College Player Database

During the season Perfect Game scouts will be traveling to some of the top series to watch the very best players in college baseball. Those observations, captured with both written notes and video, will be shared in the College Player Database as linked above, notes that can also be accessed on the players' individual PG profile pages. Throughout the season select reports will be shared in feature format to promote the players, the teams and college baseball as a whole.

Clay Fisher, SS, UC Santa Barbara

Fisher is coming off of an arm injury that sidelined him for the entire 2017 season but is enjoying a strong comeback season for the Gauchos. With a lean and wiry 6-foot-1, 185 pound frame, Fisher shows good range to both the back-hand side and up the middle at the shortstop position, where he excels. He consistent makes accurate throws from multiple arm angles with the ability to make throws on the move. Fisher’s arm strength appears to be back from injury, but that could ultimately determine if he’s able to stick at shortstop at the next level or will need to slide over to second base.

At the plate his hitting base is a little wide, starting his bat at his shoulder and incorporating a high leg kick to trigger his swing. Fisher mostly employs a line drive approach, working from one gap to the other, handling the bat well overall. He looks like a classic No. 2 hitter at the plate, with the ability to bunt, slash, hit behind runners and execute the hit and run while also showing occasional pull power. His foot speed is average to slightly above, giving him solid tools across the board.

Chris Lincoln, RHP, UC Santa Barbara

It’s hard not to be intrigued by Lincoln and his loose, athletic and still-projectable 6-foot-4, 190-pound frame. For as promising as he looks, he is still working to make the necessary adjustments to get his lower half more involved with his delivery, which could lead to a spike in velocity. Increased balance with his upper half at the top of his delivery combined with the drive component in the lower half could help achieve that. As it stands now, he throws his fastball in the 88-91 mph range, touching 92 with some run, but overall the pitch isn’t quite where it needs to be from a consistency standpoint.

That said, Lincoln is enjoying a strong season for the Gauchos. He’s one of UCSB’s leading hurlers with an ERA of 3.30. Only a sophomore, it will be interesting to see where he stands a year from now with further mechanical developments. He also throws a slurvy breaking ball in the 77-80 mph range that shows true slider shape when thrown more firmly, and he also shows good feel for a 79-81 mph changeup that has good fade and sink and is arguably his best offering.

Armani Smith, OF, UC Santa Barbara

Smith quickly passes the eye test with a physical and athletic 6-foot-3, 215-pound frame. A sophomore for UCSB, Smith is still trying to figure things out, but he has the obvious athleticism and tool-set to be a player to watch as he continues to develop. He has some pop in his righthanded swing, as evidenced by the five home runs he has hit this spring, but needs to continue to make adjustments to his swing and overall approach to truly maximize his offense potential.

Jason Willow, 3B, UC Santa Barbara

Willow, a promising freshman for UC Santa Barbara, looks at home at third base, with good lateral movements and more than enough arm strength for the position. He’s more physical now than he was in high school, at a listed 6-foot-2, 180-pounds with more room to add strength without losing his current flexibility. The power in his righthanded bat is his best tool, and while the numbers don’t show it so far this season (one home run in 39 games) he should be able to continue to tap into his power as he develops his offense game while becoming a middle-of-the-order threat for the Gauchos.

Blake Mann, OF, UC Santa Barbara

Mann is one of several young players in the UCSB lineup, a freshman who hasn’t put up the loudest numbers to this point of his college career but someone with the athleticism and tools to do so with continued development. Mann does have loud tools but has some trouble slowing down the game at times. He flashes speed, power and some raw arm strength, and you get the sense that he belongs at the next level and that his tools will carry him there.

Jarren Duran, 2b/OF, Long Beach

Duran is a high-waisted, athletic and energetic that his team seems to feed off of when things are going well. At 6-foot-2, 200-pounds, he offers a physical presence both in the batter’s box and on defense up the middle, calling second base his home. His tools could allow him to blossom at the next level, as he has more offensive potential than his .299/.381/.396 triple slash line may suggest.

Speed is Duran’s carry tool, with 15 swipes on the season in 17 attempts, showing good instincts on the basepaths with a quick first step. There’s some strength to his swing and it will be interesting to see how that swing translates to swinging a wood bat every day. There could be more power if he looked to impact the ball more to his pull side more frequently, as he currently looks to slash the ball to the gaps, using his speed to get on base and stretch extra bases. His arm strength likely limits him to second base, but he has the speed and instincts to play center field.

Clayton Andrews, LHP/OF, Long Beach State

Andrews earned Big West Pitcher of the Week honors for the second time in a row and the third time this season with an impressive showing against UC Santa Barbara. Andrews tossed seven scoreless innings, allowing just four base hits while striking out eight to earn the win and push his record to 5-7 on the year.

Andrews isn’t very big, listed at just 5-foot-6, 160-pounds, but he has shown very well on both sides of the ball this season, also hitting .300 while serving as Long Beach State’s leadoff man. He knows his game and executes at a high level, working with a fastball that sits at 88-90 mph but plays up due to his command. Andrews mixes in a 75-77 mph changeup with sink and fade that he has very good feel for, as well as a 73-75 mph curveball that he can manipulate and move around the zone. He changes speeds and mixes his pitches very well, creating uncomfortable at-bats and limiting hard contact against.

