Tourney Preview: Memorial Day Classics

2023 PG Southeast Memorial Day Classic - Marietta, GA, 183 teams

Over 180 teams will be represented in Marietta, Georgia this week at the Southeast Memorial Day Classic from May 25-29.

Team Elite 14U headlines 14U, with five players ranked in the top-115 including shortstops Patrick Hassan (No. 29) and Banks Addison, right-handed pitchers Will Hayes (No. 48) and Case Martin (No. 53) along with third-baseman Austin Neese (No. 57).

In the 15U division, East Cobb Astros Texas Orange will certainly be the team to beat. With thirteen players ranked inside the top-400 and three committed to play at the next level -  Bubba Coleman (LSU), Matthew Sharman (Georgia) and Trevor Condon (Miami) - the Astros look to take home the crown in the 44-team field.

The East Cobb Astros will also be well represented in 16U, bringing in a plethora of 2025 commits including No. 24 ranked Cannon Goldin (Mississippi) and Jay O'Neal (Georgia Tech).

Devine Baseball 16u will be a team to watch as well, with four top-300 players - including Georgia pledges in outfielder Ty Peeples and catcher Camden Hodge.

If there is a division to pay attention to it is 17U. With nine of the top-100 players in the country, there will be no shortage of future MLB talent among these rising seniors. Topping the rankings is future Georgia Tech shortstop Connor Shouse and uncommitted dual-sport athlete Bryce Clavon (No. 17).

Oklahoma commit and shortstop Jason Walk is the player to watch in 18U after batting .347 and driving in 17 RBI’s in 2022.

2023 East Memorial Day Classic - Fort Myers, FL, 143 teams

Despite just four age groups making the trip to Fort Myers, Florida for Memorial Day, over 140 talented teams will be spread out among 15-18U.

And while they are the youngest by age, there is nothing youthful about the talent in 15U.

With three top-15 players in the Class of 2026 in outfielders Brady Harris (No. 5), Aiden Arnett (No. 15) and right-handed pitcher Wilson Andersen (No. 8), Mba 2026 Scout Team heads into the weekend as the most decorated team among the pack.

However, with the amount of talent in attendance anybody can take the crown, including CBU 2026 Scout Team James who possesses Texas commit and right-handed pitcher Mills Carrillo who allowed just a mere 1.33 WHIP rate over 44.1 innings in 2022.

Throughout 16U, TBT FTB Phillies Scout Team - specifically outfielder Jacob Kendall - is the team to look out for.

Bringing in eight of the top-200 prospects in the country, the Phillies are talented from top to bottom, headlined by Kendall. The No. 6 player in the nation and Florida commit batted .415 last year while raking in six home runs and driving in 34 RBI.

17U brings in a wide-range of talent as well, with a whopping 27 top-500 players in the country making the trip down to Southwest Florida. Top-100 prospects Anthony Tralongo (No. 53) and Ryan McPherson (No. 64) are players to look out for among the rising high school seniors.

2023 PG West Memorial Day Classic - Surprise, AZ, 129 teams

All six age divisions in Surprise, Arizona this weekend will be well-represented, with each having double-digit teams competing for their respective titles.

LSU commit Colton Christman is a player to look out for in 14U. The Canes West left-handed pitcher registered 117 strikeouts over 78.1 innings in 2022, while allowing a mere 2.00 ERA.

With 10 of the top-500 players in the Class of 2026, 15U will be full of talent top to bottom. Headlined by No. 18 ranked Ryan Harwood, the top-ranked first baseman in the nation batted .345 with 10 doubles and 42 RBI’s in 2022.

Representing Matadors 2025 are two of the top ranked players throughout 16U and top-35 prospects in the nation in Zach Strickland (No. 14) and Jarett Sabol (No. 31). Strickland, a UCLA commit and right-handed pitcher, struck out 22 over his 11.1 innings of work last year. Sabol, a future USC Trojan, has driven in 40 RBI’s and knocked in five triples over the past two years.

2024 Scottsdale Dirtbags Black looks to be the team to beat throughout 17U. With the top ranked player throughout the entire tournament in Chris Newstrom (No. 119) and 10 rated players overall, the Dirtbags bring a multitude of collegiate caliber players to the table.

In the eldest group, 3D Warstic could be the most complete team and favorite to make a run at the 18U title. With 10 of the top 11 ranked players in the age group, including Oregon State commit and No. 38 ranked Trent Caraway, the amount of talent on this roster is legit.

PG Las Vegas Memorial Day Classic - Las Vegas, NV, 124 teams

A dozen age groups and 124 teams make the trip to Las Vegas, Nevada this weekend to kickoff the summer baseball schedule.

The leader of the pack in 14U is Biscuits-Browns’ Alexander McRae, the No. 73 ranked player in the Class of 2027. Rated the No. 1 player in Arizona and ninth best left-handed pitcher in the nation, McRae racked up 30 strikeouts in 14.1 innings a season ago.

