IOWA CITY, IA - Perfect Game Softball Iowa City Scouting Showcase, August 29 - 30, 2026. Fifty-Four teams, competing across three divisions in the 14u - 18u age classifications opened up our Fall schedule playing in a five game showcase style format. For the several college coaches in attendance, they were able to get quality looks at numerous uncommitted 27’ and 28’ graduation year class athletes, as well as having the opportunity to watch some of the quality younger athletes as they put their talent on display. Below are write-ups of some of our top performers over the weekend in the 14 & 16u age divisions.
14U DIVISION
Josie Moen (2031 Urbandale, IA) is an athletic OF for TN Mojo 2030 Evans. Working from the left side, Moen was nearly unstoppable while showing defenses her slapping abilities. With great barrel awareness and footwork, Moen utilized the bunt, soft slap and power slap to her advantage, moving the ball to all fields and then letting her speed take over. From the lead-off spot, Moen collected 10 hits, which included 2 doubles and a home run, while knocking in nine. She scored nine runs, swiped seven bases, struck out once and finished with an impressive .833 batting average. This young lady, with a high ceiling, has offensive tools that should continue to impress as she moves through age division play, making her a solid next level follow.
Jovie Evans (2030 Urbandale, IA) is a RHH for TN Mojo 2030 Evans. Setting up in an athletic stance, slightly wide, Evan’s utilizes a front foot heel lift to get weight transferred and for timing. When heel touches back down, without stride, Evan’s launches her swing showing a strong lower half, an aggressive attack angle and good extension that results in gap to gap power. On the weekend, Evans picked up nine hits that included three doubles and two home runs, to help her collect eight rbi’s. She scored six runs, stole three bases, drew one walk and did not record a strikeout, finishing the weekend hitting at a .643 clip, showing the ability to hit for power and average. Another athletic next level follow showing advanced skills at the plate.
Andi Edwards (2032 Bondurant, IA) is the third offensive top performer from a loaded TN Mojo 2030 Evans team. Hitting from the right side, Edwards sets up an open stance, sitting into her legs, utilizing a stride to gain separation and get to parallel. Edwards shows a strong lower half while firing the hips and good extension through contact. Keeping her hands inside the ball, she drove pitchers offerings gap to gap with authority in picking up eight hits that included a double and triple, to assist her in picking up 10 rbi’s and scoring five runs. Showing discipline at the plate, Edwards worked pitchers for two walks and did not record a strikeout, to finish with a .800 batting average for her effort. Being a 2032, this young lady, with continued work on her skill set as she matures and gains strength, will continue to excel as she works through age division play and beyond.
Brooklyn Harken (2031 West Des Moines, IA) is a RHP for Iowa Magic Fastpitch. Harken shows hitters a smooth, repeatable, motion and delivery while staying consistently around the plate. Working the ball throughout the zone with a four pitch mix of fastball, change-up, drop and curve, Harken kept hitters off-balance with location and disrupted their timing with change of speed. While topping out at 60 mph, Harken worked 10 innings, striking out 16 while scattering seven hits, giving up one walk and not allowing an earned run. For her effort in the circle, Harken finished with a stellar 0.00 ERA and 0.80 WHIP on the weekend. With continued work on her craft, this young lady is a 2031 that you will want to keep on your radar as she continues to mature and gain strength over the next several seasons.
Zoey Zajicek (2032 Waverly, IA) is a RHP for Eastern Iowa Valkyries, who worked hitters over with a four pitch bag of fastball, change-up, rise and drop. While regularly sitting 55-58 mph, Zajicek did touch 60 mph, during her 10 innings in the circle. Working the zone vertically with her rise and drop, Zajicek showed horizontal movement with an off-speed pitch that displayed aggressive glove side run that helped her collect 17 strikeouts, while giving up eight hits, four walks and four earned runs finishing the weekend with a 2.80 ERA and 1.20 WHIP. Zajicek with continued work on her skill set, has time to mature as a pitcher, gaining strength that could assist her with increased velocity and spin rate, making her a good next level follow in the 2032 grad class.
Jeselle Jefferson (2030 Des Moines, IA) is a RHP for Iowa Aries14u National. Showing hitters a smooth and deliberate motion, with an aggressive arm swing and good use of her lower half in the drive phase, at times dominated hitters. Topping out at 60 mph and keeping it simple with a four pitch mix of fastball, change-up, rise and curve Jefferson struck out an impressive 19 batters in her 8.2 innings of work. Hitters struggled to catch up with her rise, and she changed speed just enough to keep batters off-balance. Jefferson, on the weekend, gave up seven hits, five free passes, without allowing an earned run, finishing with a 0.00 ERA and 1.38 WHIP. There is a lot to like about this young lady, with good upside as she continues to develop as a pitcher.
Aubree Cardiel (2030 Carroll, IA), a RHP for Alliance Select 14u Benge, was one of only two pitchers available this weekend due to an injury to a teammate. Cardiel, working a five pitch mix of fastball, change-up, rise, drop and curve, showed a smooth, consistent motion and delivery. Cardiel, topping out at 55 mph, disrupted hitters' timing with her change-up and drop, both pitches resulting in several weak ground balls coming off the end of the bat. In her 15.2 innings of work, Cardiel struck out 13, gave up 15 hits, four walks and four earned runs to finish with a 1.79 ERA and 1.21 WHIP. As this young lady continues to develop as a pitcher, she will benefit with additional strength and the ability to spot her pitches where she wants them, working to stay off the middle of the plate.
