The 2019 college baseball season is back, and while there weren't too many surprises the first weekend of the season there were still statements made across the country. Overall the teams that entered the year in the Top 25 went 65-11 over the first weekend and as a result you won't see too many changes to the rankings below.

One obvious change is a two-spot jump for UConn, a team that beat the previously eighth-ranked Louisville Cardinals two games to one in their three-game series in Lakeland, Fla. Christian Fedko hit a grand slam in the third inning on Sunday that gave the Huskies all of the runs they would need to capture the series, and they did so without the services of their staff ace, Mason Feole. As a result UConn switches spots with Oklahoma State while Louisville drops three spots in the rankings.

Florida, who swept Long Beach State, and East Carolina move up as a result of Louisville dropping. Ole Miss stays put at No. 10 since their rubber match against Wright State was canceled due to weather.

In the desert No. 2 Oregon State, No. 3 Vanderbilt and No. 7 Stanford all made loud statements at three different tournaments. The Beavers' bats were a little slow to wake up in their opening game against New Mexico but they scored three runs in the seventh and three more in the ninth to come back and walk off the Lobos. They went on to beat Gonzaga and Minnesota by a combined score of 22-4.

Vandy on the other hand had no troubles scoring early, taking down Virginia 15-9 and Cal State Fullerton 14-9 before they were bested by TCU, 10-2. The Horned Frogs enacted a little bit of revenge on Vanderbilt as it was their loss to the Commodores at the Dodgertown Classic last March that started a rather nasty downward spiral for the Horned Frogs as they lost 13 of their next 23 games.

Vanderbilt, TCU and Fullerton each went 2-1 at the MLB4 tournament with Virginia losing all three games they played.

In nearby Tempe at the Angels College Classic Stanford looked very good beating Ball State, Wichita State and Pepperdine with their usual successful recipe of pitching and defense.

Catch up with all of the action in the College Notebook features posted over the weekend (Feb. 15-17) as linked above with many more reports, on both players and teams, to be released as the week progresses.

Also considered: Texas A&M, Cal State Fullerton, Illinois, Duke, Southern Miss.
