It was a short look, and by short look I mean just ten pitches, but righthander Andrew Daniels (2023, Forney, Texas) impressed none the less with his arm speed and overall raw arm strength. Checking in at No. 25 in the class of 2023 rankings, Daniels recorded two quick outs via strikeout showing a long but quick arm action through the back from which his fastball took off through the zone and got on hitters quickly. He made a brief appearance earlier in the tournament where he was up to 88 mph and while he didn’t quite get there in this look, he did throw a few sliders that have made promising progress. The starting shortstop for the Mad Mavericks, Caden Shanks (2024, Cookeville, Tenn.) took the ball and got the start on the mound Wednesday morning and the long and lanky 6-1, 145 pound Shanks certainly opened some eyes. Shanks has a deliberate tempo on the mound with a deeper gather on his backside over the rubber, and though he doesn’t quite yet fully utilize his lower half, he does a nice job of remaining short and quick through the back with his arm stroke.
