As National Signing Day and our 2021 Recruiting Rankings come to a close we look ahead a year to see how the Top 10 of next year’s class stack up right now. Below are the Top 10 Recruiting Classes for the Class of 2022.

1. Vanderbilt

Full 2022-23 Recruiting Class
Head Coach: Tim Corbin | Recruiting Coordinator: Mike Baxter

Top 5 Recruits:

Rk. Name POS. HT WT B-T High School Hometown ST
3 Andruw Jones OF 6-2 180 R-R Wesleyan Suwanee GA
6 Brandon Barriera LHP 6-1 166 L-L American Heritage Coconut Creek FL
14 Noah Schultz LHP 6-8 205 L-L Oswego East Aurora  IL
24 Sal Stewart 3B 6-3 215 R-R Westminster Christian Miami FL
35 Ryan Clifford OF 6-3 215 L-L Crossroads Flex Raleigh NC

Following a week where Vanderbilt locked up the No. 35 overall player in the 2022 class in Ryan Clifford, we look at the Commodores top recruiting class. Having the top recruiting class from Perfect Game every year since 2017 it is hard to argue the dominance that the Commodores bring to the recruitment trail. Year in and year out Head Coach Tim Corbin and staff go after the top talent across the country and seem to land the best players from coast to coast. Clifford’s commitment just bolstered a class that was already No. 1 even before yet another Top 100 commitment. Vandy now has eight Top 100 players according to the PG National Rankings including No. 3 player Andruw Jones and left-handers Brandon Barriera and Noah Schultz, each ranked inside the Top 15 Nationally. 14 players make up the prep class in 2022 for Vandy, nine position players and five pitchers. The focus seems to be on the offense in this class, but the top two committed left-handed pitchers in the nation have committed to the Commodores so it is a really balanced overall class. As mentioned, Vandy never hesitates from traveling wherever the talent takes them and this class is no different with 10 different states represented in their commitments and just two in-state products in lefty Joseph King and catcher Logan Poteet

2. Florida State

Full 2022-23 Recruiting Class
Head Coach: Mike Martin Jr. | Recruiting Coordinator: Mike Metcalf

Top 5 Recruits:

Rk. Name POS. HT WT B-T High School Hometown ST
56 Nicolas Perez SS 6-0 165 R-R BYOU Academy Isabela PR
72 Jordan Taylor OF 6-2 190 R-R St. John's Country Day Jacksonville FL
79 Jamie Arnold LHP 6-2 165 L-L Tampa Jesuit Tampa FL
90 Ryan Denison RHP 6-4 215 R-R Tampa Jesuit Wesley Chapel FL
93  Davion Hickson RHP 6-4 190 R-R IMG Academy Bradenton  FL

Florida State’s No. 6 overall class in 2021 is not to be outdone by this crop in 2022, but at No. 2 overall about a year out from signing day, this group may out do the 2021 bunch. Five players make up the Top 100 noted in the grouping above headlined by Puerto Rican shortstop Nicolas Perez. All of the FSU’s recruits are ranked inside the Top 500 of the Perfect Game National rankings and are put together by a balance of seven pitchers and eight position players. The top arm for the Noles in the class is Tampa native Jamie Arnold who has seen his fastball top out at 91 mph for national powerhouse Tampa Jesuit and the FTB/SF Giants Scout Team. A pair of tall right-handers follow Arnold in the rankings with Arnold’s high school teammate Ryan Denison and an IMG Academy product in Davion Hickson. The pitching staff in this class is certainly of note as all seven arms are ranked inside the Top 300 Nationally. With a pair of highly touted infielders in Perez and Ben Barrett, an outfielder in Jordan Taylor and one of the top defensive catchers in the class in Santiago Ordonez, this is sure to be one of the best classes the Noles have put together in several years.

