TEAM USA GETS THE RINGS

FT MYERSPerfect Game USA blasted Westminster Academy 12-0 in the championship game to go undefeated in the 20 team World Tournament.  The tournament was loaded with many of the top teams in the nation and many of the top prospects.  Tournament MVP Jasha Balcom (GA) led off the championship game with a line drive home run over the right field fence at the Boston Red Sox Stadium in Ft. Myers.  Balcom went 12 for 19 with 2 home runs in the tourney.  He also made several outstanding plays in centerfield.  PG USA’s pitching staff led by Senior Michael Rivera (PR) and some of the nation's top underclassmen including Ryan Dixon (FL), Kris Honel (IL) and John Killalea (FL) was perhaps the difference.    Underclassmen Mike Jensen (IA) threw a shutout in the championship game.  Perfect Game USA's roster included five players from Seminole HS in Florida: John Riggelman, TJ Large, Bobby Wilson, Ryan Dixon, and John Killalea.  Seminole will be a team to watch in national polls.

Perhaps the key game for PG USA was a late Saturday meeting with the Bayside Yankees.  USA scratched out a 5-4 victory in what could have been one of the best games of the tourney.  The Yankees lost a heart breaker despite the great pitching of seniors David Rodriguez who topped out at 91,  Gary Kaible who hit 90 and Junior Tim Layden who consistently pitched at 91-92 for 3 innings.  Junior Kris Honel went 5 innings for USA, he impressed the scouts with his breaking ball, command of the strike zone and especially his live fastball that was clocked in the 90 to 93 range.  Super Junior Ryan Dixon came in to close the game, striking out the last hitter on three pitches; the first pitch 92, second pitch 93, and last pitch 95, game over!

A great game was played in front of the night owls between PG Iowa and Edwards Sluggers of Miami.  The game started at 12:30 AM Sunday morning.  Edwards won a hard fought battle 5-4.  Once again the pitching stood out especially Iowa starter Joel Hanrahan who was 90 to 94 for five innings.  Hanrahan hit 94 in every inning and thirteen times total.  Iowa which finished fourth in the tournament and was led at the plate by centerfielder Chris Tritle who went 11 for 20 and was 9 for 9 in stolen bases.  Miami's Edward's Sluggers roster contained the most draft prospects of any team in the tournament, led by probable 1st rounder David Espinosa.

The tournament had many close games and late inning drama.  One of the most exciting was Puerto Rico's last inning comeback victory over Canada in the game that decided which team went on to the final four.  Royals crosschecker Earl Winn called the game the loudest and most exciting he has ever seen with such a small crowd.  It sounded like thousands of fans in the stands, when Puerto Rico scored their fourth and winning run to overcome a 5 to 2 Canada lead going into the bottom of the last inning.  Puerto Rico's fans were literally dancing in the aisles, celebrating the victory.  Earl Winn gets our vote for Most Valuable Scout at this tournament.  From beginning to end there he was taking it all in.
Friday's schedule was not bad, but Saturday's first game started at 8 AM and Miami nipped Iowa in Saturdays last game that actually ended at 3:30 AM Sunday with Earl saying "see you in a little bit."  Sunday's games started at 8 AM and Earl was at all of it including the late afternoon Championship Game.  There was plenty to see, especially on Saturday when nearly twenty pitchers touched 90 or better.
NOTEOur webmaster made a mistake in the story that was published last week on this site by adding the sentence "the above mentioned scout was no where to be seen."  It should have read "the above mentioned scout seemed to be everywhere."  We apologize for our error to our visitors and especially to the hardest working scout at the event, Earl Winn.

Perfect Game Team USA has won both Fall World Titles.  USA also went unbeaten in last year's championship held in San Antonio, Texas.  The 1998 champs were led by Waylon Byers (IA), Cody Ross and Brian Hall (NM), Beau Kemp (OK), and Jesse Floyd (TX).

TBT Phillies Scout run rules for second straight MLK East Championship The 14U TBT Phillies Scout Team overtook A3 Academy Futures 14-6 in the final game to win their second straight 2026 MLK East Championship. Though the skies were blue and the sun was out in Fort Myers, Florida, the air was very chilly. The wind whipped through the palm trees as players, parents and friends piled into the 5-Plex Player Development Complex bundled up in blankets, hoodies and beanies.  The A3 Academy Futures were first up to bat - and the TBT Phillies struggled through the first frame. The first run came across on a balk; the second came soon after off a double from Gabriel Messing. “I was surprised that they scored right away off the jump,” Kingston George said, an outfielder for TBT Phillies Scout and this year’s MVP of the 14U East MLK championship. “We were kind of quiet...

They were dominant from start to finish, ending the year with a 35-2 record and bring back most of their offensive production and the offense will be headlined by a pair of seniors who had great springs a year ago in Drayton Mitchell and Wyatt Duke.
