Collegiate All-Americans & Postseason Awards

Player of the Year
Dylan Crews – OF/LSU

When you enter the season as the consensus No.1 player in the country on the consensus No.1 team in the country, to most it may seem the only way to go is down. But, if you are Dylan Crews, you welcome the challenge and let your elite mentality, work ethic and talent build a season for the ages. The top prospect on virtually every MLB Draft list, 6-0/205 centerfielder from Longwood, FL is a rare blend of power, speed, instincts and baseball IQ that all teams covet. Crews carried a batting average over .500 with an on-base percentage over .600 for almost two-thirds of the 2023 season. He has been the focus of opponents, in the heart of one of the most feared offenses in the nation and a major reason the LSU Tigers are making their first trip back to Omaha since 2017. Heading into their matchup with Tennessee in the first round of College World Series action, he has a slash line of .434/.735/.596 thus far. Add in 89 runs scored, 15 doubles, 17 home runs, 67 RBIs and the fact that he has been walked or hit-by-pitch almost twice as many times as he has struck out you have a season you rarely see, especially in the SEC. And just for good measure, Crews played errorless ball covering the spacious outfield at Alex Box Stadium. It will be a surprise to virtually everyone if he’s not the first name called in this July’s MLB Amateur Draft.

Pitcher of the Year
Paul Skenes – RHP/LSU

The LSU Tigers brought in the most impressive class of transfers of any club in the 2023 season and none made more of an impact than the big, righthander Paul Skenes. At 6-6/247 he is an intimidating presence on the mound and displayed the durability that would lead you to believe he will have a very long Big-League career as a frontline starting pitcher. He is a marvel in the way he repeats his mechanics, fills up the strike zone and throws 100+ mph fastballs with such perceived low effort. On many occasions, his first pitch of the game would register triple digits on the radar gun and then over 100 pitches later that outing he would eclipse the century mark with his fastball again. The quality of his repertoire doesn’t stop with the heater, as he also features a wipeout slider with devastating late bite that will peak in the low-90s and a deceptive, fading changeup in the upper-80s. The Lake Forest, CA native has gone 12-2 on the season in 17 starts, carrying a 1.77 ERA while being the cornerstone of a pitching staff that has had its challenges this year. As further proof of his elite talent on the mound, he has thrown 107 IP while only allowing 65 hits and possesses a mind-blowing 188:18 strikeout-to-walk ratio. Skenes has been compared to the all-time greats like Mark Prior and Stephen Strausburg and will be one of the first couple names called when the MLB Draft starts this July.

Freshman of the Year
Ethan Petry – OF/South Carolina

The South Carolina Gamecocks retuned to the top of the national baseball landscape in 2023 and much of the credit goes to their offense that showed the ability to put up runs in a hurry. One of the reasons for that resurgence on the offensive side of things was the impact of the freshman from Land O’ Lakes, FL, Ethan Petry. The 6-4/230 outfielder pinch-hit in the first two games of the season and after that he became a fixture in the starting lineup. With dense strength in his hands, high level barrel awareness and light tower power he became one of the most feared sticks in the SEC. His slash line looked like one you would expect to see from an upperclassman, finishing the season .376/.733/.471 all told. Petry added in 10 doubles, 23 home runs and 75 RBIs as he was picked our Perfect Game Midseason Freshman of the Year and lived up to the billing. As further recognition of his special talent, he has secured an invite to Cary, NC to compete for a spot on the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team. With his physicality and offensive capabilities, he will be followed closely by MLB scouts in the next couple years.

Two-Way Player of the Year
Jac Caglianone – 1B/LHP/Florida

With the recent surge in legitimate, high-level two-way talent in the college game, we have decided to add this category to the list of our postseason awards. Having been compared to Shohei Ohtani on more than one occasion, Jac Caglianone has done things at the college level that have never been witnessed before. The 6-5/245 talent from Tampa, FL possesses arguably the most, raw lefthanded power with the bat and strongest lefthanded arm on the mound of any player in the history of the college game. On several occasions this spring, Caglianone produced home runs that registered up to 120 mph off the bat while throwing a pitch that also eclipsed the 100-mph mark. His torrid bat speed saw him lead the nation in home runs throughout the season as he slashed .336/.766/.402 to go with 13 doubles, 31 home runs while collecting 84 RBIs. On the mound, he used his fastball that sat in the upper-90s and abrupt breaking ball to hold opponents to a .184 batting average. In 16 starts, he went 7-3 with a 3.78 ERA, only allowing 46 hits in 69.0 IP while striking out 81 batters. It will be interesting to see where MLB scouts see his long-term talent but regardless, he will enter the 2024 season as arguably the No.1 talent in that class.

Coach of the Year
Tom Walter – Wake Forest

In his 14th season as the skipper of the Wake Forest Demon Deacons program, Tom Walter has taken the program to unforeseen levels of greatness. He is currently one of only two active coaches that has led three different programs to the NCAA Division I Tournament. In 2023, his club started 13-0 for only the 2nd time in program history, swept rival University of Miami for the first time ever, and he earned his 400th victory at Wake back on April 23rd. On May 8th, the Deacs were ranked No.1 in the country for the 1st time in program history and on June 2nd broke the all-time single season win record with their 48th victory. Walter also orchestrated the programs 1st ACC Regular Season title since 1963 in route to securing the No.1 National Seed in the NCAA Tournament. They also hosted and swept through the Regional and Super Regional rounds, outscoring their opponents 75-16 in the 5 games. This, of course, delivered them to their first appearance in the College World Series since 1955 when they won the National Championship. This being his 26th season and accumulating over 800 wins at the Division I level, Walter has quietly built a resume that proves him to be one of the most consistently successful and brilliant minds in our game today.