3. Virginia

Full 2022-23 Recruiting Class

Head Coach: Brian O’Connor | Recruiting Coordinator: Kevin McMullan

Top 5 Recruits:

Rk. Name POS. HT WT B-T High School Hometown ST
59 Nathan Fink OF 6-4 186 R-R The Miller School of Albemarrle Charlottesville VA
63 Jack O'Connor RHP 6-5 220 R-R Bishop O'Connell Arlington VA
65 Ethan Anderson C 6-2 210 S-R Frank W. Cox Virginia Beach VA
70 Bradley Hodges LHP 6-1 180 L-L St. John's Country Day Fleming Island FL
87  Kevin Jaxel RHP 6-4 195 R-R Don Bosco Prep Congers  NY

Virginia has hit the recruiting trail very hard for the 2022 class turning around a class that ranks at No. 18 overall in 2021. The Cavaliers tend to get started with their recruiting at the 14U level and the 2022 is a strong indicator as to how that can be very effective. Ethan Anderson, a catcher within the state, was the first player in the 2022 class to commit to a college program when he committed to UVA back in 2018. Brian O’Connor and staff have evenly filled up the class with both pitching and offense. Nathan Fink is the top recruit for the Cavaliers. An outfielder and local product from Charlottesville, Virginia. Fink was a member of the 2018 14U Select Festival along with Anderson. The top arm in the class is right-hander Jack O’Connor who has done nothing but perform on the big stage for multiple years now. The right-hander pitched in 25 2/3 innings for both the Tri State Arsenal and Stars Baseball this year striking out 43 hitters to just six walks, not to mention a low-90s fastball and a pair of good breaking balls. Virginia’s class in 2022 comes in at No. 3 overall and with all 13 recruits ranked inside the Top 450 Nationally, it is hard to argue with that.

4. Florida

Full 2022-23 Recruiting Class
Head Coach: Kevin O’Sullivan | Recruiting Coordinator: Craig Bell

Top 5 Recruits:

Rk. Name POS. HT WT B-T High School Hometown ST
23 Xavier Isaac 1B 6-4 240 L-L East Forsyth Kernersville NC
25 Luke Heyman C 6-3 202 R-R Lake Brantley Longwood FL
58 Yoel Tejeda Jr 1B 6-6 205 S-R North Broward Prep Davie FL
77 Sullivan Brackin RRHRP 6-5 210 L-R The Bolles Jacksonville FL
83 Blaydon Plain 1B 6-5 190 L-R IMG Academy Greenville FL

Getting a big commitment out of a top 25 player in Xavier Isaac is always good for recruiting. That is what Head Coach Kevin O’Sullivan and staff got in early October as Isaac announced his commitment to the Gators. Now the top recruit for the Gators, that jumped them into the fourth slot in the PG College Recruit Rankings. Offense is definitely on the mind of the staff for the Gators as the top three players they have committed all swing the bat at a very high level. Isaac is one of the most feared hitters in the country followed by catcher Luke Heyman and first baseman Yoel Tejeda Jr, who has some two-way projection left as well. Sullivan Brackin is the top arm on the list as the 6-foot-5, 210 pound right-hander can run his fastball into the low-90s with a good breaking ball for strikes too. Nine of the 12 recruits for the Gators hail from the state of Florida. Isaac is from North Carolina and joins left-hander Philip Abner as a big recruit that the Gators have been able to pull from that state. A pair of players ranked in the 200s of the PG National Rankings in Xavier Perez of Texas and Cade Fisher of Georgia make up the other out-of-state commits.

5. Louisiana State

Full 2022-23 Recruiting Class

Head Coach: Paul Mainieri | Recruiting Coordinator: Nolan Cain

Top 5 Recruits:

Rk. Name POS. HT WT B-T High School Hometown ST
17 Paxton Kling OF 6-2 185 R-R Central Roaring Springs PA
20 Jared Jones C 6-4 230 R-R Walton Marietta  GA
22 Tucker Toman 3B 6-1 185 S-R Hammond Columbia SC
37  Jace LaViolette OF 6-5 225 L-L Obra D. Tompkins Katy TX
73 Ty Federici LHP 6-1 220 R-L Lake-Lehman Dallas PA

Just behind Florida with one less Top 100 player are the Tigers of LSU. Thirteen commitments make up LSU 2022 class and it seems to be year in and year out that LSU is near the top of the recruiting ranks. 2022 is no different with a handful of immensely talented players especially on offense. Outfielders Paxton Kling and Jace LaViolette as well as catcher Jared Jones and third baseman Tucker Toman are about as elite a group of offensive-minded recruits as you are going to find in any 2022 class. Each has their highly touted skillset with Jones and Toman’s massive power, Kling’s 5-tool potential and LaViolette’s sky high ceiling. The Tigers always reload with pitching especially outside the Louisiana state lines. This year is pretty similar going north of the Mason Dixon line for a pair of lefties in Ty Federici and Michael Kennedy. The rest of the arms are Griffin Herring and Wyatt Wiatrek of Texas, Aiden Moffett from Mississippi and the lone in-state arm in Dwayne Primeaux. The No. 5 class in the country definitely has the offensive side of the ball in mind and with as many top hitting threats as the Tigers have, this class could be pretty special.

