Chase Valentine, SS, Central Arizona

Valentine is considered one of the top prospects in all of junior college baseball and it is easy to see why when he takes the field. The Tennessee commit shows advanced athleticism on the infield and in the box. Valentine displays twitchy actions on the dirt leading to quality range in both directions. Soft, confident hands catch the ball consistently. The footwork and hands transfers smoothly into throws where a strong arm produces accurate throws across the diamond. At the plate, Valentine uses his athleticism to create good rhythm and momentum throughout swings. The swing shows good bat speed through the zone with quality extension out front. A mature approach allows for the entire field to be used. Sneaky strength combines with a lofted path to produce solid gap to gap power. Valentine will post a fair share of extra-base hits, although a majority of them will be doubles and triples. More home run power should come down the line as the frame continues to fill out and add more strength. An advanced run tool makes Valentine an issue on the base for opposing pitchers. It allows for extra bases to be taken and bags to be stolen fairly often. It’s a well-rounded profile that can contribute in a lot of ways.
