13u WWBA Scout Notes: Days 1-2

Marc Ascencio (2027, Pembroke Pines, Fla.) has done a little bit of everything so far this tournament for Clutch Elite, showing off his athleticism on both sides of the ball. With runners on first and second and just one out, a soft flair was hit Ascencio’s way which he deliberately dropped in an attempt to turn two and escape the jam though the ump signaled infield fly and the batter was ruled out. Yes, it didn’t work out but what it did show was the young shortstop’s awareness and overall baseball IQ, thinking on his feet and reacting to the situation laid out in front of him. Offensively it’s been a bit of a different story as the right-handed hitting Ascencio has had more than a couple swings with the results to match. He’s done a nice job atop the order thus far into the tournament showing a loose and fluid path through the zone, picking up a pair of knocks on Monday in which he was able to show some strength with a deep drive out to left field for a double before singling over the head of the shortstop later in the day.
