David Horn, RHP, JSerra Catholic (2022)

Horn got the ball to open the entire event and although it wasn’t his sharpest of outings, he was plenty good enough in a complete game effort to let the offense work and earned an opening round win. Opening in the 89-92 range with the fastball, there was no change from the velocity we have seen this spring and it’s a good fastball from a quality standpoint. While he only showed one changeup in the mid-80s range, he did show off both the curveball and slider early on. The curveball is a bit of a softer pitch, more in the 74-77 range with slurve-like shape while the slider is likely the best graded pitch of the entire mix, throwing it in the 79-80 mph range with hard and late lateral bite. It’s a good physical body and he’s got a track record of turning in good performances like this so if the velocity trends up, he’s at least got the foundation of a starter at the next level with a full four-pitch mix.