Among 16U, CBA Bulldogs head with the most talent throughout the division. Long Beach State commit and No. 127 player in the nation Bryden Bull tops the ranking, followed by top-1000 prospects Joseph Ponticello, Mickey Fox, Brock Cross and RJ Wilson.

Locally based Las Vegas Aces look to take advantage of the hometown advantage and bring back some hardware in 18U. With three college commits in Jet Gilliam (Long Beach State), Seth Lyons (Cochise College) and Seth Graham-Pippin (USC), the Aces bring the top three prospects into the division.

That didn’t slow down on day three at Mt. Zion High School as he came up with the biggest swing of the day, hitting a triple down the left field line to drive in a pair. It’s been a standout week so far for Ayars and he’ll be a driving force behind the run through the tourney for CBU 2028 Scout Team Lawson. Rylan Jenkins (2028, Tennille, Ga.) put...

Final 2026 MLB Mock Draft

Vincent Cervino
Article Image
It's draft day and that means it's time for our final Mock Draft with the 2026 group. 1. Chicago White Sox | Roch Cholowsky, SS, UCLA It’s between Roch and Grady Emerson at this pick, though there have been heavy rumors of a very late deal potentially with another top 5 pick. This boils down to negotiations and we think that they will get there.  2. Tampa Bay Rays | Grady Emerson, SS, Fort Worth Christian (Tex.) If Grady isn’t the first pick then he is almost certain to be the second pick. The Rays like to get creative but Emerson is a well worth prospect in his own right.  3.  Minnesota Twins | Vahn Lackey, C, Georgia Tech This is likely the floor for Roch Cholowsky, though the Twins might prefer Lackey to Roch outright. They are thought to be in on the top college players with Emerson a distant third.  4. San Francisco Giants | Jackson Flora, RHP, UC...

Cape Cod Notebook No. 1

Perfect Game Staff
Article Image
Cape Cod League Scouting Notebook  Maverick Rizy | Ole Miss | RHP | Brewster Whitecaps  The towering 6-foot-9, 250-pound right-hander continues to stand out with one of the more unique looks on the Cape, pairing a massive frame with a low three-quarter slot that creates difficult angles for hitters. While his fastball velocity was down from its typical mid-90s range during this look, working mostly 90-92 mph, it still generated plenty of swing-and-miss. He paired the heater with an 81-83 mph gyro slider featuring tight bullet-spin action and mixed in an 85-mph changeup with quality separation. Rizy battled his command early in the outing I saw, before settling in to strike out five over three innings, showing the ability to adjust as the game progressed. Through 12.2 Cape League innings, he has recorded 18 strikeouts, and his combination of size, deception, and projectability...

Tre Hallberg (‘27, AZ) hammers this out to deep LCF for a 2-run 💣. Continues to stand out at the plate. Power will only continue to develop #WWBAWest @PG_Uncommitted https://t.co/NlWlDygpwg pic.twitter.com/RHrgYXLmwm — Perfect Game Four Corners (@PG_FourCorners) July 10, 2026 Tre Hallberg (2027, Mesa, Ariz.) was nearly impossible to get out over the first two days of action, going 7-for-9 with a triple and a home run. A balanced right-handed swing stays compact to contact. There is quick hand speed through the zone with feel for the barrel. Hallberg has a strong feel to hit to go with power that continues to develop. The upside is apparent.  William Garcia Falmer (2027, El Dorado Hills, Calif.) collected a pair of mulit-hit games over the course of day one and two, going 5-for-7 with two doubles, a homer, and seven runs driven in. Garcia Falmer features a physical build...

Showed a good feel for the barrel throughout the weekend, hitting .538 (7-for-13) with 3 doubles, 8 RBI, 2 stolen bases, and a 1.376 OPS. Also received well behind the plate with quick, efficient transfers and displayed good instincts.    ’28 1B Brock Hamilton (IL) displays some present strength, driving this ball deep into the LCF gap to leg out a triple. Perfect Game Staff

16u WWBA Scout Notes: Day 1 | Day 2 Carlos Acuna (2028, Sylmar, Cal.) turned in an impressive start on Wednesday, tossing four shutout innings with six strikeouts and just one hit allowed. The 6-foot-1 right-hander filled up all four quadrants of the strike zone with his fastball, which lived in the 86-87 mph range and touched 88 a couple of times. He mixed in a true 12-6 curveball with huge depth down in the zone, and showed comfortability doubling up on the breaking ball. ‘28 Francis Conners-Schmid (NY) was dominant out of the ‘pen, 6 Ks in 2 hitless inn of work. Lived 88-89 & touched 90 multiple times. Sharp horz break to the SL w/ teeth & tight spin (clip).
