contender as well with a 20-7-2 mark this year and top-175 talent in Jace Moran and Hudson Sapp. 

Moran, the No. 1 ranked catcher in Florida and talented right-handed pitcher, is off to a blistering start in both areas. Behind the plate, the Live Oak, Florida, native is batting .458, with nine doubles, six triples and 21 stolen bases through 42 games. And on the mound, Moran has low-80’s velocity, striking out 17 and posting a 0.65 ERA in 21 ⅔ innings. 

While Sapp, the No. 45 ranked shortstop nationally, is just as elite defensively as he is in the batter's box. In 33 games, the Newberry, Florida, native has knocked in 16 RBIs, four doubles and a home run, while posting a .414 on base percentage. 

Inevitable A’s National out of St. Louis, Missouri, could also make some noise in their first Florida tournament of the summer with dynamic duo Beau Morio and Chase Stieferman.

Morio, a University of Iowa commit, is off to a hot start over his first 17 games of 2023, batting .389 with six doubles and seven RBIs. While Stieferman, the No. 1 left-handed pitcher in Missouri, possesses low-80’s velocity on his fastball with 14 strikeouts over 11 innings this year. 

The five-day tournament will roll until Tuesday, where the final four teams will compete for the title at JetBlue Park.
