Most Likely To Make a Huge Jump in the Rankings in 2023

Max Medina (2026) OF Patterson High School
Medina is in store for a big jump in 2023 as he really impressed in several facets. He’s got innate feel for the barrel, his bat-to-ball skills show in game and should only develop. Loose, rhythmic lefty swing with great timing and sound hands. Medina takes advanced routes and reads in center field and his overall feel on both sides makes him a good bet to open eyes and make the jump next year.

Cole Chamberlain (2024) C San Marin High School
After a loud showing this summer, Chamberlain can really vault up the rankings in 2023 if he puts together another solid year. The Texas commit has a solid hit/power tool from the left side, the power projects and starting to show in game. It’s a pretty polished lefty stick with strength to pull. His catch-and-throw skills have only improved with sound transfers and he projects to stick behind the dish long term. Chamberlain is a rare profile and is in store for another rise.

Troy Ueltzen (2025) 3B/RHP Rocklin High School
Uetlzen is a promising two-way product with an athletic, projectable frame and lots to work with. He creates good length in the path from the left side and is beginning to show some loud pull-side strength at impact. The swing and frame project position wise with a good arm across, but he also has some promise on the bump. Quick arm and gets good extension on is front side. The fastball is up to 86 mph with good arm-side run and can mix in solid breaking ball with tight shape and depth. Ueltzen has the makings to rise in 2023.

-Isaiah Burrows

Grant Gray (2023) Norco High School
Committed to UCLA as a two sport athlete, Gray has been a bit under the radar as far as baseball goes with him putting in work on the gridiron  through most of the travel and scout ball seasons.  Norco always plays an aggressive off season schedule, so Gray will get plenty of game reps to get ready for the 2023 season, as he joined the boys on the diamond shortly after the football season concluded.  Gray is a lean and athletic kid with tools to stay up the middle, primarily manning center field for the Cougars while also showing good actions on the dirt, primarily at second base.

Gabe Fraser (2024) Orange Lutheran High School
Fraser gave us some good looks towards the end of the summer and fall after being relatively off the grid prior to the summer of 2022 dealing with some injury issues.  Healthy now, and transferring to baseball powerhouse Orange Lutheran, Fraser will compete for the shortstop job where he’ll have plenty of eyes on him, both from the PG staff and MLB scouts. Fraser has a great frame with a easy, pretty swing from the left side and he showed a feel to hit this fall.

Most Likely To Hit .500 at PG Events in 2023

Addison Klepsch (2024) SS/2B  Del Norte High School
Klepsch produces a ton of barreled contact in looks. The ASU commit hit to the tune of .376 in PG events last season with 11 extra base-hits in 37 games. He seemingly finds hard contact each time up with plenty of intent to all fields. His feel for the barrel and hitterish traits makes him a good bet to keep swinging it in 2023.

Charlie Bates (2024) SS Palo Alto High School
Along with his defensive traits up the middle, Bates is a good bet to hit at an awfully high level next year. He ended the summer with a loud showing at Underclass Area Codes and hit .421 in PG events in 2022. It’s an awfully smooth, fluid left-handed swing that is beginning to tap into some in-game power as the frame develops. He has all the tools to put together quite a show with the stick.

Billy Carlson (2025) SS/RHP Corona High School
Carlson’s elite two-way ability is advanced in every aspect, but his feel for the barrel and consistent contact puts him in the discussion as a 2025. The Vanderbilt commit matches plane and lets the hands work through the zone. He stays short and seemingly squares up every ball in looks. He has the traits of an elite player.

-Isaiah Burrows

Derek Curiel (2024) Orange Lutheran High School
This feels like the chalk pick for the 2024 class, but we’re staying at Orange Lutheran for Curiel, who’s done nothing to relinquish the top spot in the country continuing to showcase his advanced hit tool.  We’ll expect a year round hit parade, and against top competition both in the Trinity League and transitioning in to the travel ball season.

Maverek Russell (2025) La Mirada High School
Sporting a 417 average already in his career at Perfect Game events, Russell has one of the narrower gaps to close to reach the .500 mark in 2023.  Hitters hit, and Russell has been a barrel machine regularly.  It’s a physical profile for Maverek, we can expect some over the fence juice from the UCLA commit as the body continues to mature.

