Program Thoughts
“When I think back on the program, it was the 2014 class that paved the road for the future Burn players. They created a culture and a style of play that is still embedded in the current Burn players. We talk about the history of our program a lot and we want our current players to leave their mark on the program the same way our alumni have. The entire process that was laid out by the 2014 group led to the expectations of the back-to-back WWBA Championship teams. We have been truly blessed with a lot of high character young men that are also extremely competitive and talented baseball players.” -Mark Guthrie

2019 Scouting Highlight
“This is an easy one. During the 2019 WWBA final 4, within about an hour of each other, The Burn stars stood out. One of the most intense games of the entire event, a semifinal matchup, that went to extra-innings. The Burn leadoff hitter, Vince Smith hit a walk-off home run to send the Burn the finals for a chance of a rare back-to-back title shot.  About an hour and a half later, the Burn found themselves down quickly after a leadoff home run in the championship game.  In the bottom of the first, Mac Guscette, a 2019 Perfect Game All-American, settled the nerves of his Burn teammates by hitting a wall banging RBI double that set the stage for an 11-2 final score. Guscette would go on to be named the tournament MVP. The victory stamped an incredible 8-year run by the Burn program as they became one of only two organization to ever win the WWBA World Championship in back-to-back years. It was a total organization effort with prospects all over the field.” -Jered Goodwin

What we are looking forward to scouting during the 2020 Summer
“A line up that will include Michael Robertson and Tommy White will be a must watch for the entire scouting community. Big hitting, Tayden Hall, will be closely monitored to see how his development defensively has come, as the bat is not a question. Tyler Dietz got big time buzz in the state during the early high school season. The hard throwing righthanded pitcher has a starters profile and should be evaluated closely as he throws against some of the top lineups in the country. The 2022 group looks fast and athletic offensively and also features some projectable arms that already show polish and toughness. There will be no layoff for the Burn as they continue to put out some of the most well-known winners on the showcase circuit. They are always fun to watch play with how hard they play the game.”

Historical Scouting Notes
“On a Friday night in Jupiter in October of 2014, the Burn ran out Austin Bergner, to the bump.  Bergner was an underclassman at the event and had a lot of early clout surrounding him. The stage was set under the lights with only one quad playing games and the entire scouting community in attendance.  The young righthander was phenomenal that day, sitting 93-95 and electrified the entire crowd. The Burn pitching staff at that event included Michael Byrne, Doug Nikhazy, Tyler Dyson, Jordan Butler, and Nick Kennedy. The lineup included heavy hitting Rylan Thomas and do-it-all Deacon Liput. I remember leaving that night, talking with some members of the travel ball world, as we all noted how many players we would be watching play the game for years to come. The pure talent on the roster is still talked about and is now just another building block for one of the most decorated programs in recent history.”

Program History
Most of the Burn coaches attended youth camps run by Guthrie and Faulker while they played professionally. Those same coaches played for Faulkner at Venice high school.  Jose Cruz, Roy Halladay, and Toby Hall have all coached for the Florida Burn. The University of Florida 2017 National Championship team had six Burn players on the roster. (Michael Rivera, Deacon Liput, Dalton Guthrie, Michael Byrne, Tyler Dyson, and Nick Long). The 2018 University of Florida roster had eleven Burn players on the roster that captured the No. 1 seed and made it to Omaha. The Florida Burn blueprint was based off the same “playbook” that legendary coach, Skip Bertman, implemented at Louisiana State University. Both Guthrie and Faulker played for Bertman at LSU.
