ATLANTA, Ga. -- Georgia Bombers 17U dominated the 2022 PG Firecracker Finale on Saturday from the first to last innings, putting multiple crooked numbers up on the scoreboard before defeating Team Elite 17u Prime by a final score of 14-3.

Walker Barron, Schley Gordy, Will Moffit, and Kameron Douglas notched consecutively singles in the bottom first. Gordy's, Moffit's, and Douglas' were all of the RBI variety.

After starting pitcher Cason Engert had put a zero up on the scoreboard in the top of the first inning, the score was already 5-0 heading into the second frame.

Colin Houck, a top-100 prospect in the 2023 class nationally, showcased his offensive talents in the bottom of the second inning, taking a 75 mph slider and hitting a backside two-run home run, scoring Carson Kerce as well, and setting a 7-0 score by the end of the inning.

Gordy was in the middle of the action again in the third inning, getting hit by a pitch and then turning the burners on, stealing second, then third and finally scoring on another RBI knock from Douglas. Douglas, a Georgia State commit, went ended his day 3-for-3 overall.

A hefty six-spot on the scoreboard in the fourth, highlighted by a two-RBI double from Bernard Moon, officially put the game out of reach for the Bombers and allowed them to enact a run-rule after the fifth. Altogether, they pounded out 10 hits and worked five walks on their way to victory.

Engert and Evan O'Neill combined for the five innings on the mound for the Bombers. The clean pitching from the two allowed for a quick, five inning game, as Engert needed only 30 pitches to get through his three innings of work. The 2023 grad struck out four athletes in those three innings, throwing consistently in the 83-90 mph range.

And as a word of warning to the rest of the field at the Firecracker Finale, the Bombers have only begun to show their talent on the field, according to the team’s head coach.

“They're coming together as a group and really buying into our approach as a hitting group. Pitching, catching, and defense have been really clean as of late, and we’re really starting to show what kind of talent we have,” Head Coach Johnny Magliozzi said after the game.

The Bombers still have tough games ahead of them, but there is no doubt that this thriving program will continue to grow in their talents and team chemistry to secure wins for the rest of the summer.