MVPitcher: Duncan McLeod The uncommitted junior toed the slab in three of the four games for Team Mick, tossing 3 2/3 innings.  Zero walks, zero hits and 6 punchouts for the lefty who was used both as a starter in the series clinching game 4 and he closed out game 3 on Friday in quick fashion.  McLeod was very efficient as well, needing just 42 pitches over all his outings.  In the game 4 start, over two innings he punched out 3, with one strikeout with all of his offerings.  The mid 80’s fastball regularly played up, set up with efficient use of the secondaries, with the breaking ball 73/74 and fading change-up 72-74.   Owen Bone (2026) at it again... What a year it was in 2025 on the national landscape at the 13u level as Perfect Game continues to expand its reach around the country, providing an even bigger schedule of events coast-to-coast which has allowed players all over show out and gain their deserved recognition. Whether in Texas for the Houston 1000 or the 13u WWBA in West Palm Beach, we saw huge, eye opening performances from the players placed below, knowing that we could EASILY build a third team and likely a fourth without much effort.  As we do every year with this exercise, it's worth pointing out the trickiness of this age group and putting the teams together with the 13u group. While the players are all members of the Class of 2030, some are younger for the grade, which allowed them to play at the 12u level where's it's a smaller field, shorter mound distance and different bats, so we'll separate them out and...

Player of the Year: Asher Williams It was an incredible year for Williams that was rewarded with a trip to the 14U Select Fest, before some more impressive play in the fall. He came to the plate almost 250 times in PG tournaments throughout 2025 and reached base in well over half of them, hitting to a .500 AVG while slugging a 14U circuit best 12 bombs and driving in 113 runs. The numbers on the surface are ridiculous, but when you look at the high-level events he put them up in, it makes it even more impressive. Pitcher of the Year: Tristan Blalock Blalock earns this honor after a dominant 2025 where he struck out 85 batters in just 48.2 innings of work with a minuscule 1.58 ERA. This included several strong performances at many national level tournaments and showcases where he was able to bully some of the best hitters in the country. It’s hard not to fall in love with...

PG Draft: Gut Feel Guys

Tyler Henninger
Article Image
While we are nearing the turn of the calendar to the 2026 year, that means we are just inching closer to the beginning of the season for many high school players and college baseball is on the horizon. We are prepping for a reshuffle of the 2026 MLB Draft Board as well here amongst the PG Draft staff. But before we get to that, we sat down and have each picked a couple of players who are in the mix to get selected in a couple of different buckets.  We have prospects who could go into the Top 30 picks or so, prospects who could be selected in the Top 5 rounds, and prospects who could go inside of the Top 10 rounds. With the draft quite far down the road and a lot of re-shuffling to be done as these players play themselves into certain spots on the draft board, our scouts picked some players who fit into these “buckets” who are gut-feel guys. These are the guys that our PG...

Hitter of the Year: Landon Bonner The 2028 class saw many players from across the country take the next step in their development as they entered the High School ranks. There were huge performances from highly ranked players on the PG circuit as well as some under-the-radar guys who burst onto the scene. Landon Bonner came into Sophomore National as a Top 500 ranked player and after an impressive showing, left with all eyes on him as a rankings riser in the class. The left-handed hitting shortstop from The Colony, Texas, had a summer to remember with All-Tournament Team selections in three of his next four events culminating with a historic performance at the 2025 PG 15U WWBA National Championship. Hitter of the Year: Koa Romero is the Hitter of the Year for the 16u group, as he would come to every premier event of the summer and earn All-Tournament honors (Beast of the East, 16/17u WWBA, Jupiter) in every single one. Over 82 plate appearances, Romero would pump ten homeruns with forty two RBI and sixteen walks, good for a .378 average and 1.339 OPS. The performance on volume at the best events of the year pushed Romero over the edge here, as he’d hit a pair of homeruns in Jupiter (one of them at 112 EV) as an underclassmen and collect double digit hits in BOTH WWBA events with a combined six jacks over the two tournaments. It was a summer that combined performance and winning on the biggest stages for Romero. It’s a quiet left-handed swing that packs a punch. He would reap the benefits of his performances, earning a commitment to LSU and jumping to the #74 prospect in...

There’s a lot of talent throughout this 2026 class, filled with the big-name stars, to talent that spreads across the nation. It’s been a lot of fun seeing these prospects grow and develop over the years, from the days of watching some of these guys at the 13/14u days at events on the circuit, to now where they are all graduating seniors in 2026. There’s been new faces who have popped along the way over the years, even in 2026, where some players who were relatively undiscovered, have come out and made a name for themselves with a statement performance. Between the familiar and the new, there’s a lot of names on this list that are going to be quite regularly talked about on the circuit, and for good reason.  Whether it’s PG All-Americans or not, there’s a lot of names with superstar potential at the next level. We’ve got 14 PG All-Americans...