6. Louisville

Full 2022-23 Recruiting Class

Head Coach: Dan McDonnell |Recruiting Coordinator: Eric Snider

Top 5 Recruits:

Rk. Name POS. HT WT B-T High School Hometown ST
13 Gavin Kilen SS 5-11 175 L-R Milton Milton WI
29 Jacob Miller RHP 6-1 175 R-R Liberty Union Baltimore OH
49 Tucker Biven SS 6-2 185 R-R New Albany Senior New Albany IN
55 Rocko Brzezniak 3B 6-3 210 R-R St. John Vianney Matawan NJ
86 Michael Lippe OF 6-2 205 R-R Whitefish Bay Whitefish Bay WI

Louisville always seems to find the best talent in the state of Wisconsin from year to year and their 2022 class is no different. Two of their top five recruits come out of Wisconsin in their No. 1 recruit Gavin Kilen and outfielder Michael Lippe but really, the entire Midwest seems to be a hot bed for future Cardinals. From Wisconsin to Ohio, Indiana and Illinois, Head Coach Dan McDonnell and staff always do a great job of recruiting outside the state of Kentucky. In fact, of Louisville’s 13 commits, only one comes from the state of Kentucky and that is left-hander Justin West of Paducah Tilghman High School. Recruiting Coordinator Eric Snyder and Pitching Coach Roger Williams are a couple of the best in the business at what they do in recruiting and developing players. This class has a loaded amount of offense upside at the top in Kilen, Lippe, Tucker Biven, Rocko Brzezniak and Logan Wagner. Jacob Miller, a right-hander out of Baltimore, Ohio, is the top arm committed in the class as his low-90s fastball and already plus curveball make him a Top 30 player in the nation.

7. Auburn

Full 2022-23 Recruiting Class

Head Coach: Butch Thompson | Recruiting Coordinator: Karl Nonemaker

Top 5 Recruits:

Rk. Name POS. HT WT B-T High School Hometown ST
39 Zach Crotchfelt LHP 6-3 205 L-L Jackson Memorial Jackson NJ
48 Hayden Murphy SS 6-3 180  R-R Tiftarea Academy Chula GA
138 Drew Nelson LHP 6-0 190 L-L Pike Liberal Arts Troy AL
145 Gavin Miller 3B 6-0 185 R-R West Allegheny Oakdale PA
149 Landon Russell SS 6-0 175 R-R Russell County Phenix City AL

This is the first class the Auburn Tigers have put inside the top ten of the PG College Recruit Rankings since 2019 and the talent in the class is no joke. Pulling primarily within the state of Alabama, eight of the names on the Tigers recruiting list are in-state products. Butch Thompson and company have not shied away from traveling north to find some premier talent and they have certainly done so with this group. Zach Crotchfelt is a left-hander who throws some of the easiest low-90s velocity that you are going to find and is also their top recruit coming from the state of New Jersey. Gavin Miller, a third baseman with projectable tools on both defense and offense, is from Pennsylvania and Ike Irish, an ultra-physical catcher, from Michigan has the makings of a monster offensive profile with a sound defensive skillset too. Seven pitchers and eight hitters from eight different states make up the 2022 class for Auburn. As of right now, a year out from signing day, this class is the best class, rankings-wise, that the Tigers have put together since PG starting ranking recruiting classes in 2011. Tigers fans should be excited about what is to come for the 2022 crop.