With a postseason run for the ages, the Oklahoma Sooners (43-23) took home the National Championship and naturally finish the 2026 season as our No. 1 team in the land.  It is the third national title for the Sooners, playing in their 12th CWS and making their fourth championship series appearance.  They add to previous national titles won in 1951 and 1994 and did it by taking the most difficult path of any team in this year’s tournament.  In the NCAA Tournament, Oklahoma took down national seeds, No. 2 Georgia Tech twice, No. 3 Georgia twice, No. 5 UNC twice, No. 7 Alabama and No. 15 Kansas twice.  This was the second time that head coach Skip Johnson has led the Sooners to the CWS Championship Series since 2022 and the first time he has taken home the crown.  The North Carolina Tarheels (54-14) was one win away from their first national title and finish...

Every successful team has talent, but the teams that make great summer ball runs often have something more. For Furia Prospects 2030, that difference has been a consistent commitment to playing for one another. The Texas-based team earned a 4-0 victory over East Cobb Astros 14U to secure their spot in the semifinals, combining dominant pitching with timely offense and another complete team performance. Christian Choe set the tone on the mound, allowing just two hits while striking out three over 4.2 innings before Blaine Jackson closed out the final four outs to preserve the shutout. At the plate, Brody Peterson paced the offense with a 2-for-3 performance and two RBI, while Mark De Leon and Jancarlos Nunez each drove in a run. Through these tournament games, Peterson has emerged as one of the team's most consistent hitters, batting .750 while continuing to deliver in key moments. Yet...

2026 MLB Draft Reports: 100-299 | 200-299 | 300-399 | 400-500 1. Roch Cholowsky, SS, UCLA R-R, 6-2/202, Chandler, AZ Previously Drafted: Never Drafted   Roch Cholowsky has consistently ranked at the top of the class throughout the cycle due to the safety and upside of the profile. Defensively, he is a plus defender at shortstop with soft hands, consistent actions, and quality range. Not only should he stick at the position long term, he should excel there at the next level. Offensively, there is a strong mix of hit and power potential from the right side of the plate. The swing is a bit unorthodox with a shorter finish, but Cholowsky consistently finds the barrel and drives the ball with authority to all fields. He has strong bat to ball skills with impact. He has walked more than stuck out during his collegiate career, giving him a high on-base ability. The run tool is the...

The fastball comes out of the hand easy and got up to 97 mph, working in the mid-90s throughout. He pairs it with a firm changeup at 89-90 with some fading depth to the arm side and also has good feel for a mid-80s slider with quality shape and missed bats with it deep in counts. It’s a power arm here with immense upside and pounded the zone at a 64% clip. A lot of boxes Cheatham checks off as a high school arm and should be a name we hear a...

2026 MLB Draft Reports: 200-299 | 300-399 | 400-500 100. Lucas Nawrocki, LHP/1B, Aledo HS L-L, 5-11/197, Aledo, TX College Commitment: LSU Lucas Nawrocki put together a monster year on both sides of the ball, although the profile may be suited better for the mound in pro ball. Nawrocki features a stocky frame that works down the mound into a low-slot release. The fastball sits in the mid-90’s with carry to the top of the zone. It can reach spin rates near 2700 rpm. The left-hander can spin a slider exceptionally well. The pitch sits in the mid-80’s with big sweeping action and spin rates over 3000 rpm. A firm upper-80's changeup rounds out the pitch mix. At the plate, Nawrocki can provide some thump from the left side of the plate.  For more on Nawrocki, read his high school notebook here.   101. Hudson Devaughan, RHP, Mooresville HS R-R, 6-4/195, Mooresville, IN College Commitment: Alabama Hudson Devaughan features a projectable frame at 6-foot-4, 195-pounds. The fastball works up to 96 mph with more to come. It is thrown on a downhill plane. A sharp curveball pairs well off of it and can miss bats. A cutter and changeup round out the pitch mix, but still need to be refined.  201. Cole Stokes, RHP, Florida State R-R, 6-6/230, Redondo Beach, CA Previously Drafted: Never Drafted Cole Stokes is an imposing 6-foot-6 arm with loud stuff too. The fastball works in the upper-90’s with sink. It is paired with a sweeper that can miss bats at a solid clip. Significant command issues will need to be addressed in order for the potential plus stuff to play more consistently.  For more on Stokes, read his college report...

The Winning Edge

Kinley Kitchens
Article Image
Gulf Coast Edge has continued to build momentum in championship play this week, advancing behind a combination of timely offense, strong pitching, and contributions throughout the lineup. After grinding out a 4-3 victory over Canes American 14U to open bracket play, Gulf Coast Edge followed with a dominant 13-1 playoff win against Knights Baseball 14U National to secure their spot in the tournament bracket. The team features nationally ranked talent throughout the roster, but its recent success has been fueled by players embracing their roles and finding ways to contribute in key moments. Two players who embody that balance are outfielder Brayden Nims and fellow outfielder Nolan Richardson. Nims has helped lead the charge offensively as Gulf Coast Edge has advanced through the bracket. One of the most highly regarded players in the country, ranked No. 9 overall nationally and the No. 4...
