Andrew Vaughn, California
Last year’s Golden Spikes Award winner, Vaughn is a big, physical throwback slugger. He has a presence in the batter’s box and doesn’t get cheated at the plate. Willing to take a walk, Vaughn hunts mistakes and fastballs early in the count and has the hand-eye coordination and game-changing bat speed to make consistent, hard contact.

In Cal’s second game of their series against UCLA, he drove a first-pitch hanging breaking ball into the cold Los Angeles air for a no-doubt home run to left-center field. With an outstanding track record of hitting, and the 2019 MLB Draft less than two months away, there were multiple big league GMs in to see him. Overall he’s a complete hitter and it’s hard to find any part of his offensive game not to like. His defense on the other hand will get nitpicked. He took some ground balls at third base but his usual position at first is his best fit and the bat profiles anywhere.