8. Arizona

Full 2022-23 Recruiting Class

Head Coach: Jay Johnson | Recruiting Coordinator: Dave Lawn

Top 5 Recruits:

Rk. Name POS. HT WT B-T High School Hometown ST
44 Mikey Romero SS 6-0 170 L-R Orange Lutheran Menifee CA
52 Mason Neville OF 6-3 190 L-L Palo Verde Las Vegas NV
84 Ryan Ward 3B 6-2 170 L-R Coronado Coronado CA
97 Nicolas Bronzini LHP 6-3 235 L-L California San Roman  CA
112 Justin Crawford OF 6-3 175 L-R Bishop Gorman Las Vegas NV
The lone Pac-12 team in the Top 10 of 2022 classes are the Arizona Wildcats. Four Top 100 players and 15 recruits make up the class headlined by San Diego Show shortstop Mikey Romero. The top three commitments for the Wildcats are hitters in Romero, Mason Neville and Ryan Ward. Neville has an elite level toolset as a 6.33 runner, above average arm in the outfield and already a professional 6-foot-3, 190 pound build. Ward was a member of the 2018 14U Select Festival who projects so well at the plate as he continues to unlock extra strength. Top arm Nicolas Bronzini, a left-hander out of NorCal, can reach 90 mph with his fastball from a tough angle and projects for plenty more. The Wildcats have cleaned up out west both in-state and going into California and Nevada as they have so effectively in the past. Seven California commits, five in-state commits, two players from Nevada and one recruit in Maddox Mihalakis from Minnesota. Head Coach Jay Johnson’s 2022 class is another talented one as the No. 8 class in the country.

9. Miami

Full 2022-23 Recruiting Class

Head Coach: Gino DiMare | Recruiting Coordinator: Norberto Lopez

Top 5 Recruits:

Rk. Name POS. HT WT B-T High School Hometown ST
1 Elijah Green OF 6-3 215 R-R IMG Academy Windermere FL
43 Alvin Keels SS 6-0 180 R-R Maury Portsmouth VA
105 Blake Cyr SS 6-0 175 R-RR Windermere Windermere FL
159 Sebastian Perez RHP 6-3 205 S-R West Broward Southwest Ranches FL
167 Ray Bermudez OF 6-2 165 L-R American Heritage Hollywood FL
Miami boasts the No. 1 player in the country in their 2022 class in outfielder Elijah Green from Windermere, Florida. Green did everything this summer to solidify that ranking and has this class inside of the top 10. Alvin Keels, a shortstop, is another top player in the Hurricane's class. Both Green and Keels have standout tools with power potential in their right-handed swings. For the Canes in 2022 the pitching that J.D. Arteaga and Norberto Lopez put together in this class is very intriguing. All seven of the arms committed to the Canes in this prep class have projectable stuff headlined by Sebastian Perez who has seen his fastball tick up to 94 mph with life and a promising breaking ball. Miami always does a great job of recruiting within the state of Florida. This class testifies to that as all but one recruit are in-state products. Keels is the lone out-of-state commitment as the shortstop comes from Portsmouth, Virginia and is coming off a huge showing at the Underclass World Championships in Fort Myers, Florida. Fifteen commits, a pair of Top 100 talents in Green and Keels make this group for Head Coach Gino DiMare a really talented one.

10. Arkansas

Full 2022-23 Recruiting Class

Head Coach: Dave Van Horn | Recruiting Coordinator: Nate Thompson

Top 5 Recruits

Rk. Name POS. HT WT B-T High School Hometown ST
5 Jayson Jones SS 6-2 190 R-R Braswell Savannah  TX
64 Cooper Dossett OF 5-11 180 R-Rr Har-Ber Fayetteville AR
66 Easton Swofford SS 5-10 155 L-R South Side Bee Branch Bee Branch AR
117 Parker Coil LHP 6-2 185 R-L Edmond Memorial Jones OK
122 Colton Sims 3B 6-0 155 L-R Russellville Russellville AR

Arkansas seems to reload every single year, plain and simple. Each of the last three years the Razorbacks have had classes inside the Top 5 Nationally so this year, at ten, is actually down for the Hogs. Nonetheless, the talent that Arkansas continues to pull from inside the state and across the country is always very impressive. The group in 2022 is topped by infielder Jayson Jones who impacts the baseball with outstanding power potential at the plate and a great overall offensive profile. Jones is ranked as the No. 5 player in the country hailing from Texas followed by a pair of in-state commits in outfielder Cooper Dossett and left-handed hitting shortstop Easton Swofford. Underclass All-American Parker Coil is the top arm committed to the Razorbacks coming in at No. 117 overall. With 15 commitments (eight hitters and seven pitchers) making up the Hogs’ 2022 class, don't be surprised if this crop climbs up these rankings over the course of the next year as the Razorbacks always seem to have one of the best classes in the country year in and year out.