Keira Flanagan (2030 Asbury, IA) is a RHP for Lady Expos 14U, and appears to be following in the path of other fine pitchers that have come out of the Expos organization. Working with a simple four pitch mix of fastball, change-up, rise and drop, while topping out at 58 mph, Flanagan was very effective in missing barrels, sitting down 17 batters via strikeout in only eight innings in the circle. Flanagan, consistently near the plate, was able to work the ball throughout the zone and effectively disrupt the hitters’ timing. She allowed nine hits, walked one and gave up two earned runs to finish with a 1.75 ERA and 1.25 WHIP.
16U DIVISION
Hadley Gentzler (2029 Clive, IA) is a RHH for Barracuda Aces 16u Gentzler, who was close to perfect at the plate, going 11 for 12 on the weekend. Gentzler sets up parallel, sitting slightly into her legs, and shows good use of her lower half, working her hands inside the ball, with good extension through contact to drive the ball to all fields. In her 11 hits, she picked up a double and two triples, knocking in three. Gentzler scored 11 times, swiped four bases, drew one walk, did not strike out, and recorded three sacrifices to finish with a very impressive .917 batting average for her effort. With discipline at the plate, an understanding of what she wants to do with each at bat, and the ability to work the ball to all fields, Gentzler already displays next level tools and mindset.
Anna Gudgel (2030 West Des Moines, IA) is another fine hitter for Barracuda Aces 16u Gentzler. Hitting from the right-side, Gudgel sets up athletically in the box, weight into legs, and generates separation and weight transfer with a lean into the back hip prior to launch. With a line drive approach, Gudgel showed middle to pull-side power, wearing out the left centerfield gap in collecting seven hits, which included two doubles, a triple and a home run, while knocking in a showcase leading 11 rbi’s. She scored four runs, drew three walks and struckout twice to finish with a .583 batting average. This young lady, with continued work on her skill set, while developing patience at the plate, could develop into a desirable high average/high power number hitter.
Hadlee Croy (2030 Hamilton, IL) is a RHH, middle infielder, for Iowa United 16U. Croy sets up with an open stance, sitting into her legs, utilizing a lean to get weight transferred and gain separation, before striding to get to parallel at launch. Croy works the ball to all fields, showing gap to gap power. Although only picking up five hits on the weekend, Croy made the most of it with three home runs, knocking in eight in the process. She scored four runs, stole two bases, drew two walks and struck out once, finishing with a .556 batting average.
Trinity Carlson (2029 Tama, IA) is a LHP for Iowa Aries 16u CE Fire Black. Carlson shows hitters a smooth, efficient motion and delivery, while working a simple fastball and change-up mix. To be clear, due to her varied grip on the ball, four seams or two seams, there are not many pitches Carlson delivers that are not showing glove or arm side run while topping out at 56 mph. In her 10 innings of work, Carlson, a pitch to contact pitcher, collected six strikeouts, which included a four strikeout, four inning perfect game on Sunday. She allowed five hits, one base on balls and one earned run to close out the weekend with a nice 0.70 ERA and 0.60 WHIP. This young lady is proof that movement, location and change of speed are keys to being a successful pitcher.
Evy Aldrich (2031 Waukee, IA) is a RHP for 16U NW Wolves who works with a five pitch bag of fastball, change-up, rise, drop and curve. Aldrich has a smooth motion and delivery, with a consistent arm swing that allows her to move the ball throughout the zone while throwing strikes with all her pitches. In her 13 innings of work, while topping out at 57 mph, Aldrich sat down a showcase leading 24 batters via strike out, with the rise seeming to be her swing and miss pitch. Aldrich, sometimes getting too much of the plate, gave up 15 hits, no walks and six earned runs to finish with a 3.23.ERA and 1.31 WHIP. This young lady has some nice tools and appears to have a good understanding of what she wants to do in the circle. To continue to be successful, she will need to work away from the middle of the plate, as she will be facing more experienced hitters as she moves up in age classification.
Ellianna Mason (2029 Des Moines, IA) of the Iowa Aries 16u CE Black, was one of our top pitching performers this weekend. Mason, working from the right-side, sat consistently in the mid to upper 50’s touching 59, with a smooth motion and delivery which is mechanically sound. On the weekend, Mason struck out 12 in eight innings of work, gave up six hits, two base on balls and two earned runs, finishing the showcase with a 1.75 ERA and 1.00 WHIP. Mason, although very effective in moving the ball throughout the zone, was not seen utilizing any significant change of speed in an attempt to upset the hitters' timing. This young lady, with the addition of this tool to her bag, to go along with her current skill set, could be even more dominant in the circle.
Orayana Gonzalez (2028 Burlington, IA) is a RHP for Iowa United 16U that shows hitters a consistent motion and delivery, with good legs in the drive phase to help her sit in the 59-61 mph range on a regular basis. With a five pitch mix of fastball, change-up, rise, drop and curve, Gonzalez worked nine innings, striking out 11, scattering 12 hits, giving up two walks and five earned runs, ending the weekend with a 3.89 ERA and 1.56 WHIP. Although not the numbers we are accustomed to seeing, this young lady, in her defense, was in the circle against the hottest hitting team of the weekend. I would expect Gonzalez to learn from that outing, make any necessary adjustments, and look forward to the challenge when facing off against quality hitters.
Paige McClintock (2029 Fairfax, IA) is a RHP for CR Blue Devils 16U National-Jensen. McClintock has matured as a pitcher, as we have watched her work up through age classification’s showing increased spin and velocity, topping out this weekend at 61 mph. Working hitters with a four pitch bag of fastball, change-up, rise and drop curve, McClintock gave her team 14 innings in the circle, striking out 13. She gave up 19 hits, walked an uncharacteristic eight, while allowing six earned runs to finish with a 3.00 ERA and 1.93 WHIP. Don’t sleep on this young lady. She will continue to work on her craft and will get the opportunity to play at the next level.