Cole "CJ" Weinstein (2026) Huntington Beach High School
It may be aggressive throwing a 2026 in to the mix here, as Weinstein may be playing up a few age groups against tougher competition, but Weinstein has shown the ability to handle velocity and consistently work good at bats in several looks.

Most Likely To Make a Velo Jump Into the Mid-90s in 2023

Will Sanford (2024) RHP Point Loma High School
Sanford opened eyes with a loud showing on the hill this summer and has all the traits to climb the velo ladder. The Oregon commit topped 93 mph in events last year from loose three-quarter slot with easy running life out of the hand. There’s plenty more in the frame combined with the athleticism and feel to spin he has.

Seth Hernandez (2025) RHP Elite Charter Academy High School
Another big time Vandy commit from the 2025 California class. Hernandez is a special arm with feel to spin and tons of physical projection in a long 6-foot-4, 180-pound frame. The fastball was up to 92 with plenty of angle last year and can really tick into the mid-90s for 2023. He has all the makings of a special arm along with his two-way ability and uber-athleticism.

-Isaiah Burrows

Cole Schoenwetter (2023) San Marcos High School
Chalk pick here, going with the top ranked arm in California for the 2023 class in Schoenwetter, but part of his ranking status takes his projection in to account, and his projection is BIG.  We’ve seen him touching mid 90s and wouldn’t be surprised to see him adding a few pounds to the lean frame and getting that velo bump in 2023.

Boston Bateman, (2024) Camarillo High School
Another chalk here with the top pitcher in the 2024 class for California, but Bateman gets the nod here for different reasons than Schoenwetter.  The massive framed Bateman has advanced coordination for his age, especially relative to his height, and he continues to improve stuff and command.  He could throw REALLY hard.

Levi Sterling (2024) Notre Dame High School
We'll throw out a non-chalk guy as a bonus here since the first two were from the top of the class.  Sterling flirts with 90 mph regularly, but it comes from an easy, athletic operation, AND from a two-way player.  He’s shown well with the bat, but the upside on the mound is evident and a velo jump could be around the corner as the body continues to mature.

-Steve Fiorindo

Most Likely to Back Up a Breakout in 2022

Boston Baro (2023) SS Capistrano Valley High School
Making the move to Capistrano Valley, Baro is generating draft buzz heading into the new year and can really establish himself as a breakout on the national scene. The UCLA commit is a sure-handed shortstop with a sweet, uphill swing that meets lots of barreled contact. Baro has all the traits up the middle and has simply hit at a high level in looks. He can back up a big time breakout for 2023 and put himself firmly onto draft boards.

Brynner Waiolama (2023) RHP North Torrance High School
Waiolama broke out late in the year at Jupiter with eye opening stuff. The Hawaii commit bumped it up to 95 mph with a tight two-plane slider in the low-80s. He’s a physical right-hander who brings a ton of intrigue. With a full year under his belt, Waiolama can justify such a high jump in 2022.

-Isaiah Burrows

Brandon Winokur (2023) Edison High School
We saw Winokur transition off the mound and off the dirt going back to Underclass All American, with more of a shift to the corner outfield and the bat continued to develop, if not take off.  With the ability to loft balls, Winokur can really impact the ball with long shots that seem to keep rising as they leave the yard.  Consistency with the bat really took his game to the next level that lead to him being a PG All American.  We’re expecting a very loud 2023 season from the UCLA commit.

Will Gasparino (2023) Harvard Westlake High School
The body transformation we saw from Underclass All American to PG National for Gasparino was extremely fun to see.  The added weight and strength took his coordination to another level which really transformed in to him becoming a PG All American.  He had some of the top exit velocities (against top pitching) at PG National which should set him up for a big 2023 campaign.

Most Likely to Lead the Region in Home Runs in 2023

Daniel Arambula (2024) 3B/1B, Yucaipa High School

Arambula flashed some loud pull-side power to close the summer on a high note last year. The LSU commit has turned into a physical product with real hand speed and strength, turning the barrel over with plenty of intent. He rarely catches himself out front and selling out, staying short and coiled on a pretty stiff front side to let the strength shine. Arambula has the chance to lead the entire region as an underclassman.

-Isaiah Burrows

Raffaele Velazquez (2023). Huntington Beach High School
Sometimes it’s just too hard to not take chalk.  Velazquez showcased the raw power at PG National and the Home Run Derby launching balls to parts of the stadiums that high schoolers don’t normally visit.  He plays in a hitter friendly home field and can drive the ball out to all fields.  Huntington’s lineup is also pretty deep, so it won’t be too easy to pitch around Velazquez.

Zachary Anderson (2023) Temecula Valley High School
We’ll dig a little deeper here Anderson as a bonus pick.  The physical catcher has shown the ability to hammer balls in live looks for several extra base hits, and we expect some of those doubles we saw to clear the fence in 2023 with another year of development.

College Players of the Week: March 24

Vincent Cervino

March 24th Perfect Game/Player of the Week: Quinton Coats, IF, Cincinnati The Cincinnati Bearcats (19-7) are on the cusp of the Top 25 and are playing their best ball of the season. The offense has been the driving force behind their success, and it has been incredibly consistent having averaged 8.5-runs per game. In the middle of it all, Quinton Coats, is on pace for a historic season both within the program and on a national level. The 6-3/225 infielder from Olathe, KS has been launching home runs at a record pace and opponents seem to be powerless to stop his onslaught. With incredible strength in his hands, Coats creates easy loft and in 5 road games last week he collected 9 hits in 20 at-bats, with 4 home runs, 9 runs scored, and he drove in a total of 9 runs as well. As for his pursuit of history, the modern day BBCOR bat standard single season home run record is 34, set back in...

The Georgia native possesses tremendous upside on the mound, working from a long and lean right-handed frame that displays projection and athleticism. Jones starts over the face before working to the belt and into a higher pronounced leg lift. He fires down the mound via a standard-length arm action and high three-quarters slot. Chubb’s fastball/slider combination and feel for the zone, with the heater showcasing run/ride traits and power into the high-90s....

College Top 25: March 23

Time flies when you are having fun and the fact that we are almost to the halfway point of the 2026 season, proves just how entertaining things have been to this point. In what was an ultra-impactful week on the national landscape, there are some clubs fading out of the limelight while others are emerging from the shadows and showing they are a force to be reconned with. Conference play always makes the big picture come into view and we are now getting a feel for who the true contenders may be as the grind begins. The UCLA Bruins (21-2) keep their stranglehold on the top spot in the land as they remain unchallenged since the start of Big Ten play and finished the week with a (4-0) record. The Texas Longhorns (20-3) did lose back-to-back games this week but showed their resilience by winning an intense road series against now No. 7 Auburn (19-4). Georgia Tech (19-5) also had a (2-2) week...

2026 Draft Board: Top 300

Vincent Cervino
Article Image
The 2026 MLB Draft class is shaping up to be one of the better in recent memory and, potentially, the best class in the last decade. It’s led by UCLA superstar shortstop Roch Cholowsky, a true five-tool prospect who’s the early favorite for 1:1. One of the most popular pieces of industry feedback when constructing this list was some variation of “Roch is too low” or “go up on Roch” and he’s the best college prospect since 2019 when Adley Rutschman (Oregon State, Orioles) was the consensus No. 1 prospect. Similarly to 2019, there’s a superstar Texas prep shortstop at No. 2, in 2019 it was Bobby Witt Jr. (Colleyville Heritage, Royals) and this year it’s Grady Emerson. Both Emerson and Alabama’s Justin Lebron would have been solid 1:1 candidates in years where Roch Cholowsky is not eligible and both have All-Star potential....

DII/DIII/NAIA Rankings Update: March 18

Nick Herfordt

In every major sport, the championship is decided in the postseason. You can lose games all year, get hot at the right time, and walk away with the hardware. The regular season is a rehearsal. The playoffs are the show.  The championship belt changes that. Borrowed from professional wrestling, boxing and ultimate fighting, the belt travels the moment the holder loses — no brackets, no seeding, no second chances. A random Tuesday non-conference game in Milledgeville, Georgia  becomes a title fight. A spring trip to Florida becomes a gauntlet. The defending national champion can lose the belt before February is over.  We’re tracking three belts this season — NCAA Division II, NAIA, and NCAA Division III — each starting with the defending national champion. The results have been exactly as chaotic as you’d expect.  Worth noting along the...
